Man did this video save me some headache and grief this morning. Thank you so much!! I've done alot of repair work but had never messed with the spring loaded calipers on a ford vehicle. I'm now UA-cam certified :)

I just resulted to cut off the spring and the clip holding the cable because I couldn't get it off. Service Manual says to release the tension which I did when installing it on a new caliper and it was not as tricky, just a little bit.
At 2:16, I used a piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe as I don't have the special tool, worked great. Also, when I went to the parts store they asked if I needed a "standard" or "heavy duty" caliper. I assumed standard, but later had to replace it with heavy duty. The heavy duty fits a larger diameter rotor.
I’ve found that a replacement for the special tool to take the cable out would be a 13mm wrench slid it over tap it with a punch and it works like a charm but put the closed end over or it won’t work i used a 12 point not sure if a 6 point would work as well
I have a 2012 ford explorer xlt im doing all 4 bearings rotors calipers and brakepads my first time. None of the wheels will turn unless it is on and in neutral?!? Thanks for the great videos!!
Nice video. Why wasn't a clear tube attached to the bleed nipple used? The nipple is there for a reason. Professional use a clear tube attached to the bleed nipple that drains into a container instead of all over the caliper and possibly the pads. Sorry but I'm a little disappointed. This could have been a great video.
Make sure, before you remove the emergency/parking brake cable, that the parking/hand/emergency brake is disengaged. Otherwise, you're going to have a hard time pulling the cable off because it is tight.
I did my 2019 rear calipers, I noticed that the bolts that you tighten to 76 ft lb had blue thread lock on them and I cleaned off the old dreadlock and applied new thread lock.
Great video, thanks 1A. Pro tip: when removing the parking brake cable, it helps to pull the caliper and remove the pads first. Then put the caliper back on and use the same technique shown above. You'll be able to rotate the tab much further and get more slack in the cable.
I just tore my hands up for about 30 minutes after trying the video's instruction. Glad I decided to take a break and come to the comment section, thank you.

Awesome video. Going to replace my 2016 rear passenger caliper today and the video looks just like what I'm in store for. Always nice to have a reference video!
Another trq video said the caliper bracket bolts are supposed to be 122 ft/lbs is this because ones front and ones rear? Im confused you said 76 ft/lbs?!? Also the caliper bolts 24ft/lbs the other video said 53 ft/lbs why? Same vehicle, maybe the front ones are bigger heavier?
Thanks for the video. What is the "special tool" made for removing the emergency brake cable called? Where can I get one? I cannot get that f*&^+ing cable off!
+Genaro Garcia Solid rotors that have a slightly larger surface and offer better durability and stopping power. Vented brake rotors that provide better cooling and are less likely to warp and fade. Please be sure to replace according to what your OE rotors are.
What a mess! Should have used a clear vinyl/plastic tube to drain the brake fluid to a container to avoid spilling brake fluid onto metal parts suck as the body of the newly installed caliper and the brake caliper bracket. The brake fluid eats up metal hence causing rust problems down the road. Just my 2 cents

+@DrHumorous Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks. This was what I needed to figure out the best way to get the emergency brake cable back on.

Great video! Thank you for posting. Best advice to get off the parking brake cable.
Very helpful, thank you.
What is the name or part number of the "special tool" used on the brake cable..you dont have it listed in the parts list..thanks guys
👍👍
Thank you for this video. 🍻
Total PITA job compared to other makes and e-brake methods… 🥵

What’s the special tool called?
We’re to get that tool for the cable
Thank you Thank you Thank you. The e brake cable was making me crazy.

good to know ty

Do I need to compress the caliper piston on my new caliper?
Where can I get that "special tool" for removing the parking brake? What is it called?
A 13mm wrench slips over and tap it with a punch and it comes right out, make sure to use the box end
Or a tip tie worked much better
Extremely helpful as I am not an auto mechanic.. my truck is back on the road .. thank you for the Instructions!!!
Thanks for sharing this video. Does the same principle apply to the front calipers as well? Or does the front require a different approach?
Thanks for the heads up about the non traditional piston caliper tool.
+Lionheart Racing Series Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Where did you get the tool to release the two prongs on the E brake cable
+Tom McCarriston Thanks for watching! We do not offer that specialty tool at this time, but your local auto part store might have it!

Heavy Duty brakes also require the DOT 4 LV fluid. This video shows DOT 3 fyi
just a though these models tend to seize up a good amount no matter what you do for the rear calipers including the taurus

Do you guys carry that special tool lossen the parking break cable?

Is that a HD caliper? Or regular?
These videos have been so helpful in doing all the maintenance and replacing my braking system!
This video saved my ass when my mechanic left me high and dry. Thank you sooooooo much!

Thanks for the note on getting slack for the ebrake. That doesn't have much play without removing that bolt
Awesome video. Going to replace my 2016 rear passenger caliper today and the video looks just like what I'm in store for. Always nice to have a reference video!
Where was the caliper and bracket purchased ???
M y Ford explorer foot brake does not engage can I consult this to you as to what should I replaced?

Great video. I couldn't have done it without your help. Many thanks.
Im trying to buy the calipers front and rear seems that they are not in sale in 1auto
I think you meant to say 89 INCH lbs (not ft lbs) on tightening the bleeder screw.
4 ugga duggas will do also.
Ruined my caliper.
No crush washers on the brake hose?
I torqued my bleed screw to 89 foot pounds and now I can’t find it I think it may have got sucked inside the brake box
+gza06955 Thanks for watching! Sorry about that, he misspoke. It is supposed to be 89 inch pounds, not foot pounds!
great tips what is that tool called that squeezes the fingers together
Thank you for this video! Instead of the brake cable tool, I was able to use a zip tie easily (then cut the zip tie off after).
Awesome tip, zip tie worked like a charm!!
Thanks for that tip! It worked great.
Will definitely work, I’ve always used hose clamps, same concept
Great idea I couldn't find any of those special tools i checked in every store near me!?!

Ok do you have to unhook that cable you took off to get that caliber off.
89 ft lbs for the bleed screw?????
+Ronald Wright Thanks for watching! I believe he meant to say 89 in lb, not ft lb! 1aauto.com
Yea that gave me quite a pause, I hope to god he meant in-lbs.
Thanks for the video. What is the "special tool" made for removing the emergency brake cable called? Where can I get one? I cannot get that f*&^+ing cable off!
David Goldberg might be able to use a deep socket to do the same.
Nevermind you putting on another caliber I see now
I miss my Craftsman flex head ratchet. 😟
Whats the difference on having a solid roto and a vented rotor?
+Genaro Garcia Solid rotors that have a slightly larger surface and offer better durability and stopping power. Vented brake rotors that provide better cooling and are less likely to warp and fade. Please be sure to replace according to what your OE rotors are.
what is the name of that tool for e-brake cable???
Parking brake cable remover
Just gloss over the hardest part, removing the e brake cable
