- School of Seven Bells is pleased to announce the official video for the track 'I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)' originally by Joey Ramone. Throughout 2013, producer and guitarist Benjamin Curtis had been battling T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. Recording in its entirety on his laptop from his hospital bed in NYC, 'I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)' is Benjamin's final recording before passing on December 29, 2013.
Directors and long time friends of the group, Toby Halbrooks and Alan Del Rio Ortiz, created this visually stunning piece. Revolving around a cross-country road trip stopping in Indio and Joshua Tree, the video celebrates life while displaying its cyclical and inexplicable properties.
The track will be made available for purchase digitally on 6/24. Full video will premiere on 6/25. Stay tuned for more details and plans from School of Seven Bells.
I used to play this for my husband when he got cancer. Played it at his funeral too....
It's been almost 10 years and this still stuns me. The ending takes my breath away. Such a beautiful piece and utterly timeless and a beautiful celebration of Ben and their work. Miss them so much.
A tragic loss to music this band. Such a young and talented guy.
The sound that kicks in at 1-30 is immense. The whole song is just brilliant. What a band SoSB were.
I saw School of Seven Bells in maybe 2012 at the Echoplex in L.A. - already having great respect for them, they've always resonated with me - understatement..........shortly thereafter, I saw that Benjamin Curtis was sick and probably cried out to God in an instant, "Lord, heal him!" What an incredible soul and artist and my love is deeper and I am humbled beyond measure by Benjamin's parting gift. May we live in the spirit of all you've given us! I love you Benjamin Curtis!
Cant believe he's been gone nearly 10 years. I remember hearing he was sick so vividly as id loved their first 3 albums so much. Really glad i got to see them in 2010 in Melbourne. i have about 45 seconds on bad video from the gig but will cherish it as ben i s there
Who still loves this masterpiece in 2020??

Makes me a bit teary eyed.... Had the pleasure of meeting Benjamin once and talking guitars. Awww man....
Very special cover of this song. So typical with its SVIIB sound. I thank god for Alejandra and Claudia for making the world even more beautiful and I hope Benjamin is in heaven carrying on his angelic works.
Thank God I saw them live. I will never forget that experience. Alejandra is my spirit animal. It's like my soul speaks through her. I've never felt this way about music before.
The shot at the end of this video as the camera pulls away from her stood on her own breaks my heart every time. Love SSVIIB!
still listening. will never forget. RIP Benjamin Curtis
I miss this band so much. So happy to see this video. Beautiful version of Joey's classic song.
Holy hell, what a gut punch.
RIP Ben.
I hope we haven't heard the last of Ali's beautiful voice...
This is so sad but beautiful, please keep making music. Thank you.
This has made me so happy..It's the silver lining of a very dark cloud.
Alejandra again looks healthy after a terrible year for her with the loss of the sublime Benjamin Curtis. We can celebrate his music, life and the legacy he left us.
Thank you Benjamin,Alejandra and Claudia (on the first two albums).RIP Benjamin.
Beautiful, amazing and sublime is this track.
Moving last video between Ben and Alejandra...Ben the impetus, Alejandra who finishes it for them. Beautiful references to perseverance and intention for the future, the song is poignant in its celebration of life and death. I appreciate how Ben is woven throughout, as Alejandra moves through aspects of her grief (being alone, in touch with earth/sand, etc.), and ends with the final note of Ben pulling away forever...Alejandra left to carry the mission that was theirs. I wish the best for School of Seven Bells and hope that Alejandra sees fit to carry on its life-force. (Please come to New Orleans one day :) )
Beautiful song and video. I only discovered their music last year and have been hooked ever since. I am so deeply sorry for Benjamin's passing. He truly is a gifted and beautiful musician and Ali's voice is beautifully haunting as well as her sister on the first two albums. I do hope hear more music from them in the future.
This song and video are a great comfort for those going through grief and depression.
John Furman yup.
the deserts of the American southwest exist so that indie bands have a place to film music videos. Also, that was awesome.
Fitting tribute to Benjamin. You and your music will be missed a lot.
Making beautiful soundscapes right to the end. Respect, so much respect. Sleep well and thank you for all those wonderful places and moments in time that SOSB were the soundtrack to.
Thank you Ben, and thank you Allie. May you both continue filling the universe with beauty on both sides of the biggest wall.
Tahoe, Reno and outside Vegas? Damn this song and video make me appreciate living in Nevada even more that I already do, so beautiful. RIP Benjamin Curtis, you made some of the best moments of my life possible.
+Tucker Monticelli I suspect not. Much of the desert shots are ready recognizable to residents of Southern California's Antelope Valley, where I live. I've never seen Joshua trees around Reno (although I like the Reno/Carson City area very much, it is heartbreakingly beautiful up there and I am jealous you get to enjoy those views all the time). The large rock formation is Alpine Butte in an area of Palmdale called Lake Los Angeles. Windmill farm is in between Mojave and Tehachipi, shot from a side road near California Highway 14, including the areas with the very southernmost of the Sierra Nevadas, behind the windmills, probably shot in motion along U.S. Highway 395. Beach shots appear to be in either Ventura or Santa Barbara with Channel Islands in background, or somewhat less likely in Malibu with Palos Verdes in background. Streetscape appears to be from near Pico Boulevard, in Los Angeles' warehouse district just east of DTLA.
God bless you, Ben. Thank you for the music.
School of seven bells is no more. The video said it all. She won't write and no one can replace the writer.... I was just recently diagnosed with cancer.... My music will live through my family....
Wrong. She can write. She had her own Band before So7B. Many Songs of So7B were made by both
Rest in peace, Ben.
Rest in peace, Joey.
The drum beat is very New Order - "Blue Monday" :) love it
Off the scale brilliant
Haunting tune, beautifuly sung lyrics, makes me feel very sad & very happy at the same time.
This is just lovelly. I can't imagine how many thoughts and meanings are in this video. Thank you for your music. Bands like you make my life so much better. Keep going. We miss you.
How beautifully true, bringing out my tears and revealing how life can be so magnificent and so fragile.
Thank you for creating this music and sharing it with us.
This is an amazing cover of Joey's song. Unlike Joey's version, Benjamin's version seems to have a different perspective with Alejandra singing, as if she (and the rest of us) have to get up after being knocked down after losing him last year.
Joshua Tree is a special, spiritual place. And you are special, spiritual musicians. Thank you.
SVIIB forever...
Like all their beautiful music! Stunning.
I miss SSB SO MUCH.

Joey Ramone 🖤
I've been thinking about this video for weeks.

ces't la vie, as the French say.
Achingly Beautiful. I cannot wait until February.
Thank you for posting this... absolutely full of life and beauty and a testament to their musical brilliance. Would it be possible to fix the audio so that it's in stereo vs. mono? It's an especially big deal for their music ;) Thx a bunch.
This is SO alive & fresh. Absolutely exquisite. 😎 XOXO 😉
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this is better than Chumbawamba's version.
Hilarious!
I'm really glad this wasn't a cover version of Chumbawamba's Tubthumping!
Only just putting my sad down about all of this. Miss you. Looking forward to new album.
Beautiful.

Bittersweet but beautiful. #bendidwin

This band has not really evolved in their sound at all since their second album. I really liked the first album a lot. Everything else not so much.
Avoid hospitals at all costs, especially if you have cancer.
