I’m going to convert my gen to natural gas. I’ve got the carb on order from Amazon for $21. The biggest expense is the 24’ x 1/2” hose needed to get it away from the house , and the shutoff valve and fittings to put it all together…..that’s another $100. 😢. Wish me luck. Thanks for the excellent video.
I am a prepper and have 2 generators but they are both gasoline set up. Obviously not the best in a grid down situation. I store propane and sometimes power is off but Nat. gas is available so this is just what I need! I like your site content available as well. Subscribed now. Thanks so much for the good quality and informative video! Much appreciated! Revision....forget Ebay and spending just $30.00 or even $50.00 dollars unless you get REAL lucky. Will end up grossly overpaying as he mentioned instead. Oh well, I at least learned that it is possible and available. Thanks for that info anyways.

I absolutely love your presentation. I just installed my kit and I’m holding back from cutting the hose for this mod. There has to be a solution where we can make a mechanical connection. What a beast to try to start! But, I figured it out. I pressurized the line , purge the air, then shut off the regulator. It takes a few pulls to start it, it’ll run rough, then quickly open the regulator just a hair. It’ll then run nicely. The problem is is that it just takes a whisper of propane otherwise it floods immediately and pull as many times as you want you will not start.
Neil, You are correct about the whisper of propane to start sir! I did eventually go to a air fitting. Not the recommended or "legal" way to do it, but as long as I dont show it on camera... Like everything else I own mechanical tho, it requires a bit o finesse and understanding of its intricacies to make it work. Totally worth it tho! Merry Christmas! -Shane

Thank you for a very detailed and informative video! I was looking more for a natural gas line from meter to generator. Love the propane setup but is easier to go to natural gas and forget about swapping out tanks etc. Went to Ebay did not find a natural gas set up or a tri-gas-propane-natural gas set up.

Just try typing "Tri Fuel Carburetor" in your searches. It works better than looking for "nat gas" in your searches. Have a super weekend! -Shane
"The spring that aggravates you" is there to take the 'slop' out of the governor's speed control adjustments - especially when the little hole wears a little. Since the frequency and quality of the alternating current is dependent upon engine speed it's not just something to aggravate you, but rather is an important component of the governor.
Another awesome video. I’m subscribed to your channel now and man this info is great. I was totally unaware you could do this so I ordered one of these carbs for my generator. Thanks so much for showing us how it’s done!

