I will leave them in my gloves until the next time that I use them. If cedar shoe tree's work for shoes, I thought they could also work with my boxing gloves - and so far so good.

I've had just about every brand except Winning and Grant over the last 18 years. None of them have lasted me more than 1 year. A few of them have had the shell wear out or tear. For the most part the padding breaks down. I put in maybe 10-12 hours or training per week. I do a lot of bag work and I think that's what breaks them down the most. I've paid twice as much for a pair of gloves and they don't last twice as long. I'm not really sure the most economical route, but I don't think I'll be investing in a $400 pair of gloves.

I just bought some fairtex and breaking them in now but I do like the way they feel also, those run you a little more than the other 3 I mentioned. All great gloves though especially for beginners.
I agree with stanky gear and stanky people in general. I dreaded clinching with a sparring partner’s stank ass gloves and stank ass wraps they don’t wash for weeks. That smell stuck with my face, body, and shirt for the entire night. I hit him extra hard for that. Great video!!
I have a few pairs. I use yokkao 10oz for daily training (work/pad work) Best gloves I’ve ever used. Might bump up to 12oz for next pair. For sparring I rotate between two 14oz pairs, funny enough neither of em Muay Thai gloves. Ones Pro Boxing Supplies and the other Everlast, but a nicer pair with the most comfortable wrist support ever.
Had a lot of brands over the years, but I swear by Rivals Guerrero now. Training three times a week for two years with them, not one quality issue and still great padding.
Best pair of kickboxing gloves i have had were Twins gloves, i used them for 2 years and my little brother used them for 2 years and they are still in good condition. They are expensive but i bought venum gloves and they are starting to break down after 6 months of kickboxing training.
I bought Windy gloves because every pair of gloves I've owned have ripped apart within a year. Love the Twins Specials for their protection but they fell apart on me too. I clean and condition my gloves constantly but I struggle to keep a pair of gloves in good condition. I'm a bigger guy though and love to lay into my punches. Actually about to order some leather wax because my gloves are kind of stripped bare from body hooks rn. Windy has lasted the longest so far but I do miss my big fluffy Twin Specials.
I use a boot drier for my gloves. Works perfect and never had a smelly glove. It's the moisture that sits in them that makes them stink. If you keep them dry, bacteria can't grow, and they'll smell fine.
Thanks for the guide - definitely one of the most informative videos out there. I'm an MMA newbie, and I'm planning on getting two new pairs of gloves, one for training and one for sparring. I'm thinking of a budget of $300, so I thought I would get a pair of Reyes/Hayabusa gloves and a pair of Twins/Fairtex gloves. Which pair do you think I should invest more in - the training pair or the sparring pair? At first I was going to go for a pair of Reyes 16oz gloves for sparring, but then I realized that I would be using it a lot less than my training pair, which led me to consider whether I should go for 10oz Reyes gloves for training, and a cheaper 16oz pair for sparring. Thanks again!
definetley invest more in a training glove. A quality glove that will last, you will hit the bag and mitts more than you spar. for example for every 8 round sparring session that I have, I will have hit the bag leading up to sparring day atleast 70 rounds. My opinion on a good glove to get for training is the 16oz Fly X velcro or laceup gloves. They are very protective on your hands, They offer good feedbag on the bag, they open good in the palms like muay thai gloves, more comfortable than winning and are very durable. Right now you can get them around $190 on the official Fly UK website(they ship to the us). As for your sparring glove I would say Get yourself a 2nd pair of the fly x gloves in a 16oz as well. I know the two gloves would come out to about $400 but In my opinion theyre worth splurging the extra 100 outside your budget
I've been using a 14oz pair of Venum Elites for 3 years! Definitely overdue for new ones, I want to invest in Hayabusa gloves but debating if I should go with a 12oz or 14oz...I spar but not nearly as much as I do bag/pad work. I always wrap and I have tiny hands...any advice?
