X4 Foundations: 7.5 Beta 6 - Some Irukandji bombers tests and a cautionary tale

- Hello everybody,
After my Shark launching and retrieving fighters tests, I wanted to take the Shark and friends on some combat tests, in particular anti capital ships tests.
My standard fighter complement for the Shark is 40 Mako interceptors and 40 torpedo Irukandji bombers.
About combat performance:
with the improvements for S bombers behavior vs capitals, they will try to fire torpedoes at a distance. That is good in theory, but now we get to the cautionary tale section...that also mean that if xenon K get too close to the carrier, either by travel drive or gate ambush, you must delay the launching of bombers, until you take the carrier at some distance from the capital threat. If not, your bombers will get too eager to launch torpedoes, so much so that they will blow themselfs up and other fighters in the vicinty, also damage the carrier. And I think this is true for all carriers, the Raptor, even those with launch tubes, I've seen the "arms" of the Colosssus being damaged that way.
So, before launching S bombers from a carrier, make sure you have some distance from the hostile capital(s).
some very strange things are happening with "pure" bombers as in bombers that have only torpedo launchers. Most of the bomber wing will not engage and try to land, also I get some orange failed orders "out of ammo" when ammo is full. Note: I realised the ones in the clip have 1 torpedo left, but I also seen the "orange fail" even when full ammo.
As such, I will replace the Irukandji bombers with Baracuda bombers, 2 AA guns + 1 torpedo launcher, to create my favorite type of bombers, ones that are also able to perform intercept role if need be.
I have rejected the use of the Baracuda before, because of its abysmal speed, so now I guess the Mako interceptors will have to run "interference", as in taking out escorts and also engaging capitals under Position Defence role, or attack turrets, if there are no more hostile escorts in the area.
Will see how that works, but what I know for certain is that my torpedo Irukandjis are no longer usable in the beta, that was also true in 7.1.
The next test will have bombers Baracudas in action, to see how they fare.
See you in the next one. :)
