  • In this video, in preparation for an 'up-plate' of the weight limit, I am fitting double leaf springs on the rear suspension. the leaf springs came from Midland Road Springs Ltd and here is a link if interested: www.ebay.co.uk...
    A video on the up-plate will follow soon.

    Cheers mate… great video, just enough detail to convince me not to do it my self, but at least I fully understand what is involved now and can do little things like dropping my water tanks before I take it somewhere to have it done, maybe cut down on the labour costs.
    Thanks again looking forward to watching more.😊

    My H3L4 ambulance i'm converting is rated at 4.1 tonne and it doesn't have leaf springs in the rear. It has sway bars and airbags only. I do like my set of ratchet spanners. They make life so easy, especially if they have a flexi head on the ratchet side.

    • @wiltshirecustomcamper7203
      @wiltshirecustomcamper7203  2 роки тому +1

      Sounds like the ambulance was kitted out for both weight and a comfy ride so very lucky. Yes, i must improve on my 'screwfix' set I got and get all the odd sizes as well. the 14mm, 16mm, 18mm etc. Every time my wife's Fiat 500 needs attention, I curse the Italians for every bolt being 16mm or 18mm! why cant they use 13, 17 and 19 like everybody else.....

    Hi, those bump stops are actually spring assistors designed to take some of the weight on your particular van.

    Hi, Thank you for your informative video. It has been very useful to me as the rear springs on my Ducato need replacing too.
    I notice that you have corrugated/flexible blue fresh water pipe-I have not been able to source any(searching on the internet), can you share details of where you got your pipe from,please?

    Great video. This is a mod I am considering. I noticed that you also fitted airbags. What drove you to make both mods? I was under the impression that you could up-rate just with airbags. I am struggling to remove the bump-stops as you did and wondering if I should just cut my losses and do the springs instead. Im not up-rating but my van is near max payload and sways around a lot on the bends

    • @wiltshirecustomcamper7203
      @wiltshirecustomcamper7203  2 роки тому

      I had bought the airbags first but then decided to do the leaf springs aswell as not too expensive for what they are really and the ride is much better now. I don't get the 'lean' going around corners that i did with the OEM springs. if you have not already watched already, my airbag video shows how I had to tackle the bump stops....bloody things!

      no sorry, not supplied to me at the time so I went with the 'murder tight on the breaker bar' method without anything else to go on. please dont copy that though, that was an option that worked for me.

    How much did the double leaf springs raise your van ?

    • @wiltshirecustomcamper7203
      @wiltshirecustomcamper7203  2 роки тому

      To be fair, it didn't as I already had the air suspension fitted but the double leaf springs gave additional stability and allowed for my up-plate which is coming in a video soon.

      copied what i saw in another video about changing leaf springs and they said to re-tighten once on the ground in case it moves at all when loaded. hope that helps.

    great video, ive just completed my van yesterday but im not putting it on the road until next month, did you have your van weighed ? is that whats made you want to upgrade it ? im hoping mine hasnt gone over 3.5 ton :/

    • @wiltshirecustomcamper7203
      @wiltshirecustomcamper7203  2 роки тому +1

      A bold statement for sure to say you have finished? is a van ever truly finished? on the weight front, I have not weighed it as scared to do it to be honest. had my MOT in Jan and the combined weight from the brake test rolling road was 3.4t. now it is not an exact science of course as the two axles are weighed separately during the brake test, but it was enough for me to know and decide that an up-plate was going to be required. they reckon I could go to 4.5t which would be great, will wait and see how it pans out and then make a video on it.

    • @bwye
      @bwye 2 роки тому

      Interesting that you can go to 4.5t 🤔 Are the axle weights on the van's 'plate' the maximum without the suspension mods..? Mine add up to 3850kg. Presumably the maximum on the 'plate' is primarily based on suspension spec rather than the actual axel max itself..? Great vid btw..🙄

    • @wiltshirecustomcamper7203

      @@wiltshirecustomcamper7203 Fantastic great series and lots of food for thought, was scared in case I had missed the video on the up plating, really interested on trying to get a pop top fitted to one of these, I see Auto Trail and Adria have models with this but at a high cost obviously. It would add another dimension and save a lot of space also would make room for my motorbike hence the interest in up plating. Keep up the good work.

    Hi there, followed your vid initially on air bags, going in for its MOT in a couple of weeks, I’m going take it to a weigh bridge after. How long did it take you to do it and how much did you pay for the leaf springs, thank you steve

    • @wiltshirecustomcamper7203
      @wiltshirecustomcamper7203  2 роки тому

      If I remember I linked to the supplier in the video for current prices, it was around £300 if I recall. lots of choices on ebay. It took me a day to do with no experience of doing it before. a mechanic would probably clock this at 2-3 hours work. out of the airbags and leaf springs, the hardest and longest part is those damned bumpstops. with my up-plate I am now running at 4600kg . video on that coming soon.