hmm- what do you weigh? If you are smaller (under 130 lbs) I think you can get away with 12 oz, but would still be weary sparring with those. Wouldn’t want to injure my partners. 🙇🏻♂️
Thanks! Been looking to buy my 2nd pair of gloves and the variety of selection is a lot to process as a newbie. I'll probably go with Twins 10 oz for bag/pad work. Oss
Hey there! Hope the video helped- twins 10 oz are great for that purposes! We used to use that size and brand for competition and they always felt great on my hands, but never felt so great on my face 🥴
You are right. I had winning and they don't get stinky compared to other gloves. Japanese really took their time doing their research. Maybe they use nylon because it is stiffer than other gloves that use polyester satin lining
Reyes is a knockout artist's glove. They're made to optimize the connection of your punches and the wrist padding moves weight from the fist to the wrist while also giving extra wrist support for a solid punch. I love Reyes gloves and twins gloves. Twins Special really is top notch stuff
@@thaiboxinginstitute Thai style gloves are made to be able to open up your hands for technical clinch work so that you can grab the parts that need to be manipulated when working the clinch to control your opponent and set up the knees, elbows, and sweeps.
Hello Coach Vik! Just to clarify, you primarily use the Cleto Reyes for boxing AND muay thai? I'm in the market to get either a pair of Cleto Reyes or Fairtex as my primary MT sparring + bag work glove and then in a few months, getting the same glove for sparring only (and keep a rotation of old sparring glove becomes training glove, get new sparring glove, etc). Wanted to get your input on this, thanks!
Hey Ben! Yes I do use the cletos for both Muay Thai AND boxing and I alternate between winnings and the reyes for sparring. You sound like you got a good plan, and you can always try a different brand the second purchase around. Good luck and keep me posted!
@@thaiboxinginstitute I was glove shopping and decided to go with the lace up Cleto Reyes lace up gloves. This will be my 3rd pair in three years. Hi I just seen your video great video by the way I just enrolled my son in Muay Thai for a 2 year contract he’s 12 I don’t like the gloves the gym gave us what you recommend and what oz
Damnnn I came to this video too late I just bought a pair of everlast gloves to start my first beginner kickboxing lessons for this month 😅😅😅 next time I buy a pair of gloves I'll refer back to this video!
All good man, as long as you got yourself a pair of gloves. Hopefully you enjoy the sport enough to invest in some more equipment. Congrats on the start your journey!
The power locks are the only everlast I would recommend if you are dead set on that brand or if choices are limited, but for that price range I prefer a different brand. Overall I’m sure you’ll be ok! congrats on the purchase and I hope you enjoy them 👊
I am somewhere 200lbs, currently using 12oz TopKings - currently I am deciding, if to get 10oz Fairtex for bag work (improved feel), or 16oz for sparing (I already have Venum 14oz). What would you recommend?
Hello Coach Vik! I am just starting with Muay Thai and I would like to buy a pair or gloves from the middle price range, because I think I will stick to this sport for some time. Do you know anything about Leone gloves? I think it's an Italian brand and since I live here these are also easy to get here. Do you know if these are a good investment? Also, thanks a lot for this video!
@@BiggCliph QA issues for sure, namely with the velcro. I would think the price point would be cause for tighter QA but that doesn't seem to be the case unfortunately.
I'm really interested in investing in a Winning pair just for quality I've heard. Is there a model that's more suited for Muay Thai clinchwork/blocking and how would you rate the velcro strap protection of your hands and wrists for heavy bag work? Thank you for sharing this with us!
For muay thai would you go for the cleto/winning if money wasn’t a factor or would you stick to twins? Also, what would you recommend for sparring gloves because I hear cletos are not ideal for it since they’re puncher gloves?
cletos are still a good choice! And I always lean towards to using winning when I can but I understand that choice isn’t an option for everyone. I still use a pair of twins bag gloves whenever I can
