It's good. Really good. The fact that I think the only song that surpasses it, Passacaglia, comes from the same series and composer says so much about the soundtrack to BSG. GOAT from start to finish.
Bear McCreary said in his writer’s blog that the instrumental is almost entirely original, but of course similar enough to be compatible with the tune to All Along the Watchtower. With that in mind, you can kind of see how this piece works: it doesn’t play its hand too early, so you can’t just immediately guess what song it is, but it’s also made to perfectly slot in with the melody when the lyrics come in, so you still get that feeling of everything suddenly making sense. At a stretch, you could even say the music has a perfectly Watchtower-shaped hole in it for most of the episode, so you can almost feel something familiar just beyond your perception, until ‘the scene’ happens and they let everything click into place.
@@notsomuchlurking9408 Agreed, this is my favorite version of the song and when I was trying to find it I was also disappointed the OST one was different.

"There are many here among us Who feel that life is but a joke" This verse is about hidden Cylons and as we know Cylons took life as a joke, as they could come alive through resurection ship.
That there are many versions of "Watchtower" is what was so smokin' dramatic about Bear's. The story was headed to this massive pivot point, and then his version snuck up slowly, and when it dawned on you that it was Watchtower, well, I jumped. Could not believe more drama could have been impacted in that scene.
This version rocks so hard. Such a fantastic arrangement and cover. Both the Cylons Intro and the Broadcast Version. These amaze me whenever I hear them. I prefer Jimi Hendrix's version to Bob Dylan's, even though both are good. But I'd pick Bear McCreary's version over both. (Sorry, Jimi and Bob.)
Not exactly the same as the episode but by far closest available that I've found. The phrase at the end loops once when the galaxy is zoomed out and back in, as exists in the album version oddly enough. Fortunately I can use this to make the right one :) Thanks!!
