I have never met such an innovative software developer. And the best part of DR are guys like you, Darryn and AlexTech or Jamie Fenn.
@hbonthetrack yes I do. I record screen and mic to my Mac and record the camera with top mic. Then sync the two together using 'sync using audio waveform' feature. Edit the video, add gfx using MotionVFX plugins then generate subtitles using resolve. All in Resolve. Thanks
I love how simple you make everything sound. Lots of other videos from people explain things so fast that it’s difficult to keep up. I’m going to try your tips for making shorts. Thanks

Nice beginner tips and evangelism. For years I've leveraged "Selection follows playhead" for straight up faster editing, combined with "Swap clips L/R" and other keyboard shortcuts in the Edit page. That workflow easily rivals the cut page for editing speed. But I bought the Speed Editor for assembling recently and... things keep evolving :). I do think "SFP" should work in the Cut page too! Nice tips. Also Fusion is a powerhouse that not everyone can use without some skill, but once you learn it, it adds to much to the resolve package. Replaces After Effects and Premier but all in one app, which for color grading and editing can add the motion graphic aspect and clean up of footage. Retouching, cloning, compositing etc.
@@rano12321 Me too. I got tired of switching between Premier and After Effects, having both crashed and run out of memory for even simple tasks. While Resolve and Fusion in particular is not immune to crashes, they always save everything with live saves, so I don't lose anything, and I can do more with less storage space and memory than anything in After Effects. Plus, the feature set is out of the box, if we don't count third-party plug-ins, and more robust and flexible than After Effects. Once one learns the node-based system workflows, it can be very rewarding overall, but it's harder to pick up than intuitive layer-based systems like After Effects. Which is its big advantage and also its biggest bottleneck with a more complex composition. For me. After Effects still has third-party plug-ins I use that don't exist for Fusion, but as a stock version of After Effects, it's a no-brainer to switch to Fusion. Also, Adobe teases some Generative Fill type functionality for After Effects and Premier in the future, although I'm sure it will be credits- and subscription-based. But with open source AI and some manual tweaking, a lot of that can be done already in Fiusion, so probably not enough to go back.

By far, the best Davinci Resolve channel ever. I have one tecnical question that apparently nobody talks about. Do you know any real solution for "horizon lock"? When i shoot handheld, my horizon keeps rotating clockwise and anti clockwise throughout the clip? Is there a way to keep horizon locked in place without me going to manualy keyframe every second of rotation angle? Maybe somekind of line tracking that is applied to the clip to stabilize it (if it makes any sense). Thank you!
Thank you Darren. Is Auto Subtitle Creation tool working in polish language? Many separate applications that offer Closed Captions feature have very limited choice of languages. I really like your videos.
Try "Subtitle Edit". I use this program to create subtitles in Ukrainian, works very well! If you select the "large" AI voice model, I think the recognition will be even better than Resolve does, even for English.
4:12, just set your scaling to fill the frame, that way you never have to do this step, if your footage isn't the correct aspect ratio. (Very usefull when you are fioming open gate aswell.)
Although the free version of Resolve is an absolutely awesome tool to have, it still requires a bit of computing power. This was my problem... I have a laptop that runs free editing software like Capcut and Resolve very easily. Until you start adding effects, that is... Then everything slows to a crawl or just crashes. So, I had a machine built to overcome that problem, and it did. The thing is... having spent the money on a computer to run Reseolve free version perfectly and not having Studio is really stupid. Hey Darren - Thanks for the great videos... Question, if I buy the studio version can it also be installed on my laptop or do I have to buy it twice? I often work on the road, so having it on both devices certainly would be a benefit. thx...
Is there a way to isolate different types of sounds? For instance, you showed Voice isolation. Are there different models/profiles/template/whatever that exist in DR or that can be downloaded? Currently I'm trying to isolate the sound of birds singing without the background vehicle traffic noise.
Had a question about another topic, maybe it’s a simple answer or needs a video. I just wrapped on my second feature, and thankfully both only asked me get them a Rec. 709 gamma 2.4 export, they’ll be making blu rays and such, and then they also asked for a web delivery which I got them. However I know what I’m doing to get them multiple deliveries isn’t correct even though it does work. For reference, what I’m doing is going into resolve with a high quality prores file, gamma 2.4, and dropping it into a gamma 2.2 timeline, and transforming it into 2.2 via cst. This works pretty well actually, however I know I can’t simply do that for other deliverables like p3 gamma 2.6 and beyond. My question is how do you manage delivery for everything, web theatrical streaming the works?
Hey Darren, what are you doing in Kandersteg? I live close by, so next time coffee‘s on me 😃 Great tips, didn‘t know the point about better performance in Studio. Thx and regards from switzerland
Thanks and appreciate the coffee offer but about 4 weeks too late! I was getting that weird train that took my Van THROUGH that mountain as a shortcut. Still did lots of alps driving - was great. Hello Darren. Is there a way to get the Media Page/Pool's video thumbnails to reflect just the actual _duration_ of a clip & not treat every clip as a full-length source clone when you scroll thru it? If so, can the solution be applied to multiple clips? Thanks for your time.
@DarrenMostyn I appreciate it. Been loving your videos, you have a great way of explaining your knowledge. Gotta make the time, but will sign up for some of your seminars. Thanks again!
Sir, I am buying the speed editor board and the studio version will be there with it,,, I have a question,, does the studio version is life time update free? or I have to pay after one year or after some major updates? i am confused,, pls reply,,,
Thank you as always! I have a studio account but in my version, the voice isolation feature seems to be missing in the inspector page. What do you think it is causing this? (I am using isolation in the Fairlight page.)
Besides the incredible power of the Studio version, once you buy it you own it. Unlike Adobe or Autodesk, in which you can pay $10k for a perpetual license only to be then forced to go onto to subscriptions for another $4k per year.
@@DarrenMostyn, oh, sorry I wasn't clear. Fairlight has an audio effect called Noise Reduction that can be launched from either the Effects tab in the upper left, or from the Mixer.

