This was crazy helpful! I have 1989 YJ and she won't pass smog and the smog shop mentioned the fuel lines and you said it again! I'm HOPEFUL now for sure! Thanks for sharing all your this!
Glad you got it all worked out. What a journey! I'm sure I'll be going through some of this myself this coming year, as I'm re-inheriting my 93" YJ from my Dad after eight years. It's basically been sitting in Southern Colorodo since 2014, so I'm very glad to see your process here as I know it will help me down the road to review this footage.
Cool beans, Good to hear she passed. Sorry it took so much getting to this point. Congratulations in all accounts, sensors probably due anyway. Fantastic seeing her run down the road. I know the feeling of getting a vehicle CA smog ready. I bought a 1990 Isuzu 4x4 P’up from Utah and had to pretty much go through what you just did ( sensors, exhaust manifold, cat, muffler…). You’re right total frustration. Looking forward to future polls and updates 👍🏻 GM 1 Ton linkage, 7 deg ream for knuckles. Passenger side may be a little over reamed. Did I glimpse back seat in there?
OMG!!! It’s about time you got back to your Jeep. I have been looking for the results each week. Nice job building the suspense during the video. I was sure you were going to say it didn’t pass again. Request more fabrication videos. Fortune you’re my hero! Oh also… how many different caps do you own?
Those exhaust manifolds are the Achilles heel of the YJ it seems. Interestingly the new one had those flex joint things. I've seen some people run "limiting straps" on their engine to keep the rotation to a minimum, might be a good idea for the ol YJ.
Man! This was the most helpful YT video series. I just got an 87 YJ and it’s failed 4 times… are you sure with the air/fuel mixture it might not just be a simplecarb adjustment? 😅 Or is yours fuel injected? I really would like to not have to get a new CAT!
Thanks for the reply! In your experience, could the air/fuel mixture potentially be solved by tweaking the Carb? My NOx was off the charts at 3000+ PPM. I also used the ATS 505 fuel treatment solution, I'm reading maybe the carbon deposits burning from the build up being flushed from the system could also be causing a higher than normal reading. Any advice would be super appreciated! Thanks for kicking ass. @@FortuneOffRoad
@elliotodea1484 if you are showing high nox you may have burned out your catalytic converter already. Once that happens it has to be replaced. Watch some videos on tuning that carb and that should help.
Yep. They are expensive. I spent about $1000 to get mine to pass. If I would have bought the cat right away it would have been $200 less. Covid made the prices go way up.
Are the samurais hard to get pass smog, or is it cuz yours is modified, just picked one up and am in the process of making it pass ca smog so it can be a daily too
It seems like a lot of them have a hard time passing smog. The problem is they are pre-emissions stuff so most of it is handled through the catalytic converter, which are expensive. If you get a new one you may pass but if you don't have your engine running perfectly you'll just burn up that new cat. I see them driving in the road. There is hope!

Good! I hope it helps out. It's can be disappointing during the process but it's a blast one you get it cruising down the street! 🤙🏻
Cool video. Very helpful. Thanks for all those tips.
Congratulations for passing! Your smog series got me subscribing to your channel 🤣
Great job!
Excellent thanks!

No worries! Thank you for getting the YJ to me. Yes! Picked up a rear seat, still working on that. 🤓

Yeah there were some delays in the Jeep maintenance. Fabrication video coming this Sunday! And yes, I have too many hats 🤠

Yeah...what he said 😜
I'm hoping this setup lasts for a few smog at least!
I would suggest maxis creepy crawlers for decent on road use in a 15in wheel
I was looking at those! Those are a pretty soft tire and the YJ will see a lot of street. Wondering how they will hold up. 🤔

Good to hear! Mine is the 4.0 so no carb. A cat will pass you but you need to find out what's wrong so you don't ruin that one too

Yah dude! Niiiiiiice!!!!
You actually have locking hubs on that front axle
Sure do!
Yep Going through it right now....new engine etc aaarrggg
Good luck man, it'll be worth it

I guess they used to sell crappy cats in the past that wouldn't last. This magnaflow cat has great reviews from Jeep guys 🤘🏻
Do you recall which result didn't pass? My yj didn't pass NOX over 25 mph.
In part 2 I go over all of the paperwork. I think it was NOX At both speeds

Hey question for you, what shop did you use for the Cat work?
A1 Smog in Woodland
do you have any info on your Catalytic Converter purchase?
It is the Flowmaster one
Actually it was a magna flow cat!
Hello
Easy way. To pass
Leave California!
True that!
