'07 Dodge Charger R/T Cranks Over But Won't Start

- This is a request video. I have a 2007 Dodge Charger R/T. When I try to start it it cranks over but will not start. This started happening a few days ago. When I turned the key to the accessory and waited a few seconds it would start. This only happened after the car had sat over night. The rest of the day it started just fine. Now it will not start at all. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for watching.

Try holding the key in the start position for 5 to 10 seconds mine was doing the same thing and doing this started the car it could be the sensor in your key or the ignition doing this bypassed the sensor and started the car I hope this helps out some stranded ppl out there

If your TIPM is bad it can cause your fuel pump not to kick on the TIPM is the TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE

If you get it to start run fuel injector cleaner in it. Also, only use ethanol free gas!

I had a similar problem on my 06 Mag when the crank sensor got pulled out somehow, just took longer than usual to crank

so my car is having the EXACT issue. I changed out my fuel pump because I couldn’t here it running when the key was “ON” ... now, with the fuel pump audibly running when it should, my car still cranks and cranks without starting. did your mechanic ground the fuel pump relay right there at the rear fuse box or what? any chance I can get the wiring diagram he used or something that says where he added the ground?

Ron Madrigal actually, yes, I did. found some chewed up wiring (rodents) and it had blown the fuse for the injectors and ignition coils. replaced the fuse, replaced the wiring, and the car started right up - but it had codes (all four O2 heater banks bad). long story short - the PCM fried. replaced it and all has been good

@@johum187 I found a couple chewed up wires in the bundle that dips down the passenger side along the headers. just above the headers is where I found it

Starter relay under the hood. It’s a common problem from 06 to 2010.
If the car is cranking how could it be a starter relay?

@onmydedpen1776 if it's a starter relay and the starter is doing its job cranking the engine then how can it be the starter relay? Am I missing something?

Can the oil pressure sensor cause it not to start if it goes bad?
It’ll start but that can cause it to die on you while its running.. it triggers the oil pressure saftey feature in the car where it shuts down cause it thinks there is no oil
look for the big square run start relay and lift up relay box n make sure cables are connected n locked n place an another thing spray lil starter fluid in intake n start it to see if ur fuel pump goin bad and if u got check engine light tel me code
The first thing you need to do is get a code reader and see what is causing the CEL to stay on. That is step one. You can get a good code reader for about $50. If you can't buy one, rent or borrow one from your local auto parts store.

Isreal Bandit yes but I don’t remember what it was cause right after it was fixed my transmission went out and had to get that replaced, I’d have to look at shop invoices

Hello my 2006 srt8 Charger has starting issues. My car turns on fine 8 out of 10 times. The other 2 it just keeps turning over(cranking) for about 3 seconds. Until I try again and again until it turns on. Any ideas?

Hey, Guys, I'm going crazy with this 2008 dodge charger v6. 3.5 . I was smelling burned plastic and the starter started to lose power , with very weak sign didnt wanted to turn on the car, well I replaced the starter Now I put the key and turn to the on position and it don't want to stop cranking but it won't turn on the car, so I went a got the cranking position sensor and nothing can someone help me please

My 2010 Challenger does same thing, only I'm driving along and the engine just dies, have to coast to shoulder of the road, shut it down, wait 1 minute to restart engine, might take 2-3 times like this video demonstrates then it starts and I can carry on until next time it happens. Sadly Dodge doesn't even know what causes it, all they say is "Cannot replicate the condition" charge you $200 and send you home. I reported this 2x now to Transport Canada and to FIAT Canada Customer Service and to a local TV station reporter to flag the issue over the news and he's now interviewing owners for their stories and scary moments. I'm thinking a Class Action Law suit is my next course of action. It's not just Challengers and Chargers either, it's all of Dodges product line including the Jeep line, there are also reports online from Ford owners, Chev Owners and some foreign makes same problem. What the common thread? The CANBUS system in all these cars. I educated myself on CANBUS, I recommend everyone here does and then go get a lawyer and sue Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/FIAT or whoever the Parent owner is of Dodge is these days. derplinkster No nothing yet. I've been so busy with other stuff that I haven't had much time to work on it. I've eliminated a few things though. I really hope it isn't the fuel pump but it's kind of looking like that. This crap has got me so freaking stressed lol. I don't have that much money so looks like I'll be riding the bus for a while lol. Thanks for the comment.