I recently got davinci resolve studio but after finding a workaround for just about everything using the free version I find myself only relying on a handful of tools for projects. Is this the reason for the 5 tools you mention or does anyone else have a similar experience?
You know, and I've booked marked this. They have fixed the option +/, hang on........ Oh maybe it was just in Fairlight, select range hit loop then play?
but if you are a content creator that does a bit more animation on top of video editing, i.e. lots of keyframing, davinci is quite a huge disappointment. the edit page keyframe curve editor can only do basic parameter like opacity and scale, any keyframe done in effect cannot even do some simple easing, let alone keyframe angle and velocity adjustment. you can do that in fusion page but that page is ill suited for video editing. need some keyframe on effect with nice easing sync to the music beat? davinci simply can't do that. I asked in all the davinci groups, and all i get is this has been asked for years as feature request that never come....

I used to have an apartment in French Alps (La Plagne) so I know the driving conditions well ! I'll look you up next time! Cheers, Darren.
@@DarrenMostyn Haha, „weird train“, I‘m so used to it that I never thought this could be weird to others but guess it‘s not the norm to travel piggyback with your car on a train 😄
Hello Darren. Is there a way to get the Media Page/Pool's video thumbnails to reflect just the actual _duration_ of a clip & not treat every clip as a full-length source clone when you scroll thru it? If so, can the solution be applied to multiple clips? Thanks for your time.
Something separate. You certainly have a great voice, however, what microphone do you use to enhance the sound?
Thanks. Its a sennheiser 416. No eq, no compression. Just straight record through a scarlet focus.
@DarrenMostyn I appreciate it. Been loving your videos, you have a great way of explaining your knowledge. Gotta make the time, but will sign up for some of your seminars. Thanks again!
Do Blackmagic normally do black friday deals
No. Blackmagic dont sell direct. You have to buy through a reseller. See their website for your local reseller.
Old version maybe ?
Besides the incredible power of the Studio version, once you buy it you own it. Unlike Adobe or Autodesk, in which you can pay $10k for a perpetual license only to be then forced to go onto to subscriptions for another $4k per year.
no brainer - BUY STUDIO!
3:07 you still exported the wrong format... mouse click no worky?
Will you recommend the studio davinci resolve over premiere pro for gaming videos ect?
why for gaming videos ?
Darren, do you use both noise reduction _and_ voice isolation in a given clip, of has voice isolation obviated the need for noise reduction?
NR is for video. VI is for audio so im a bit lost to your question ?
@@DarrenMostyn, oh, sorry I wasn't clear. Fairlight has an audio effect called Noise Reduction that can be launched from either the Effects tab in the upper left, or from the Mixer.
A really deep question. Suppose I want to turn my life 180°. I’ve never studied film, or color grading or anything like it (I’m have PhD in physics so you can imagine 😂).
I have some experience with editing and audio because I have a few podcast but just as a hobby.
I can expend hours watching your videos. If I would like to be like you, what is the first thing you would recommend to me?
Best regards and thank you for all your videos and work!
If I wanted to be like you
If I would like to be
I would recommend joining my next masterclass - you sadly just missed one, may do another one next summer. I go into all my business, and how to do what I do step by step. A real chance to get inside my head for 4 days! All the best and good luck! Darren
I recently got davinci resolve studio but after finding a workaround for just about everything using the free version I find myself only relying on a handful of tools for projects. Is this the reason for the 5 tools you mention or does anyone else have a similar experience?
Do you know is there any discount for studio version?
No there isn't.
what is that button changing aspect ratio at 3:54 from? its not in my studio version?
In cut page
You know, and I've booked marked this. They have fixed the option +/, hang on........ Oh maybe it was just in Fairlight, select range hit loop then play?
someone else mentioned earlier so you may be right ....always learning! Love that!
@@DarrenMostyn that's what life is about isn't it, UA-cam opens that up to the max.
Good video
Thanks
but if you are a content creator that does a bit more animation on top of video editing, i.e. lots of keyframing, davinci is quite a huge disappointment. the edit page keyframe curve editor can only do basic parameter like opacity and scale, any keyframe done in effect cannot even do some simple easing, let alone keyframe angle and velocity adjustment. you can do that in fusion page but that page is ill suited for video editing. need some keyframe on effect with nice easing sync to the music beat? davinci simply can't do that.
I asked in all the davinci groups, and all i get is this has been asked for years as feature request that never come....
I really like one-time fees and not subscriptions.
who doesn't?
'Promo SM'
Do not, please, burn in subtitles, please!!😁And guys/gels get the Studio version!
Burn in subtitles if intentional is what I meant. For insta reels etc it can be useful