Exactly what I needed to know. I just bought a non-inverted 4kw to backup my inverted 3.5kw. I just received the dual fuel carb (~$7). As per your advise, I have ordered a new lpg regulator. The carb was very easy to swap. Should know in a day or two how it performs. Damn regulator was twice as much as the carb 🙄. I have also weighed the LPG tank and will weigh again after testing. This carb upgrade will not work on the inverter generator as that has a stepper motor controlling the throttle. I am still searching.
I was a GM mechanic and did mostly engine rebuilding or replacements, One day I see all my coworkers standing around a block on the stand, It was motor that ran on LP, It had 25k miles on it, None of us had ever seen an engine so immaculate . This motor looked as if it had just been assembled, This made me understand how dirty gasoline is Compared to bottled gas, Plus propane can sit in your garage for ten years and doesn't go bad.
It really is amazing with the may other fuels that have measurable benefits over gas, how liquid gasoline became the standard motor fuel simply because it is easier to pour liquid fuel than refill a propane or nat gas tank. I guess it goes to figure that "easy" often trumps "better" Have a super weekend! -shane
@@AHandleOnThings wooooooow. I now need to onow how to get my hands on this converter to use the generator on biogas.. is it possible to generate electricity using biogas to power fans and lights at home?
I squeezed a hose from Natural Gas Line right where the intake is with a a gate valve i had left over from a remodel AND IT WORKS FINE for only a few bucks of hose!
Well...I leaned out the jump door of a C-141 in-flight without a parachute to tell a jumpmaster that our drop zone was held my the enemy once too... but it was a dangerous thing to do and could have resulted in my death if something had gone wrong. It also resulted in me and my Ranger Battalion commander getting called to the carpet of an Airforce commanding generals office to get my butt chewed right properly for risking my life and his career. The point is... lots of stuff works fine... all the way up until it doesn't. I wouldn't personally advise ANYONE to introduce a virtually unlimited supply of natural gas to a generator in the way you have described, start the generator and then leave it unsupervised for ANY amount of time. Now, you are presumably a full grown man and I wont tell you what to do, AND I do personally often follow my favorite old mantra "Safety third" but I would encourage you to think that one through a bit. Good luck and stay safe my friend. -Shane
One of the best videos I have seen for taking something apart and putting it back together. Too many folks just say, “Well, we put it back together.” And they don’t show how they did it. I got a chuckle when you used an electric drill to start the motor. If the power is off, then you can’t run the drill. I don’t have any battery powered drill so I’ll just have to use the pull cord method. I wish there was some kind of conversion kit to change a pull starter to an electric starter.
James, Thank you VERY much for the view and the comment! I wish they made a simple to install starter kit too! That would be a HUGE benefit! Stay safe! -Shane
I have found that if it doesn't start on the first pull, it needs a tune up (Or bad fuel). I can go ahead and use the electric start on my engines but its just away to brute force a problem as opposed to fixing it. Eventually it won't start with an electric start either. IMHO
I wanted to ask about the drill start modified socket you used. Curious about how to avoid kickback if starting with a drill. would appreciate your insights.
Jason, What we did was we took a deep well (spark plug) socket ( it doesn't have to be a deep well) that fit the nut on the flywheel for the generator and we put a little insulation inside the socket to partially fill the socket and then welded them together. The insulation keeps the epoxy from running out in the next step. Then we filled the socket with epoxy thru the square drive part of the socket until the square drive hole of the socket had just enough epoxy to keep the socket driver from engaging solidly enough to lock into the socket. The socket drive that we put in the drill chuck catches the socket enough to drive the motor but when the motor takes off it just pops off no problem. If you need to modify the fit just use a dremel tool and grind out a little epoxy at a time till you get the fit you like. We put just a little blue thread locker on the nut to keep it from loosening up when the motor starts up and pulls free of the drill. The socket stays attached to the nut and does not mess up the balance at all. and anytime you choose to go back to a pull rope drive just pop the socket in reverse with an impact driver and it comes off. Then you put on another nut that fits and pop the pull rope flywheel back on and you are in business. Be sure to get a matching nut for the generator from the hardware store tho... it is almost always a metric thread. We use a common electric drill to do the job because it was handy, but a battery operated drill that has some snort does the job just fine too. -Shane
I’ve got a predator new haven’t even opened. But I can make methane gas with food scraps and poop and use a 3 stage filter then you need a pump to put the methane into a tank so I need a conversion kit. I seen predator kits for $190 is there a cheaper way?
Its great this gentleman presents a $30 kit instead of hundreds that are elsewhere, but one can really do it for NOTHING by just connecting the natural gas line to the air filter housing with a valve to regulate the flow to a precise level.
Chris, Thanks a TON for the comment! I hope it helps you decide if this sort of project is for you! After converting one and using it for a few years, I would never be stuck with only a gasoline generator again ! Have a super evening! -Shane

