Behind Space ‘99
I prefer Colony version as well, however I requested this one as it has Mikael Stanne on vocals.
I kind of get you on the production value and I do love the Colony version myself but I don't know, even though I love a crystal clear production, there's a certain "vintage" beauty on Lunar Strain as a whole. There's a raw fury you don't get on their later albums. It's like expecting Dismember to sound like new In Flames. It just wouldn't sound right, IMO.
I personally prefer the colony version... but I stand on the hill that in flames has never made a "bad album"
Fun fact! Mikael Stanne performed vocals on "Lunar Strain", while Anders Friden performed vocals on Dark Tranquility's debut album "Skydancer"! 😁
The only way in flames to sound like in flames again is by getting jesper, bjorn, glenn together again and fredrik nordstrom as the producer

I love that shit production of early 90's Swedish metal. When In Flames did Whoracle i knew something big was gonna happen. I stayed interested in the band up to Soundtrack to Your Escape. They continued to change their sound which was okay. What wasn't okay for me was all the lineup changes over the years. Now i'm seeing the same thing happen with Dark Tranquility but they actually still sound like Dark Tranquility while In Flames doesn't sound like In Flames anymore.

The album that makes me miss Jesper in the band. I like this version of Behind Space better than the others. No knock on any of them but the original hits different regardless of the production which was a factor of it being 94

always loved it when in flames went folky.... which wasn't all that uncommon with their early albums. hell even when they started the transition to their modern sound on Reroute to Remain there was a folky track called metaphor on that album that has a nice fiddle melody.
i prefer raw lo production version over newer in flames...