Thanks for watching! i use ringside or title boxing 180 inches semi-elastic hand wraps. I also recommend Meister hand wraps that you get through Amazon. Same length and material as the other I suggested (180 inches and semi-elastic). We have a hand wrap video in our channel where I talk about different hand wraps and how i teach people to wraps their hands.
After trying many brands, can’t over-emphasize the importance of banging on a bag if one has the chance before committing to buying, if at all possible. Clarifies the reputations, hype, and individual preferences instantly, as well as buyer’s remorse. Yeah, after LOTS of injuries, cortisone, and bracing, yup “investments” for sure. Do you condition your leather? How?
@@bladeimm indeed I do condition my gloves. I use leather honey once a year seems to help. I totally ruined my last pair of winnings because I didn’t condition the leather and all the sweat dried out the gloves and caused tears 😭
What do you think about RDX gloves for a beginner? I was thinking about getting a pair of fairtex bgv16. But I feel as if it’s too early to invest so heavily. 16oz for all training.
hey- Thanks for watching and appreciate the feedback! don't have too much experience with rival gloves but do like their focus mitts. I think they make good equipment IMO.
I'm going to buy my first thai gloves this week. I'm still can't decide which should I take. I've got really small hands and wrist, and thinking about Twins or Top King. What you think about Top King? And for you which are better?
What’s the gloves that have a free thumb (all fingers are still in the actual glove but the thumb isn’t stuck to the index finger, if you don’t know what I mean look at a generic boxing glove and you notice that the thumb is stuck). The gloves I’m on about are good for pad work and also better for clinching whilst having a light spar.
Been trying to do research for my first pair of gloves but there are so many different opinions. I’ve heard mixed opinions about Venum. Heard good things about Hayabusa but I don’t know just how good they are. You said Fairtex and Twins are good but in the classes I take they tend to just stick to kickboxing so I don’t think I need the clenching capabilities that these gloves provide for Muay Thai fighters. Should I just stick to boxing gloves like yahabusa?
TBH i think you're good with the hayabusa's for kickboxing style classes. You are correct in not needing so much wrist flexibility for those types of classes.
I've been hearing they accommodate fighters with large hands well so I'm trying my first pair later today. What was it about their gloves that had you staying away? (if you can jot note it) Thanks for getting back to me and great video btw
@@lyledeporiss5937 I think the quality of Velcro isn’t that great and aesthetically they can be a bit much but let me know what you think!! Thanks for watching man, much appreciated!
@@thaiboxinginstitute I just finished trying them on then did a light bag workout and even just when I tried them on I could pretty much tell I was going to have to return them. The quality of the leather and the stitching was amazing but the thumb placement for me isn't good at all. It's protected but I'm stuck in giving a thumbs up position. I also have a lot of meat on the part of my palm connecting to my thumb and that piping locking the thumb in place cut my circulation way too hard. Sucks, I would have liked to try using them with wraps because there was actually room and would have liked to catch some kicks with that foam strip protection on the outer palm because it felt nice. I agree the Velcro left a lot to be desired and for me the strap is too rigid. Looking forward to any other videos you put out
Is the twins good for boxing only instead of muay thai? My dad bought me my first pair of boxing gloves which are these 12oz twins but i saw they’re made for muay thai only
my venum boxing gloves broke in half a year. Now I want to buy a new one. I would prefer to buy Cleto Reyes, but it is expensive for me. What should I think about? Twins in bgvl3 or Fairtex bgv1?Venum was very soft ..Can you help? I am 180 cm tall and 74 kg. I have 4 training sessions a week, bagging, sparring, trainings. Thank you
Yo! Thanks for watching. Where do you live? If you can get authentic Twins products then i would recommend buying two pairs of their gloves if you can afford it. One for training and one for sparring. Otherwise I would recommend Fairtex gloves. The cleto's are great but if it's outside of your budget then maybe splitting the cost for two pairs of gloves might be the wiser choice.