might be worth asking parts store to rent/borrow a scanner, see if it set a code, maybe disconnect battery and try again, look for a fuel rail up top the intake, and look for something similar to a valve stem with a cap on usually lil bigger you can turn the key on 'Run' depress the valve deal and see if ya got fuel pressure

+metaltrooper62 if ya have a key fob that has a battery , sounds crazy but if fob is dead car sometimes won't recognize key.

well maybe not to the floor but pressing it down some parents Durango. and the dakota r/t and freaking old imperial I have had to replace the idle air control valve on nowadays it could be alot of things
Pull the air box off and shoot some brake clean or ether in the throttle body see if it fires that will tell u if you have a fuel delivery issue a crankshaft sensor will give you no spark and no fuel

candy melgoza it's the anti theft mode. If yours is lit up you have to resynch both of your keys or take it to a dealer
I don't know if you got it fixed my 06 srt 8 was doing the same, checked the fuses in the front box the number 15 fuses needed to be replaced it would be a 20 amp ,it controls the injector ignition coils. Good Lucky my friend

My 06 Dodge Charger Hemi 5.7 engine was doing the same thing come to find out it was a blowed fuse the one was in the trunk change it out started right up

Perhaps if you pump the gas pedel, really mash the pedel 15× or more---maybe that will do it

I've never had any issues with it. When I bought it in '10 it only had about 20K miles on it. I'm close to work so that helps with the miles. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Sounds like your key needs to be reprogrammed. The ECU does not recognize the command from the key code and it's locking out the coil packs it's a security issue you gotta have your key reflashed by the dealer or someone who has the software to piggyback your ECU. This is a common issue with the 5.7 6.1 LX platform. However from what you were saying the symptoms are this should fix it. Good Luck

Yes I did find a guy that figured it out. Sorry for not responding quicker but I'm not getting notifications that people are commenting on my videos. The problem was the computer was getting a false reading that the fuel pump relay was not grounded. Some times it would start and other times it wouldn't. It took him over 2 weeks to actually see the problem happening. He said he has only seen this a few times happen. He just ran a ground wire from the fuel pump relay so the computer would not get the false reading. He could of replaced the computer but that was going to be around $1,200 which I did not have. The one problem with the way he fixed it is if you turn the key on with out starting the car the fuel pump will run until the fuel pump just burns it's self out. I never just leave my key on without starting my car. He only charged me $350 and it's been starting just fine since he fixed it. He gave me the wiring diagram to keep just incase there would be more issues and he could track down the problem. I really need to do an updated video on this but my schedule is crazy busy this time of the year. It would be easier to explain in a video and show the diagram so hopefully I can do that soon. Sorry again for the delay in responding to comments but not getting these notifications makes it almost impossible to find new comments on my older videos. My 2008 Dodge Magnum has no start issues when I try to crank it it's like it's a continuous run trying to start but cant and I have to turn the key off and after a few hours or so of it sitting it will start. The car has done this to me a few times now and the first couple of times was before the brand new fuel pump was put in but 2 days ago I went to run some errands and I was going to make a u turn and the car shut off on me without warning in the middle of a intersection it wouldn't start again so I had to push it to the side of the road and get someone to come tow it and I am still unable to get it started it's just doing that continuous turn over without starting. I did put a little gas in the engine and it started up for a second but shut off again I checked all the fuses and they are all good I even switched my fuses around but nothing has changed..I don't know what else to do

@@truthhurts7869 I have an ignition switch recall... thought it might been that. A mechanic supposely fixed 10 things on the car and the ignition module wasnt one of them. But now after i got my car back after paying 650 the check engine light came back on with the same code as before whuch is p0301 and now when u start the car u smell exhaust. And when u accelerate the exhaust fumes go thru my air vents inside the car and gives u a headache. U know what that might be????
@@truthhurts7869 Camshaft sensor ,spark plugs ,2 coils ,wire set ,valve cover gaskets with gromets,intake gaskets,egr,egr tube gasket,heli coil kit.
(These are what the guy fixed supposly to make my car not have the long crank time for it to turn on. I dont know about these parts if they even have to to with a crank. We asked which part was the issue and he wouldnt say... and he also wrecked my car the same day he fixed it. Now he aint trying to fix my check engine light

Maybe a fuel pump does it start if you put gas pedal to the floor I do know dodge have idle air control valves that go bad or act up. and if the valve is not opening it won't start unless you give them air via openi ng the throttle body up
I tried pressing on the gas pedal and that did nothing. I have a buddy that has a code reader so hopefully he can stop by and see if that gives any clue. Thanks for the comment.
This is a drive by wire system, flooring it only puts it into clear flood mode ( shuts off the gas ).

