    uggggh, yeah, I got "bit" recently, first time in 10+ years. I tested similar to you. I should always use a "glow tester".

    The switch on neutral was acceptable 40 years or so ago.how old are these hangers? You can always carry a volt stick, you will not know the volts just that they exist. Capacitors will build up a charge if to close to a main. Lesson over look out my friend I like your channel / need your channel.

    Always, ALWAYS cut power at the breaker before messing with wiring. I'll even lock my breaker box once I cut it off.

      As I mentioned in the video, I had no idea where the breakers were.

    Go for the breaker and do the right thing, anything less leaves room for catastrophe. I enjoy watching your videos and attention to detail from Kitchener.

      Fix it, or call the pros, the life you save may not be your own.

      I would have...but a) didn't know where the breaker was, and b) even if I did, it was inside a locked area. I have since found them however, and...well, locked doors don't stop someone determined. :) So it won't happen again.

      @wwsoapbox6921 yeah...I have it on the list, it's just not exactly at the top of my priority at the moment. :)

    Measure it out and buy some THHN - ~ 54¢/ft @ HD or swing by an electrician's shop and beg an end of roll from them. Trade a cold beer for it.

    if you flip the switch off then on quickly, it should change it from constant on to motion sensing. that's how most of them work anyway.

    I treat as hot even though I think there cold, good thing as yeas ago working on a box that had more than one circuit in it. I had turned off the one ( I thought) I was working on; as I hooked up the last wire the light came on....that was a wow.

    wrap the wire with black tape to indicate hot. nothing like a jolt to wake you up!

    • @CanardBoulevard
      @CanardBoulevard  3 місяці тому

      It's not that the wire is incorrect. The hot wire is black, the neutral is white. It's that the hot wire is hot even when the switch is off - the switch is incorrectly switching the neutral.

    Scott, its only 110V, shake it off and get on with the job. 110 is known as a attention getter.😁