16 oz for sure for sparring, everything else can be done with less weight but doesn’t hurt to train in heavier gloves. Supposedly it helps develop hand speed but have to see the data that backs up the claim so it could just be boxing lore lol

They are expensive but i bought venum gloves and they are starting to break down after 6 months of kickboxing training.
Yes- I dont recommend venum equipment for that reason

@@thaiboxinginstitute absolutely. It was very informative and beneficial
Windy is a good brand just hard to find here in the US. Where'd ya pick them up from?

I use a boot drier for my gloves. Works perfect and never had a smelly glove. It's the moisture that sits in them that makes them stink. If you keep them dry, bacteria can't grow, and they'll smell fine.

I loved those everlast gloves because it fit my smaller hands

Dam this is the most helpful video I've seen on UA-cam for this. Thanks for the advice!
Thank YOU for watching and glad to hear it was helpful!
Hey- thanks for watching aiden! def go for some 10 oz Reyes and a more affordable pair for sparring. Good luck on the purchase and training!
definetley invest more in a training glove.
@@thaiboxinginstitute Hover around 116-120, I guess I can buy cheaper sparring gloves
@@aneczka413 Always a good idea to have a spar set of bigger gloves! also a good excuse to add to the collection!!!

You are right. I had winning and they don't get stinky compared to other gloves. Japanese really took their time doing their research.
Maybe they use nylon because it is stiffer than other gloves that use polyester satin lining
100% agreed. The only thing that starts to smell a bit are the laces but my winnings still after many years of use still dont stink.
@@thaiboxinginstitute maybe they use a special lining made of nylon with alumunium.

So is hayabusa no good ? I’ve been using the T3s and S4 and notice a lot of people at both my boxing and Muay Thai gym using them
I believe there are better choices for the price one pays for hayabusa
Reyes is a knockout artist's glove. They're made to optimize the connection of your punches and the wrist padding moves weight from the fist to the wrist while also giving extra wrist support for a solid punch. I love Reyes gloves and twins gloves. Twins Special really is top notch stuff
Great explanation man, appreciate it!

Hey!! Thanks for watching and congrats on your child starting their journey with the sport. How much do they weigh and how tall are they?
Damnnn I came to this video too late I just bought a pair of everlast gloves to start my first beginner kickboxing lessons for this month 😅😅😅 next time I buy a pair of gloves I'll refer back to this video!
All good man, as long as you got yourself a pair of gloves. Hopefully you enjoy the sport enough to invest in some more equipment. Congrats on the start your journey!
I ordered a pair of Everlast powerlocks 2R 14oz before seeing this video so I hope they'll still be okay 😅
The power locks are the only everlast I would recommend if you are dead set on that brand or if choices are limited, but for that price range I prefer a different brand. Overall I’m sure you’ll be ok! congrats on the purchase and I hope you enjoy them 👊
lol
Thanks great vid! I went with the fairtex made in Thailand not made in china hayabusa lol
I am somewhere 200lbs, currently using 12oz TopKings - currently I am deciding, if to get 10oz Fairtex for bag work (improved feel), or 16oz for sparing (I already have Venum 14oz). What would you recommend?
16 oz fairtex for sparring. for sure!
Leone makes great equipment. I'm a fan of their shorts and gloves although its difficult to get that brand here in the US.
What do you think of Hayabusa?

I'm really interested in investing in a Winning pair just for quality I've heard. Is there a model that's more suited for Muay Thai clinchwork/blocking and how would you rate the velcro strap protection of your hands and wrists for heavy bag work? Thank you for sharing this with us!
velcro art the best and work excellent for clinching since the glove isn't built like standard boxing gloves that have extra padding along the wrist.
Aguante Tragedy carajo. I always play d beat crust at my classes, and my students started to listened to it.
ariba los punx!
I still use a pair of twins bag gloves whenever I can
Thanks a lot for this great video. Do you have any recommendation concerning hand wraps for muay thaï please?
Thanks for watching! i use ringside or title boxing 180 inches semi-elastic hand wraps. I also recommend Meister hand wraps that you get through Amazon.

Hey man! What do you think about Rival gloves? And thanks for the great vid!
hey- Thanks for watching and appreciate the feedback! don't have too much experience with rival gloves but do like their focus mitts. I think they make good equipment IMO.
I'm going to buy my first thai gloves this week. I'm still can't decide which should I take. I've got really small hands and wrist, and thinking about Twins or Top King. What you think about Top King? And for you which are better?
Top king is good! I think they’re easier to get too.
What’s the gloves that have a free thumb (all fingers are still in the actual glove but the thumb isn’t stuck to the index finger, if you don’t know what I mean look at a generic boxing glove and you notice that the thumb is stuck).
The gloves I’m on about are good for pad work and also better for clinching whilst having a light spar.
do you mean like in the style of bag gloves? where the whole thumb is detached?
Where can I find authentic Twins gloves?