Marcia, Thank you very much for the excellent comment! I used to have a friend many years ago who made carb conversions for automobiles but I haven't been involved with that side of things myself (yet). So I don't have any guidance for you there. I do know that there is a whole subculture that LIVES that side of things AND the Gasification side as well. Congratulations for such a easy understandable video for a petrol generator gas conversion, I'd wish u to answer 4 questions. First, is it so easy to start the gas-fed motor with the pulling cord as with a power drill as u do?, second, what's the gas running power loss compared to petrol?, third, does it tune fuel dose quick and smoothly face to sudden big power consumption changes, and fourth, engine cold can be gas started directly or previously needs be petrol started?, thanks
Salvadore, Thanks a bunch for taking the time to comment! Here are the answers to your questions (as best as I can do) 1) It is the same starting effort for gasoline or propane. I prefer to use the drill (especially for camera) because it is easier and looks better than pull starting 2) Power loss, I have no way to measure the power loss but I have heard that 15-20% loss is to be expected when running on propane instead of gasoline and I see no reason to question or doubt that estimate. 3) The machine runs normally under load and tunes to a smooth run very easily. No real difference from gasoline operation in my experience. 4) you could start with gas and warm the engine up and then shut off gas and switch over to propane but I have not done this since I haven't had a need to. Mine fires up easily on propane so I dont really use gasoline in it anymore. It is nice however knowing that the option to run on gasoline is still preserved! Have a super evening! Stay safe and stay healthy! -Shane
If ever you pop this open, I have a question. Have you ever tried to convert a Firman 3550-4450W to an electric starter. I thought of taking of the recoil starter and doing the drill starter but, I wonder if there is an add on conversion. Its a bear to start on propane when really cold. I have to start with gas to warm it up first. Then hand choke the intake to get it to pull the propane in properly. I was talking to the Generac guys installing their system at one of my clients homes and he suggested a propane specific carb and not a trifuel carb. He also mentioned that their regulators run at 1/2 a psi. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
I have not tried a Firman generator. I find the drill starter makes it all possible for me. I blew an elbow up so it is tricky for me to NOT use an electric start of some kind. As for the propane specific carb... I would absolutely agree that if you can get a specific device, it will ALWAYS be a better option than a "this one does it all for you" product. As is the case with so many things in life, one size may fit all, but it does a poor job at most of the things it does. Have a super day my friend. -Shane
@@AHandleOnThings I am just concerned that the drill may exert too much stress on that crankshaft bolt. Hmmm! Maybe an adapter that would disperse the stress or torque over a larger surface. Too bad that they didn’t design it such that a starter can easily be added. Thank you for your input. Neil.
As long as the kit you installed is a dual or tri-fuel model lie the one installed in the video , yes you can. Have a super holiday weekend! Stay safe, -shane
Will that conversion kit work on a 8000/10000w Firman generator ? I'd like to convert my generator from gas powered, and connect it to the natural gas system I have in my home. If the answer is yes, where can I purchase this conversion kit ? Great video, and thanks for your help. All the best. 👍

