I was born and raised on this wonderful island. I'm not there now and haven't been for a few years but I'm itching to return soon. God bless the community!
@@todddunn945 I can see that, though the tourist is what helps then island flourish with its Park, Restaurants and Hotels. A while back some people wanted to either limit or straight up ban cruise ships, an idea I was vehemently against.
@@QuietRiot3991 Well Bar Harbor did pass significant limitations on cruise ship that effectively bans the big ships. That ban will take full effect in 2025. They would have put the ban into effect this year, but the town had already accepted money from most of the cruise lines before the final court case played out.
I am glad you liked the video. It is nice to have hot weather like yesterday and today. It is 60F today. I am doing well although yesterday was a bit of a down day because my little brother (71 years old) died Sunday night.
Thanks. Having grown up in Schoodic area, Many days were spent in BH in the Summer...I see it has grown quite a bit...Have not been back to Maine since my Dad passed 18 yrs ago...I will be back next summer.
However, I see the town all the time so the changes are incremental to me. After 20 years I imagine the changes are pretty striking. Thanks for watching and commenting.
You are welcome. Be prepared for parking fees ranging from $2 to $4 per hour for parking in Bar Harbor. Paid parking starts on May 15th. There will be no free parking in Bar Harbor except for where you are staying.
Maine in May. Locals are wearing down coats. It's a "nice day" except for a little bit of rain! And the winters! Ack! Love it here in Va.. Thanks for the video!
Yes, the ban is on ships with more than 1,000 passengers, which is most of the ships. It has been in court for over a year, but the town won the first round of court cases over the winter. Some businesses are the people suing the town because of potential lost business.

Boston guy, I've had the best times there in the 1980's, driving around otter cliffs at night, winding roads with Heavy fog one time, me and my gf were in MDMA at the time, it was dreamlike. Don't do drugs.
I would put that breakfast off until August since right now you will get frozen blueberries from last year. Blueberries are always better when they are freshly picked.

It is Bar Harbor. Downtown Bar Harbor is about 4 blocks long. When there are three cruise ships in it is absolutely packed with people. The cruise ship situation is an ongoing fight between the tourist business community and the actual town residents. I don't live there so it isn't my fight.

It is a nice place to live, but the increases in the number of tourists make summers a lot less pleasant.

It will be more crowded on Saturday. I shot my video on Monday afternoon and thee are always more people on the weekend. Have a good visit.

Locals were out in shirt sleeves. I left my coat in the car and got sweaty walking around. The people in down coats are tourists.
Thanks for the tour. Glad to be a new subscriber.
Welcome. I will be shooting video tours of the towns on Mount desert Island this summer along with lots of other stuff.
I will be there on Wednesday and Thursday. Looking forward to free parking!
You can drive up Cadillac Mountain too without a reservation.
@@todddunn945 oh right! I need to definitely do that!
Wait, BH passed a cruise ship ban? Whoa! Won't that greatly cut down on money that shops/restaurants will receive? I wonder how business owners feel?

Yes, it looked like Bar Harbor is open for the 2024 season. Except for the shore path.
Hopefully doesn't get to much more busy by the 23rd for my camping trip
It really picks up on the Memorial Day weekend so you should be OK until Friday afternoon.

The island definitely has some beautiful places.
Dunn? Your family originally from Eastport? Like in the late 2800’s early 100’s?
Nope, I am from the west coast. I am just another person from away although I have lived on MDI for 25.5 years.
While there have the blueberry pancakes at the Great Maine Breakfest then take in Acadia National Park.

So beautiful and peaceful when us pesky tourists aren’t around… lol
You can say that again 😁
With that being said. The family and I are going to be visiting OOB the beginning of June for the wife’s birthday.
When do the tourist start arriving ?
