  • In this film I show how I construct the gun-belt, make the hammered brass buckle, and complete the finished gun rig.
    Here’s a link to the listing on my website where you can order a custom made Clint Eastwood Walk n Draw spaghetti western gun rig.

    Try Straight Line Collectables for the buckle. Nice work!

    In my opinion, this is one of the best and most detailed tutorial video on western gun rigs I have ever seen. I would think the basic steps would be good for other holsters and belts for different types of use. For example, with a little modification it could be used to make, say, a Buscadero rig. Great video. I learned a great deal from, not only the video itself, but the commentation as well. Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching.

      Jack watching this video series brought back years of memories of my father crafting holsters and equipt carriers for a lot of local police officers in phila. PA. He did all his work in his bedroom working on a 1 1/4 " Plywood piece on his lap. The sound of him tooling the leather with various stamps and tools became part of my life. At about age 10 I had a set of hand tooled western holsters for my cap guns. Watching I could almost smell wet leather and Neatsfoot Oil!
      THANK YOU!
      If I could I would post a photo of a knife sheath still have here.

    Very nice and very true to the original! I've made a few Andy Anderson rigs myself although not exactly like The Eastwood rig. I live in Carmel California and Mr. Eastwood was the Grand Marshall of the Centennial parade a couple of years ago. He rode on a Wells Fargo stage coach wearing the poncho from "Fistful Of Dollars", the shirt from "High Plains Drifter", the hat from "Unforgiven" and his Andy Anderson Walk and draw. Pretty cool! Thanks for sharing your process!

      I remember seeing that parade on the news, it was great to see him riding on the stage, still a real cool dude! not many left like him.

      The only thing I see as different on this wonderful rendition is that the original belts were curved. From what I understand, Mr. Anderson was the first to do this.

    Hi Jack just a small tip for you soft metals like brass and copper were what engineers call plannished and you should try using the ball end of the hammer it is what it was designed for, brass and copper when they are annealed ( softened ) are very easy to work, it is then plannished to work harden then so they do not bend so easily I think you will be pleased with the effect

    For those that are trying to make this themselves. You gotta give extra in measurements for material thickness and stitching room.
    Personally, if you got the money to do it, buy it made to order from him. It will save you a ton of issues just in sewing it alone. Saddle stitching it all would work great, but it isn't easy. Most folks don't have the leather sewing machine or the the really cool hole punching machine for the saddle sewing he showed.
    Yes it can all be done without his equipment. But it won't be great unless you are a long time leather worker, who has practiced the technique needed to do it all by hand.
    I might be able to do what he did without the specialized tools. But it would take me a year most likely to get it that perfectly if I didn't have to redo anything to fix a mistake.
    As an experienced crafts worker in various materials and crafts, I can say he made this look much easier that it is by far.
    He didn't show the repeated increases in size he had to do to make it so the gun actually fits into the holster. The material thickness makes a huge difference in the basic working pattern. That means if you followed his markings around the gun and thought you got this, then you will be very disappointed in your work, because it will come out several sizes to small.
    People this is not plug in play craft. This requires a serious craftsman to make it right. You can choose someone like me that will take forever to make it right, if I don't make any mistakes. Or you can hire the man who like the guy you just saw make one.
    I'm smart enough to see the needs that wasn't shown. But I'm not expert enough to copy the process, especially without the tools he had at hand.
    I wish I could have one of those the holsters made for me. But the darker and smoother versions. But I can't even afford the gun. ☺️
    Great videos and even better work. I saw and understood it all as I saw it, being a leather fan. But your skill is way beyond mine, and I dont want to waste the leather trying until I got it right. 🤣

    • @londonjacks8371

      The Walkers certainly a lot of iron to carry, are you thinking of a belt holster or a shoulder holster?

    • @duacot6633
      @duacot6633 4 роки тому +1

      @@londonjacks8371 I'm thinking about an over left shoulder supported with drop "Hollywood Action" style holster with inner support as for the weight can be extremely uncomfortable with just a belt. I've had an injury to my right elbow and i find it's easier to draw from a dropped position rather then when worn traditionally high. Intending to have seperate removable cylinder cases, ammo pouch with paper cartouches along with seperate pouches for caps and projectiles.
      I should say, i am absolutely not concerned with being "period correct. I look at it more as "period practical ".

    Very Nice Job. The rounded buckle is very reminiscent of Steve McQueen's gun belt buckle in the Magnificent 7 ! In fact the whole rig is VERY similar to Clint's!! Many years ago a trainee saddler at work made me a gun belt but the belt and bucket were made as one piece, well we got the leather free! we had no metal but the leather was pretty thick and very hard once dried. It lasted many years until I put on weight and it did not fit any more!!!

    How do you figure out the correct spacing on the stiching holes for bullet loops for the size cartridges you will be using?

    • @londonjacks8371
      @londonjacks8371  2 роки тому +1

      Place a cartridge on a flat surface, lay the lace over it, clamp down on both sides with a ruler 📏 or 📐, use a wing divider over the lace and cartridge to measure the spacing for the stitching holes on the belt, then lay the lace out flat, the rulers should have left a mark and this will give you the stitching hole spacing for the lace.
      I recommend doing a test piece to check if your cartridge fits ok, and make any small adjustments if required.

      I’m in England so use leather made here in the traditional way since 1840, it works very well for these holsters, Herman Oak and Wicket & Craig in the US produce good quality leathers but not so easy to get over here.

    I’m trying to make a mix of this and Dutch’s from red dead redemption 2, is 3 inches too wide for a gun belt if it tapers to 1 inch wide for the buckle

    • @londonjacks8371
      @londonjacks8371  Рік тому

      Id say you need to make the taper down to 1 1/2” on a 3” wide belt, 1 inch is to small.
      Good luck with your project!

    Very beautiful work, and a great video. How much would such a rig cost? How long would it take? I have a copy of the gun Mr. Eastwood used in all his spaghetti westerns, and I think this would finish it off perfectly.

    Hi again. Just wondered what thickness of leather you used for the bullet loops? I'm using for the belt 3.5mm but that seems too heavy for the loops and wants to distort the belt before I can put the liner on.

    • @londonjacks8371
      @londonjacks8371  2 роки тому

      2-2.5mm thick works well for the loops, if you have a bench splitter you can split the 3.5 down.
      I buy shoulders that are about 2-2.5mm, I use if for holster lining as well.

  • @jamesoverman3100
    @jamesoverman3100 4 роки тому

    Could you make that same rig in a left hand version and I really really like the fact that you put as many bullet loops as the belt will hold. I am left handed and i use a Ruger blackhawk in 45 colt. I also need the belt to go around a 50 inch waist and with just a little bit more muzzle forward cant.

    • @jamesoverman3100
      @jamesoverman3100 4 роки тому

      I also use Ruger Blackhawk w/4-5/8 inch barrel w/ ivory grips.

    • @londonjacks8371
      @londonjacks8371  4 роки тому

      Lefthand no problem, but I’d have acquire a Blackhawk gun mold for the holster sizing, and the shoulders I use rarely come wide enough for a finished belt of that length.

    • @londonjacks8371
      @londonjacks8371  Рік тому

      I don’t know why Andy Anderson designed it that way, likely to make it different from rigs other leather shops were selling, maybe it was by accident, often times this can lead to a new product design.

    What do you do about the belt end that goes over the bullets? I was looking at your pattern of your gun belt.

    • @londonjacks8371
      @londonjacks8371  4 роки тому +1

      It depends what hole the belt is buckled on, but maybe I’ll adjust the pattern slightly to address that, perfection is strived for but never achieved, thanks for your comment.