Doc, Sorry, but I dont rightly know which kit would fit your Generac. I do know that they are an "often converted" generator tho. There has got to be something out there for that one. Let us know what you come up with! -=Shane
So glad to see you did it right and used an on demand regulator which came on the new carburetor! I’ve seen too many people show how to just poke in a hose somewhere, and let uncontrolled gas flow to make it run!!! They fail to know or inform the people watching that this is highly dangerous and could kill you and your family!!! And the generator governor won’t regulate engine speed under changing loads!!!
That is EXACTLY right! There are a lot of people out there taking a huge chance with liquid propane in that way. Thanks a TON for the comment ! Stay safe and stay healthy my friend! -Shane
@@AHandleOnThings I have tried a similar carburetor on an old Tecumseh 10hp generator. I just used the regular on the new carburetor because it won’t bolt up to the manifold without an adapter. It runs but surges so I’m going to drill in a fitting further downstream and see if that works, if not I’ll make an adapter plate and bolt the whole new carburetor up to it
Joseph, The short answer is, hooking up to the natural gas line is too much of a liability for me to be comfortable to show on UA-cam. This setup is capable however of being hooked right to your nat gas supply per the manufacturers specifications. And I have had one of my generators hooked to the natural gas using this setup and it worked fine. The only thing that "I" used was a tie in hose with an additional regulator that served my nat gas BBQ grill when it was not being used for the generator. I simply unhooked the nat gas BBQ grill and fed it to the generator. That said, in my own personal opinion, using this setup with propane is safer and I just like it better. Not saying YOU can't or shouldn't hook to Nat Gas, just saying I prefer the propane hook up but they are supplied with either type of gas in essentially the same way. Stay safe my friend, -Shane
We have a 8000 w gen with a B/S 18hp V twin. It's a 2002 model year. I can't find the correct carb conversion kit I need for it. Any advice/link would be awesome. Great video, very well presented and very informative, thank you. Subbed.
Sorry but I just dont know what kit might fit your gen set. So many of the kits that used to be on the market have just disappeared over the last year or so. Thank you for the comment tho, and I will ask around and if I come up with any ideas for you I will let you know for sure. Stay safe, -Shane
Propane applications always want a regulator at the tank as well. I'm not saying you couldn't get by without it, but all of the instructibles you will find require it. And with this particular kit, in my experience, the generator just wont start without the heavily limited supply of propane from the first regulator. Have a great weekend, and stay safe! -Shane
some propane regulators have a "Excess Flow" spring loaded check valve. If you open the tank valve too fast it shuts off down to just a trickle. Then you have to shut the tank valve and bleed off any pressure and the reopen the tank valve "slowly".
So my generator will only run when the bleed valve is depressed, and it runs rough, am i to understand that it's still too rich? I was thinking i had a vacume leak, not enough fuel getting into the system, but neither adjustment, reducing or adding, lpg before the on demand regulator allowed the machine to idle on its own. I am certain the regulator gives fuel when a vaccum is pressent, and i've played with 3 different styles of these carb regulator combos, non have given me this trouble so far. Any help would be apppreciated
Fitch, It would be impossible for me to troubleshoot your situation without being there, but in my experience on my machines, I had to keep cutting the propane flow back until they ran clean... and I was very surprised at how much I had to cut it back before I got there. Made me shake my head on the first few times. Let us knw what you come up with -Shane
Gday mate great vid appreciated Can you tell me approximately how long 9kg/20lb bottle would last on 5/6hp motor running ac or at max power output Cheers Legend 👊
Jeff, I have had a few requests for that so I will see if I can make a quick video on that! I'll try to get it done here pretty soon, watch for it! -Shane
I don't use mine for natural gas much, I live in the woods and propane is just more regularly available to me, but I have run these on nat gas from time to time and have not had any issues with the setup I have. -Shane
Lavern, Assuming that you have replaced the gasoline with new gas already, your rough running problem is almost certainly dirty jets or fuel apertures. So... either cleaning or replacing them would make the motor run smoothly again (most likely) and replacing the carb with a new one (with or without LPG capability) would also fix the problem. (most likely).
The kit is hard to find lately due to the difficulties in getting things made in China. I have heard that Ali Express has them but I haven't confirmed that Good luck, -Shane
Sir, I am a retired mechanical engineer and was really impressed by your presentation! I worked as a manager in big-time fortune 500 and I would hire you in a New York minute to teach my staff. Anyway, your written comments were so complete that I don't even have to ask if this will work on a Champion 5000w 100596 - I've already ordered one. I just need for nat gas only (not even gasoline), so I do I need a regulator? AND you definitely have a new subscriber. Thanks!!! Stay well. Oops - just saw that this is only good for 224 cc, my Champion 5000w is 292 cc. I ordered "Hipa Generator Dual Fuel Carburetor LPG CNG Conversion kit 4.5-5.5KW GX390 188F Manual Choke " on Amazon - hope it works. It also has the two wires for low oil shutdown.
I don’t have natural gas that runs my house. So is there any difference in house propane versus portable bottle propane for grills? Hope I explained myself well.
Jim, I'm not familiar with that particular generator, but your best bet would be to pull the carb off of the generator and see if the mating surface and gasket area is similar to what you see on the conversion carb kit in the video. If it looks mighty similar, you should be in good shape. Stay safe and stay healthy my friend! -Shane
Gordon, Thank YOU for taking the time to shoot us a message! I hope the video gives you some ideas! I find my propane generators sit around for long periods of time and then suddenly I need them and they are extremely useful and they go right into service without a bunch of work because the gas hasn't turned to junk! I hope your 4th of July weekend is going well! -Shane
I’ve got a similar setup on my Troy Bilt 13hp generator. I cannot get it started, figured it could be the Torch spark plug, so I changed it out for an NGKBRE6S, still will not start. Motor has an electric start, Is it possible, that the motor is not turning over fast enough to create a strong enough vacumn to pull the propane into the motor? Watching your video, I noticed you use a drill to turn your generator over, do you think that would maybe work with my Troy Bilt. Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated. Thx much.
Im not sure. There are soooo many variants of generator out there. have a look at the interface gaskets and that should be a strong indicator for you. Let us know what you come up with! Merry Christmas. -Shane
Shane, I still haven’t had any luck starting my setup. A question hopefully you’ll have the answer to. I open my tank all the way, then my HP regulator, but I never hear any gas nor do I get any gas too the carb. I can turn my HP regulator open at least 3 full turns and at that point I can hear the gas, and I mean lots of gas, so I’ve been immediately turn it off, now the question I have is that normal for the HP regulator now the question I have is it normal for that HP regulator to open that many turns? I was thinking maybe I have a bad regulator. However if it’s normal for it to open that far, maybe I just need to play with it more. My concern was that much gas rushing someplace could cause an explosion. Any help/comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Shane, I have a Robin RGX3500 watt gasoline generator that I like to convert to propane and natural gas just like you showed in your video. I am unable to determine the correct carburetor and regulator combination for the Wisconsin WI-208 (EY-28)/ Subaru / Robin EY280YD2510 engine. Can you help?
Craig, Sorry my friend, I'm not familiar with that particular motor. I used to have a friend in El Paso who did conversions on just about everything so I know it can be done. Sadly, my friend in El Paso isn't around any more. Search around some though, there is certainly someone else making custom kits and such Let us know what you come up with -Shane
@@AHandleOnThings Thanks for the reply Shane, turns out on the carbs for 13 HP Generators the barbed fitting matched the cut off regulator hose, no fitting was necessary. Very tight fit, but that is good.
Frank, I am a true believer in having fast ways of shutting off the fuel. If the tank is right there and a shut off is right at hand, I guess I personally would not drive 500 miles or wait 2 weeks for a redundant valve. Use your best judgement! Merry Christmas! -Shane
GREAT VIDEO!! I have a Champion 100892 Inverter Generator (224cc, 4650W surge, 3500W running). Will this conversion work on an my inverter generator? I've read both yes and no. Will this carb work on my generator?
Jack, Thanks for the comment we appreciate you! The truth is I'm not sure on your generator... It is right on the edge of what this particular kit is rated at. If it were me I would take a chance for $30 bucks though... The worst that could happen is it doesn't fit and you have a kit to trade or sell to someone else or buy a craigslist generator for. Do us a big favor though please... let us know how it turns out so other folks can get the straight answer ! Thanks again! -Shane
I really love your video it is way better explained than any others I watched. I wanna conver an A-i Power generator, do you know if that kit works on it?
Thanks for the comment! I don't know if the kit works on that machine... Your best bet would be to pull the carb and compare the orifice to the gaskets sets shown in the video. Be sure to let us know what you find out, lots of people read the posts and are interested in what machines work with what kits! -Shane
Unfortunately this kit only services motors up to about 5-6hp... There are many other kits out there that may fit your machine tho. The change out is going to be largely the same process. Cheers, -Shane
I get about 12 hours if Im not loading it up much... just running the lights at the cabin for instance... but if I use it to run a compressor and saws all day on a construction project I get something closer to 8 hours. Stay safe and healthy, -Shane
The regulator I used didn't even say on the packaging which it was. The top pressure of the regulator doesn't matter though, as long as it will close off to zero it should work for you since you are looking for it to give you adjustability on the low end and not a max flow amount. Happy holidays! -Shane
@@AHandleOnThings thanks for the reply shane, my other problem is i was hoping to use your method but the generator i have is an inverter framed generator which has some electronics connected to the carb at the top ? which i am assuming may be something to do with the inverter eco mode function ? would you know if the electronics part fitted to the top of the carb is something that is transferable to one of them chinese carbs ?
EXCELLENT question! I have never had to clean the carb when only running on propane. The propane conversion has LOTS of benefits and never having the carb fouled up with old gas is one of the best! -Shane

