X4 Foundations: 7.5 Beta 6 - Testing Baracuda torpedo bombers and Mako interceptors

- Hello everybody,
As part of my ongoing Shark tests, I try to do some fleet combat using 40 Mako interceptors and 40 Baracuda bombers, 2 ion gatling + 1 torpedo launcher.
Is it me or the loss rates are higher than usual, in 7.5?
Lost 5 Mako and 5 Baracuda. I think that having to deal with the capital as well increased the losses amoung the Mako interceptors, and slow fighters like Baracuda are just awful as bombers and as interceptors.
I will take the Raptor with 60 bomber Chimera - 4 thermal + 1 torpedo launcher and 40 interceptor Chimera - 4 thermal + 1 torpedo launcher, for a test in a similar scenario.
If I have a better survival rate with the Raptor, I will have to, once again, abandon solo Shark gameplay. Don't get me wrong, the Shark remain an excellent carrier, is just that I want to use it with boron fighters, and the choices on that front are very limited. The Raptor benefit greatly from its powerfull AA defence and from the fact that I can use interceptors and bombers with the same speed, and because of the loadout I use for my Chimeras, with Position Defence, I can field 100 interceptors or 100 bombers, in the same time, based on the targets type that enter PD area.

You proably don't care about requests... but, would you minding testing the Balaur on a future video? I think they are as good as the Chimeras, but way cheaper, they really dont get any attention. I really like using them, but, not as a purist, I usally slot those mortars and let it rain hahah.

I do take request from time to time...but, I don't use Balaurs because I can't stand the cockpit being below.
My tests tend to feature ships that I DO use, in an effort to find the best way to use them, I just take you guys away with me for the ride. 😋

I select a target, press F3, use the numeric keypads to move around.
Playing X4 with your video playing in another tab, I kept looking around in my game for the combat and the K...
Fun fact: I started posting X4 videos because I could not find good X4 footage featuring fleet combat on YT and was like...fine, I'll do it myself. 🤭
Does using 2 torpedo launchers instead of one speed up quickly they kill the K amd limit losses?
Yes, I have very good results with Eclipse with 2 bolt + 2 torpedo launchers.
Is just that I consider that I need at least 2 AA weapons for my bombers, to also be able to act like interceptors, that is why I can't use this loadout with boron fighters. 🙁
Why did you choose a defensive position instead of sending fighters and bombers to attack the K Xenon? Good video!
Because the slow Baracudas are helpless, so the Makos must distract the capital as well as engage escorts. And I prefer PD to "attack all targets in the area", because PD keep fighters in the area until I deactivate it, while with "attack all targets in the area", you can have ships leaving the area if for a moment there are no targets.
I would've expected gatlings to not be that good as the only anti-fighter weapon, given they do very low damage to hull... how come you prefer them? I would guess arc guns might be more effective. Also, yikes... that's a lot of losses on the initial attack run on the K
I love the visuals and sound effects of gatling type weapons, some spinning barrels would have been even better.🤓
