Think the main reasons Caz survived falling off the rig trying to save Gregor were because a) churning water has much lower surface tension than standing water, resulting in a softer impact, and b) Brodie and Douglas were probably already working right next to where Caz went in, giving them enough time to fish him out and get him dry and warm before hypothermia had a chance to set in.
The fact that he drove all air out of his lungs is actually a point in his favor, too. When falling from a great hight and plunging into the water, still having any air means it gets knocked out and forces the airway open... just in time to get swamped with seawater. However, if a person expended all air and hits freezing cold water, they go into shock without inhaling, and the body keeps water out of the lungs by keeping full constriction of the muscles around the ribs and the diaphram pressing up under the lungs; minimizing the chance of a secondary infection causing phnamonia or heart failure immediately after said massive physical shock Limp bodies are also much better at floating than a thrashing body, all remaining oxygen getting sent to the brain and heart to keep the lights on in hopes of rescue and recovery. Some folk have been recovered alive after an hour unconcious in freezing waters. The resiliance of the body is a freakin wonder, for sure.
Finished this game 3 times. It just fascinated me, as a fellow Scotsman the attraction is obvious on the surface but the horror subject matter, the setting and the characters were just amazing I had to go back for more.
rewatching this playthrough for the second time in two weeks and man. the intro really hits different after seeing where everything goes... this game is heartbreaking
I watched another UA-camr play this then saw someone recommend your playthrough. I was immediately like “a Scot playing this?! Fuck yeah!” (Random side note: fuck yeah, join your union!)
Your happiness over the accents is infectious - I’m excited to watch more of this and learn more about the game (as for the guy with the English accent using Scots words, reckon he’s an english guy who moved up to Scotland or lives there? Sometimes people pick up words from those around them?)
I live in Northumberland, and we're basically a hybrid of the English and the Scots (we've been swung between both's control for centuries) we often use a mix of Scots and English language, especially in the more northern parts of the county. There's also a large Scottish population here, so more modern Scots has rubbed off on us to some extent too. Not saying he's Northumbrian, but it's just a potential possibility or factor.
The fact that this game has so much representation for the gaelic language family makes my heart happy. Some of my favorite accents, the cursing has impact, softly its melodic, loud its brash, but more than anything it sounds like family. Like how PEOPLE talk, day to day. I hear Scottish or Irish and hear someone who would call me brother if I showed up for them, and I would gladly do the same if they came when I was in trouble. Idk why this flavor of language gives me that vibe, just subjective feels
Saw an American girl play through this halfway and then got the game myself. As an Englishman I was very happy and impressed to hear a ton of genuine Scots doing great voice work. Excellent to see the rest of the UK get the spotlight for a change. Very different from the usual Yank hero/English bad guy we often get in games and the 1975 setting (3 years before I was born) is refreshing; I vaguely remember the style of some places in the early-mid 80s being very similar. I played this from start to finish on Game Pass, then went and bought it on Steam because I was so impressed that I felt that I needed to pay for it (not sure if that's a good show of character or not? lol) and to get the achievements. The writing for this game is great and consistent, the score is unsettling and subtle and the designs are all as good as the voice acting, IMO. People complained that it was a bit short and linear but TBH to me it's an interactive story, not an adventure game, and it does that really well. I got the gist of some of the Scottish words but...doh? Bahookie? Bampot? Clatty (I assume this is similar to gobby)? Mair? And yeah, I also hated Addir on sight, lol. I can't help but think that Caz might have possibly kept his job if he'd not been so gobby to Rennick, not that it mattered. Very much enjoyed watching a Scotsman enjoying a game voiced by countrymen. Nice work here, subbed!
Thanks so much for the lovely comment! Glad you enjoyed the game so much and appreciate you watching this playthrough and subbing too! For some Scots translation: Bahookie = arse Bampot = Nutter/Headcase You're spot on with Clatty and I'd need the context for 'Mair' as it can be quite an archaic word for officer of the law/courts or could just be 'More'
I never was aware how different the Scottish & English accents were!!! This game is so awesome... I play alot of Grand strategy games and have played as UK (Vic 2/3) and England (EU3/4)... But this game is so good
Just finished this episode! I absolutely love it so far and your commentary definitely makes it less nailbiting for me (esp for the water tank portion - I’m glad you didn’t get killed by a man named Gibbo). This game really knows how to set up fear and high stakes without huge jumpscares (granted this is episode one 😅)
So glad to be seeing this on a playthrough - I first watched you playing Hollowbody and found that video thoroughly enjoyable, earned a subscribe from me!
Nothing sexier than a Scottish accent imho; when I was in my 20's I danced with a guy twice my age on shore leave from the Scottish Navy in Seattle, just so I could listen to him talk longer LOL
An english guy saying ach or cannae isn't necessarily inaccurate, although canna should have been used there. Cannae is more likely in the obvious, such as newcastle. Perhaps more interesting is that Dagleish and McLurg had english accents. Pretty sure in the 70s everyone on a rig would be scottish in aberdeen. On the xmas menu, perkins are scots spiced oat biscuits. ps I checked and the Make Britain Great Again slogan at the start is legit, the game shows an official NF poster from the 1970s. lol
It’s so satisfying to watch actual Scots play this game! I don’t know why it makes me feel so good! I’m a new subscriber now because this is making my day!
A parasite from prehistoric times vs. The working class Scotts.
I love the "Oof" the moment he sees the UK flag in Addair's room lmao.
Ganked by Gibbo: A Scottish Romance Story
8:06 I just realised that that final on the darts is a bit of foreshadowing