You made it look so easy that I feel confident in trying it.
Thank you
I am a prepper and have 2 generators but they are both gasoline set up.
Greg,
eBay has definitely been harder to get stuff on lately, keep an eye open for them
Watch for them on amazon tho.

Neil,
You are correct about the whisper of propane to start sir!

Robert,
Lots of carbs available still depending on your motor.

This link will take you to one on amazon for $60 bucks that works for harbor freight generators.
Just try typing "Tri Fuel Carburetor" in your searches. It works better than looking for "nat gas" in your searches.

@@AHandleOnThings Thank you so very much!!! I run a Westinghouse 6500/5500 watt with a 276cc engine I think it is.
"The spring that aggravates you" is there to take the 'slop' out of the governor's speed control adjustments - especially when the little hole wears a little. Since the frequency and quality of the alternating current is dependent upon engine speed it's not just something to aggravate you, but rather is an important component of the governor.

I was a GM mechanic and did mostly engine rebuilding or replacements, One day I see all my coworkers standing around a block on the stand,
It was motor that ran on LP, It had 25k miles on it, None of us had ever seen an engine so immaculate .
This motor looked as if it had just been assembled, This made me understand how dirty gasoline is
Compared to bottled gas, Plus propane can sit in your garage for ten years and doesn't go bad.
It really is amazing with the may other fuels that have measurable benefits over gas, how liquid gasoline became the standard motor fuel simply because it is easier to pour liquid fuel than refill a propane or nat gas tank. I guess it goes to figure that "easy" often trumps "better"
Have a super weekend!

