Absolute mammoth of a job to access such a problematic part of most modern diesel engines! Great video and fix tho mate 👌🏼
It ain’t an easy fix but luckily it fixed the issue. Thank goodness 😬
Jeez, that thing looks really awkward to work on! I was looking at a newer movano to replace my aging Relay van, but as I work on my own vehicles I think I'll stick to what I know and buy a newer Relay 😂.
Great work BTW, it's a pleasure to watch someone as knowable as yourself work through these faults logically and not just rely on a code reader.....like I would 😁
Hi John, most modern vehicles are awkward & hard to work on nowadays. I glad you like my content and hopefully I will be able to keep it coming 🤞
Thank you John 🙏
Like the way you can keep upbeat on a nasty job like that , fault code was a bit missleading but your way of checking things very good , many people would have just replaced the solenoid , excellent video
I’m glad you liked it Peter, there is any point in getting upset with the awkward jobs. This is the profession we are in . There can be some nice ones too 🙂
Cheers Peter 🙏
Brilliant video, the egr coolers on the bi turbo's often get miss diagnosed
They are quite complicated and I for one still wouldn’t be very wise on them. But everyday is a school day 😬
Cheers P 🙏
Good job finding the fault, turbo solenoid circuit fault would make me think electric fault, rather than performance fault. Great diag mate
I did think that also Matt & done quite a bit of circuit testing that I edited out due to finding nothing wrong. The best I can make out is when the solenoid was actuated and there was no change in the conditions due to little or no vacuum, the ECU thought the solenoid/wiring might have been at fault. I don’t think I’ll ever understand some of the stuff I see 🤷🏼♂️
Thank you Matt 😉 & that just reminds me I have a video of yours to watch 🙂
A great video, what a nightmare job. Fair to ya great content.
Thank you Niall 🙏🙏👍
Nic video sir .good information sir👍❤
Thank you 🙏
nice video peter. i say some people working on this van know that was a nasty job to do. i dont know why the car makers.. make it so damm had to get to at the egr valve because they give so much to trouble. very good watch do,,,,,,
Wouldn’t you wonder why the don’t put serviceable parts in somewhat easy to access places 🤦♂️
I will never know Paddy 😉👍
Hi great video love the time taking to make a proper diagnosis, could you tell me what symptoms that van was giving other than the check engine light, I’ve one giving similar trouble but with spending a lot more money I can’t pin point wether it’s a bad egr cooler or bad head gasket as a result of the egr cooler been bad for a long time as the van was driven with a check injection light for a long time for another smaller issue that wasn’t effecting it leading to the egr cooler been bad been missed, now it’s got hard to start and there’s Co2 in the bottle, but the bad egr can do the same thing
Is it possible to by pass the egr cooler?
Or I wonder if the exhaust was disconnected as close to the manifold as possible to reduce the exhaust pressure, would that make it easier to prove or disprove head gasket or egr cooler 🤔🤔
Bugger of a job and a snapped bolt to add and you still stay upbeat. For that alone i salute you sir. I would assume that must be a common part to change if the cooler blocks up eventually with the high milage these vans cover. ?
First one I’ve done Chris, but I must say it is an awkward thing to change. It is a stretch to get at every bolt, Fingers crossed I won’t see another one for a while 😬😉
@@kennedysgarage3281 good job you don't have a big beer belly then or you never have reached in far enough lol
@@the_retired_mechanic that is getting a bit bigger too as the years go by 😂😂
How many hours did you have in that job Peter what a swine to do I’ve only got short arms myself so think I would have ended up removing the whole front. Brilliant diagnosis by the way very impressive 👍
Every bolt at the back is quite a stretch to get at & it took me around 5 hrs to do so I had my week’s exercise done by the end of it 😂😂
Enjoy the weekend Kevin 😉👍
Not dven rekated to my vehicle but a great watch ..i am aboit to change out my oil cooler but given my grian noises (mostly at lower speed) intermittent im thinking the egr (longest 1 ), isnt operating tidy or opening at all ..meaning more frequent regens and interkittekt boost
Hi Kev, the coolers do block and it is well worth cleaning. It not too bad to get at, submerge it a good chemical and then send hot pressure wash through. It comes up spic & span 😉👍👍
@kennedysgarage3281 I'm thinking as they get blocked I can get a cleaned 1 for 69 quid straight swap ..I'm gonna change out oil cooler or at least change oil to ..2 new injectors going in thus month (help with regens hopefully - to often ) ..thanks buddy ..I'll then clean my original for a future swap again..looks simple enough thanks very much mucka top man /mechanic
@kennedysgarage3281 oh and I get the odd groan noises maybe it's gasses trying to pass ..occasionally she flies
@@kevinhancock4064 😉🙏🙏🙏
THINK I NEED THIS BASTARD THING CHANGING AS I HAD CHECK EMISSIONS COME UP ON DASH AND I HAD NO COOLANT IN THE BOTTLE READ SOMEWHERE THAT THESE CRACK AND lose ALL YOUR COOLANT INTO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ERROR CODE WAS P24a7 and P24a8 im dreading the bill looks really complicated to do
It isn’t the easiest repair to do 😬😬😬
I think it was around €1000 or so from memory