I was thinking that or fuel filter. I had a check up on it a few months ago and they said the fuel injectors were good. I'll have to try that. Process of elimination. Thanks for the info.

I'm having a crank no start issue. Was working just fine.. One day wouldn't start. We thought it was bad fuel pump cause my husband tapped the fuel pump a few times and it started right up.. Few days later the car stopped working and I was on the main road, had to get towed home. Replaced fuel pump and that wasn't it. Had codes pulled from a reader. And shows I have cylinder 1 and 4 misfire out of 6. These 2 particular have to do with spark plugs, fuel Injector, coil packs. Just replaced spark plugs less than 6 months ago. A friend sprayed something under the hood one day and it acted like it wanted to start..but I didnt. Any idea what it could be?

I changed the starter relay locoated under the hood fuse box... there's 3 black ones in a row on the right.... relay is the middle one.... changed it out and cranks Everytime now... it was doing exactly what it was doing in the video....

Sorry for the really late reply but I'm not getting notifications from comments on my videos. I'm going to do an update but I did get my car fixed. The computer was getting a false reading from the fuel pump relay. It was telling the computer that it was not grounded. Some time it would start and some times it wouldn't. It's all good now. Thanks for the comment and sorry again for the late reply.

David Mower The computer was giving the fuel pump relay a false signal that it was not grounded. Some times it would start and some times it wouldn't. It took the mechanic 2 weeks to finally see it actually do it. He just ran a ground wire directly from the fuel pump relay and it's been working great. It's not a proper fix but as long as you do not leave the key on while the car is not running every thing will be ok. He said if you leave the key on and the car isn't running over time the fuel pump will burn out. Replacing the computer would be the correct fix. Also my battery was failing. It was almost 10 years old lol. It only cost $350 to fix every thing. A new computer would of been $1,000 alone. I plan on doing an updated video explaining this when I get the time. Had the same problem on a 2008 Charger, 3.5, crank, no start. Battery good, Starter good, all relays and fuses good. just stopped starting one day. NO codes either. If it was the Crank Sensor or fuel pump a code would show.
SOLUTION: Fuse box. Had a crack in a wire under the fuse box. Soldered the wire and it starts right up. Try swapping fuse boxes with someone who has a same year charger or 300 or grab one from a junk yard. Soldering the wire takes some work but its fixable.
This is also a problem with Chevy Trailblazers where a crack in the wire which connects fuses breaks and the truck wont start. Same situation.
If you get no codes but it cranks and doesn't start. check under that fuse box.

@@wilmercarrillo8392 i assume iits the fuse box that are in front but its a good idea to check the back box too ..
@P Diddy the wires are hard, solid wires under the fuse box. You need to pull the fuse box off to see them. They are not easily replaceable. Solider is the easiest method. Literally a 5 minute fix. There is a small crack in the wire somewhere under that fuse box that loses contact and it won’t start. Take the whole fuse box off and look underneath it. Press some of the wires and you will find one that has separated. Drop some solider on that

@@6.2_2ss CORRECT. This just happened to me. I switched the relay first and it was doing the same things but I figured mine was the fuel pump because I never heard it come on. Anyway, I switched the fuel pump out and the car crank right up. I switched the one under the back driver's seat.

First of all hop inside your vehicle..turn the switch half way but not to crank it just where lights come on on the dash board..while doing that listen very closely to hear for fuel pump sound only lasts bout 2 or 3 seconds..if you don't hear anything at all it's the fuel pump on driver side under back seat..if you do hear the sound it mm ay be the fuel relay switch

It needs antifreeze in there all Dodge Chargers will not crank over if it doesn't have antifreeze fluid in it
Lightning I put antifreeze and that same day it fucked up...