That's awesome I have a wen gen but my air box hits the regulator and my choke lever set up is different I'm still trying find a way to do this
Hello, great video! I am interested in learning the way that you modified that socket to start the generator. could you please explain?
One of the best videos I have seen for taking something apart and putting it back together. Too many folks just say, “Well, we put it back together.” And they don’t show how they did it. I got a chuckle when you used an electric drill to start the motor. If the power is off, then you can’t run the drill. I don’t have any battery powered drill so I’ll just have to use the pull cord method. I wish there was some kind of conversion kit to change a pull starter to an electric starter.
James,
Thank you VERY much for the view and the comment!
Jason,
What we did was we took a deep well (spark plug) socket ( it doesn't have to be a deep well) that fit the nut on the flywheel for the generator and we put a little insulation inside the socket to partially fill the socket and then welded them together.
-Shane
Thank you

I’ve got a predator new haven’t even opened. But I can make methane gas with food scraps and poop and use a 3 stage filter then you need a pump to put the methane into a tank so I need a conversion kit. I seen predator kits for $190 is there a cheaper way?
Tell me more about the socket for starting a small engine
Its great this gentleman presents a $30 kit instead of hundreds that are elsewhere, but one can really do it for NOTHING by just connecting the natural gas line to the air filter housing with a valve to regulate the flow to a precise level.
Yea and if the generator shuts down or an angry neighbor turns it off the gas keeps flowing.

Salvadore,
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to comment!
Here are the answers to your questions (as best as I can do)
1) It is the same starting effort for gasoline or propane. I prefer to use the drill (especially for camera) because it is easier and looks better than pull starting
2) Power loss, I have no way to measure the power loss but I have heard that 15-20% loss is to be expected when running on propane instead of gasoline and I see no reason to question or doubt that estimate.

@@AHandleOnThings I am just concerned that the drill may exert too much stress on that crankshaft bolt.

@@AHandleOnThings I have tried a similar carburetor on an old Tecumseh 10hp generator. I just used the regular on the new carburetor because it won’t bolt up to the manifold without an adapter. It runs but surges so I’m going to drill in a fitting further downstream and see if that works, if not I’ll make an adapter plate and bolt the whole new carburetor up to it
Nice video ? you did not show connecting to a natural gas line......is anything else needed for NG connection ? Thanks
Stay safe my friend,

Sorry but I just dont know what kit might fit your gen set. So many of the kits that used to be on the market have just disappeared over the last year or so.
Thank you for the comment tho, and I will ask around and if I come up with any ideas for you I will let you know for sure.
Stay safe,
-Shane
Isn’t the round part on your replacement carburetor a regulator and if it is do you also need the regulator by the tank?
Propane applications always want a regulator at the tank as well.
I'm not saying you couldn't get by without it, but all of the instructibles you will find require it. And with this particular kit, in my experience, the generator just wont start without the heavily limited supply of propane from the first regulator.
Have a great weekend, and stay safe!
-Shane
some propane regulators have a "Excess Flow" spring loaded check valve. If you open the tank valve too fast it shuts off down to just a trickle. Then you have to shut the tank valve and bleed off any pressure and the reopen the tank valve "slowly".
Yep, that's true too.!
Thanks for the view and the comment!
-Shane
So my generator will only run when the bleed valve is depressed, and it runs rough, am i to understand that it's still too rich? I was thinking i had a vacume leak, not enough fuel getting into the system, but neither adjustment, reducing or adding, lpg before the on demand regulator allowed the machine to idle on its own. I am certain the regulator gives fuel when a vaccum is pressent, and i've played with 3 different styles of these carb regulator combos, non have given me this trouble so far.
Any help would be apppreciated
Fitch,
It would be impossible for me to troubleshoot your situation without being there, but in my experience on my machines, I had to keep cutting the propane flow back until they ran clean... and I was very surprised at how much I had to cut it back before I got there. Made me shake my head on the first few times.
Let us knw what you come up with

