    I'm the guy that mentioned they were the same transmissions in your first ride video but no worries at all! Great video and info to pass info along to people! I'm actually not a fan of the wide ratio (at least on a 2 stroke for single track) and actually bought a 23 TC 250 to avoid it. I had an 11 300 XC and still have a 18 250 XC-W and really prefer the 11-22 XC trans. When I saw the new 23 XC ratios that are actually a wider spread than the 11-23 XC-W(although the 1-2 gap is a touch tighter which is nice) I decided to try the moto bike/trans. I don't really mind the low 1st on the W but hate the 1-2 gap and the 2-3 gap isn't great either. Always fighting with 1-2 on my 18. The 250 makes it worse as well but I just like 250s better. I only ride mountain single track and absolutely love this 23 and the close ratio 5 speed (geared down on the countershaft sprocket).

    The new TBI fuel injection system has two injectors, like the TPI system, but with TBI they have different jobs. One is dedicated to idle and low speed operation, the other is for power. They are also located in different positions in the throttle body. This way the fuel mixture can be more accurately controlled in a variety of demand conditions. Cold starting behavior is also said to be improved. For those of us who ride year round in very cold weather this is good news. The TPI bikes would cold seize, even with careful warm up because the cold mix oil was injected against the reed block and wouldn’t penetrate properly until the motor was warm. There was no gasoline injected with the mix oil to act as a solvent and dilute it when cold and coagulated. TBI has an injector located on each side of the reed cage. It will be interesting to see if average fuel economy improves with the new system. I bet it will due to the newfound efficiencies.

    It's gotta be all down to the mapping now. the tuning between that and the electronic PV must give it the feel different. There is a new map as of June for the XC. Cleans up the rich low end.

  • @pearsth

    This may be a silly explanation for the sprockets, but having a 13/45 to start gives you more "range" in larger sprockets to go up teeth for more low end pop on the XC-W. It is a minor detail and sure it is easy to drop a tooth up front, but for W owners it seems like they made it easier for them. My first KTM was an mid-2000's 450 EXC with a 14 up front and one of the things I did was drop the front sprocket to a 13.

    Yes Jeff I had the new map installed in my ‘23 300xc Saturday , Grand Junction Ktm did it. I call the service department and they new about it. As I was told the when they hook up to the ktm network it shows a “mandatory” software update. I’m not sure there is a map number.
    Any the bike is definitely leaner. Cleaner off the bottom and I felt like I had to stop and clean it out (loading up). Nice improvement.
    By the way great video and explanation as usual! Enjoyed your channel ever since you started it!

    I can’t speak to the KTM as I have a Husky but we had some fueling issues with my 23 TX300. We tore throttle body apart the other day and we swapped injectors with a 24 TX300. We noticed the injectors were significantly different between the 2 years. 23’s have 4 nozzles in the center of the injector and the 24’s have 6 or 8 spray nozzles around the perimeter.
    We also hooked the bike up to KTM’s computer and it did an ecu update and 2 days later there was another update.
    It seems there are changes happening far faster than any of the dealers even know about.

    Makes sense. You would want a smaller sprocket in the rear of the XCW for hard Enduro. Less likely to catch on a rock. But it causes more friction to have a smaller, sprocket upfront and where in tear.

    Perhaps the 14 on the xc is due to the new frame and c-shaft position and it might be a factor in the chain torque or lack thereof. I don't know if they have moved the c-shaft on the W but maybe Jeff can tell us if there is a difference on how each bike loads the rear tire and how much squat they have between them.

    I think this is the least amount of complaints I've heard from Jeff on a new bike. That's pretty impressive. I would love to buy one but since I live in California and dirt bikes destroy the environment, I cannot be awarded a sticker. • @Johnr37us
    @Johnr37us Рік тому +1

    If I remember right, I think the xcw has six less horsepower. Also after 30 KTM‘s, I actually bought a 2020 300 because I wanted oil injection and the 2020 KTM 300s FI had a few bugs in some bikes for my liking and for a bike that cost over 10k and with my luck I would have gotten one of the bad ones and my local dealers is about useless.Also Beta changed the rod length on the 2022 300s and the RR gets the longer stroke and have more hit. Now my 2020 has the same long stroke rod and it does very well and has good low end . And I’m also tall and the Suspension stock was a disaster, but once I got it revealed for my weight and added new springs and put my handlebars up to the nosebleed section it’s fine now, and you think people sometimes complain about Jeff…well most people would die if they seen how high I keep my bars and I even had to have a hydraulic clutch hose made that was 6 inches longer than stock to get it to work but it works for me. My attack position is standing straight up.
