Just discovered your channel, I can't thank you enough for all you have taught me about making gun rigs. I have been making my own and some for friends but I have learned things from you that I never knew or thought about. I can't wait to watch your other videos, other video instructors did not convey instructions as clearly or as detailed as you do. I can't thank you enough for what you are doing. Best Regards.
Thank you for watching, glad you learned a few new things, I certainly do everyday, that’s the great thing with leather craft, you’ll never stop learning. Good luck with your projects.
I'm having problems with the skirt part . I cant figure out how to start one from scratch. I know on this video you have your attached but I dont have any holster templates that have them . My cousin wants me to make an old western style holster for his revolver and I bought the wrong templates. I guess I'll call tandy back up maybe and see if they have another book or templates for sale. I also have been using Eco-flo all in one dye and its not doing well with my projects . Anyway! I have learned so much from your videos on this one so far. Thank you . I am more of a visual learner then a book learner . Thank you again for your videos! Take care and stay safe my friend!!
Thanks for your comments!, To make this holster you really need the pattern set from Will Ghormley, Tandy may still have them, then you’ll have all the details and information. The eco pro dye in a much better product than the all in one dye, or use the pro oil dye that’s very good as well. Good luck with your leather crafting!
@@londonjacks8371 thank you so much for your knowledge. I ordered all the patterns from tandy today lol . Thank you again . Take care and stay safe. Happy holidays.
Hello my friend, sorry to keep bugging you, I was wondering if you would consider doing a video on the John Wayne El Dorado Rig. I think I’m going to try my hand making that rig first before I attempt The Hand Of God rig. Thanks again, all your knowledge and videos have been very helpful.
Excellent video, beautiful rig!! I see you come in 1/2" on the buckle side and measure the waist length from that point (+1"). How much extra belt length do you leave past that point off to the right (the part that goes under the belt keeper)?
No you just need to apply some water with a sponge, or dip it in a bowl of water for a few seconds then put it in a plastic bag overnight, this way the moisture soaks deep into the leather. Hope that helps good luck with your tooling.
It depends what it will be used for, fast draw, SASS, CAS, reenactment use etc all would have different specific requirements as to the design, and the firearm needs to be a good functional fit, other than that the choice of decoration and embellishment is unlimited.
If when the leather is still damp you run over the stitches with a glass slicker or similar smooth hard object it will compress the leather around the thread and close up the hole that the needle made.
Hello again John, does one need to know the size of the bullets before using the stitching pattern given? Will used a 45, I believe, but I will be using a 357.
Yes you will need to determine the spacing for a 357 round Place a cartridge on a piece of paper on a table edge, wrap the lace over it, use a straight edge on either side, mark the lace, that gives you the lace spacing, also mark on the paper the width of the cartridge, that gives you the belt spacing, you will need to make an allowance for the lace thickness, I use a 2mm thick lace, use some scrap to test the measurement and make any adjustments. Wing dividers work great for this process! Hope that helps
Hi Johnny, I have a Hightex 4500 harness stitcher, also known as Cowboy CB4500, it does a great job, very pleased with it, also have a Tippman Boss hand crank stitcher, that’s certainly earned its keep over the years.
Yes it’s all pit tanned leather, that holster was 9/10oz or 4.5/ 5mm, for lined holsters it’s 3mm with a 2mm lining leather, I get those split at the tannery.
Hello my friend, Greetings from Texas, I was wondering if you can give me the info for the company you get your steer Hides from ? Do they have a website so I can place an order online? Thanks
As you’re in the US Check out Springfield Leather and Weaver Leather Co they both have good quality veg tan Shoulders, I’ve bought from them both over the years.
@@londonjacks8371 Thanks so much for your response. I've ordered the lace from Tandy. I appreciate your guidance. I've chosen the HOG rig as my first project in leather so I'm probably in a bit over my head but I'm experiencing a big learning curve.
There’s nothing wrong with being ambitious, take your time, you’ll amaze yourself with the result. There’s plenty of step by step HOG tooling pictures on Will Ghormley’s website.
I will when I get the chance. A good tip for that is make a deeper stitch groove in the plug, a leave a slightly wider margin when grooving the holster bottom.
Mike Marshall For 45/44 cartridges the stitch spacing on the cartridge lace is approximately 1 3/8”, or 35mm, that’s on a 2mm thick lace, so for 12 45LC cartridge loops you would need a piece about 17” or 432mm, long, allowing for a tab at each end. I would do a test on some scrap to see how well they fit, as it depends on the Leather your using, and how much stretch it may have.
@@londonjacks8371 Thank you very much. I am trying to decide whether to try my hand at leather work Now we are in lockdown I suppose it would be a good time to start, it will only be a hobby. Mike UK
Hi there i got a couple of single action blank firing burini 380 peacemakers how how would i do a double holster with bullet loops like this love the videos by the way
Thanks for your comment. If your asking me how you would make a double holster gun rig like the Yuma rig for your Bruni blank guns, that really depends on your level of leathercrafting ability, it’s certainly not an entry level project. I would not try and do loops for the 380 blanks, they are far to short, better to have 45LC loops with dummy rounds.

Yes laced loops are an option, I have made several belts using that method, in the old west period it was considered more durable by some makers.

Try olive oil. Or even olive oil spray. Some Saddle Makers in Wyoming are using olive oil.
I believe the old time saddle shops used it extensively.
Plus it is a vegetable product on the hands. You can handle food after you treat leather without having to scrub.