Do you have issues with the native (gasoline) compression valve handling natural gas?
I don't use mine for natural gas much, I live in the woods and propane is just more regularly available to me, but I have run these on nat gas from time to time and have not had any issues with the setup I have.
-Shane
I have a 2000Honda that I put bad gas in. If it runs at all it is ragged. Can I convert to propane and fix the problem?
Lavern,
Assuming that you have replaced the gasoline with new gas already, your rough running problem is almost certainly dirty jets or fuel apertures. So... either cleaning or replacing them would make the motor run smoothly again (most likely) and replacing the carb with a new one (with or without LPG capability) would also fix the problem. (most likely).
I’m curious where the eBay link is. All that I’ve seen are 179 and up.
The kit is hard to find lately due to the difficulties in getting things made in China. I have heard that Ali Express has them but I haven't confirmed that
Good luck,

Jim, I'm not familiar with that particular generator, but your best bet would be to pull the carb off of the generator and see if the mating surface and gasket area is similar to what you see on the conversion carb kit in the video. If it looks mighty similar, you should be in good shape.

Craig,
Sorry my friend, I'm not familiar with that particular motor.
I used to have a friend in El Paso who did conversions on just about everything so I know it can be done. Sadly, my friend in El Paso isn't around any more.
Search around some though, there is certainly someone else making custom kits and such
Let us know what you come up with

Handle do you any chance remember what size that small piece of adapter hose was?
Dave,
I want to say it was a 1/2" Inside diameter hose that fit on mine for the adapter piece

@@AHandleOnThings Thanks for the reply Shane, turns out on the carbs for 13 HP Generators the barbed fitting matched the cut off regulator hose, no fitting was necessary. Very tight fit, but that is good.
I have no fuel valve cut off from tank to carburettor, do I have to buy one ??
Frank,
I am a true believer in having fast ways of shutting off the fuel.
If the tank is right there and a shut off is right at hand, I guess I personally would not drive 500 miles or wait 2 weeks for a redundant valve. Use your best judgement!
Merry Christmas!

GREAT VIDEO!! I have a Champion 100892 Inverter Generator (224cc, 4650W surge, 3500W running). Will this conversion work on an my inverter generator? I've read both yes and no. Will this carb work on my generator?
Jack,
Thanks for the comment we appreciate you!

When starting on propane do you close the choke or leave it fully open?
I usually choke it when starting but remain flexible, your results may vary.

-Shane
thanks very good. God bless
Adolfo,
Thanks a bunch for the view and the comment my friend!
We appreciate the feedback!

Thanks for this video. I have a Briggs-Stratton 5500 10HP generator. Will this one fit? And will I need a separate tank regulator?
Unfortunately this kit only services motors up to about 5-6hp... There are many other kits out there that may fit your machine tho. The change out is going to be largely the same process.
Cheers,
-Shane
Any idea how long you can run on a 20 lb propane tank?
I get about 12 hours if Im not loading it up much... just running the lights at the cabin for instance... but if I use it to run a compressor and saws all day on a construction project I get something closer to 8 hours.
Stay safe and healthy,
-Shane
hello i am looking at doing something like this and wondered if your high pressure regulator was max 2bar or 4 bar ? thanks
The regulator I used didn't even say on the packaging which it was. The top pressure of the regulator doesn't matter though, as long as it will close off to zero it should work for you since you are looking for it to give you adjustability on the low end and not a max flow amount.
Happy holidays!

I dont know for sure, but I would suspect that the necessity of the additional electronics may not allow for the conversion with this kit.

if you run propane do you need to clean the carburetor once in a while like gas?
EXCELLENT question!
I have never had to clean the carb when only running on propane. The propane conversion has LOTS of benefits and never having the carb fouled up with old gas is one of the best!
-Shane
This is a good video, however, I have a much larger generator (11500 Champion). How can I find the correct carburetor for my bigger engine?
Darwin,
The best answer I can give you is to search google, amazon, or eBay ... there are many kits available for many motors so I wouldn't be surprised to hear you find the one you are looking for.
Sorry I dont have a better answer for you
-Shane
Anything different about doing this conversion on an 8500 Watt generator?
Jason,
The kits should install similarly but they will certainly be different sizes.
Have a great evening
-Shane
Did I miss the part about the natural gas hook up?
great video thanks
Fisherman,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
Hope you are having a SUPER long weekend!
Stay safe!