27:44 - 27:55 It's like a game of telephone between you and Caz. Haha, it seems they really did get the Scottish dialogue right!
Rennick: I run a tight ship *ship is literally falling apart*
Drill got penetrative... and the hole is loose.
i suspect the addair hate group will have many proud members

at least you didn't get killed by a man called Gibbo

Thanks for watching! Someone recommended my playthrough elsewhere? That's super cool!

Aye, definitely been around Scottish folk to pick up some Scots, it's a really nice touch!

@@AyeforScotland Thanks mate :]
First minute of the game, and the VA work is already phenomenal. Love it!
What a phenomenal game.. It hit so many important horror factors - emotion, suspense and swearing.. 🤬 😊
Only a minute in and already subscribed.
I guess the Scots just have a natural advantage to charisma.
I think you mean “CharrrrRisma” 😂 I love the R’s.
I never was aware how different the Scottish & English accents were!!! This game is so awesome... I play alot of Grand strategy games and have played as UK (Vic 2/3) and England (EU3/4)... But this game is so good
Hell yeah as soon as I saw the title of this video I had to see it. Must be like a warm hug to play this as a Scot. Even with all the horror :P
something about this puts me in mind of STRAY & i love it
This was fantastic! This intro is already so tense and intriguing I can't wait to uncover more next time.
I've been so excited about this game! Thanks for sharing!
It is everything I wanted it to be!

Thanks so much! Glad you're enjoying them!
I saw a short of you saying what was the best Scottish voice acting in this game and I said Scottish person playing this game yah I have to see
Not usually interested in this type of game, but this one has me quite riveted.
Nothing sexier than a Scottish accent imho; when I was in my 20's I danced with a guy twice my age on shore leave from the Scottish Navy in Seattle, just so I could listen to him talk longer LOL
Thanks!
Woah Joel, this is my first ever Superthanks, thanks so much!
@@AyeforScotland seriously! Wow. I'm happy to be the 1rst. GG!
I guess 2 of your videos is too much. My internal monolog's gone Scottish. As long as my outside voice doesn't I should be fine lol

I know they hadn't invented safety yet back i nthe 70s but still, that oil rig is barely together
I _hate_ when your vision goes all blotchy. Such a bad vibe.
I mean if I encountered maddening Eldritch horrors beyond my human comprehension then I don’t think my vision will be holding up too well either
Also I love how you guys roll your “R”’s. I hate Rennick but one of my favorite lines is hearing him say “Get off my rrrRRig!” 😂😂😂
We do love a good 'R' roll!
