Making fpv world less complicated with DJI Avata. I appreciate DJI made it even more beginner friendly. Not everyone has the time and skills for fpv drones so having a ready-to-fly option is brilliant!
100% I’ve been flying drones since the Phantom 2, and my one foray into DIY-world to make a Cinewhoop was not a fun experience. There are a lot of folks out there who just want to go out and fly instead of building + repairing hardware.
on the surface, i agree but i think there is a reason they very intentionally didn’t do this… the vast majority of dji fpv buyers (and likely avata) were 100% new to FPV drones. most were unwilling and impatient to get get results somewhat similar to what they saw on all the cool FPV drone videos on youtube and ultimately a lot were unhappy with their new drone, crashing etc. to solve this dji is forcing the hand of buyers and giving them the motion controller which gets you a lot closer to dynamic views associated with fpv drones but in a safer, nearly instant to learn way that will make people happy with their new drones and then they can “upgrade” to the full experience with the purchase of a “low cost” (hahaha) $199 fpv controller.
The motion controllers weren't selling. Dji had a warehouse full of them. So they made this the only bundle available to get rid of that surplus supply. Diffently a business decision.
Great information on the new Avata drone, it seems like DJI really got this one right. With improved camera and goggles this is really interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Could have picked up the Avata today in a store but i will skip this one. 1429 euro for the combo view and 249 euro for spare batteries is expensive for something i will probably only fly a couple of times a year.
Shouldn't be a problem. I've been flying with a GoPro Hero 10 zip-tied to the top of it, without any issues (the GoPro Max is actually 4g lighter than the GoPro Hero 10). Obviously, you get reduced battery time - but all is well.
You’re so good at these reviews 😂. First off they should have had a cine mode on this drone for sure and focused on flying this slower too almost like an interior mode or something unique. That motion controller blows and DJI not offering a standard remote bundle is ridiculous. I felt like I had to be a precision surgeon removing that damn micro sd card too holy crap! 😂 oh yeah I returned mine. 😄 That goggle side touch pad to adjust settings sucks to me too…should be something else. 🤙🏾🤙🏾

Correct, the 'Goggles V2' goggles have more range than the 'Goggles 2'. Keep in mind though, the 10KM range is only for FCC/US mode, not CE/EU mode (which is spec'd at 2KM).
Great work! One question I do have though - are the new goggles compatible with the old FPV drone? I need glasses to see and really struggle with the visibility in the old goggles and would love to be able to have the internal diopter adjustment as I can't find the accessory lenses in the US.
You can get prescription inserts made for the older goggles. I have them and they work great. I used vroptician. Just make sure to have your eye doctor give you the numbers from your prescription.

Yup, that’s correct. Unfortunately, I don’t have any travel super-near term to the US to validate this range there. But I’m sure someone will probably soon.
Europe has a much more tightly regulated airspace and broadcast spectrum. This is mainly due to the negotiations needed between different systems as it's made up of different countries packed together each with slightly different regulations for aircraft slot booking and airspace flow management. The US has a heavier reliance on air travel, where planes are almost as frequent as buses! Europe has more trains and a different road system also which adds to travel possibilities and so complicates things.

It’s so confusing because I’ve seen multiple UA-cam videos straight up showing the goggles 2 have BETTER range than the V2, yet there are also multiple videos saying the opposite.
How can DJI claim a range of 10K and you can only get 1K before the signal starts to break up? That is a big big difference. BTW Thanks for the very informative video! Thanks
Great review! Concerning the googles, would you recommend the older (V2) or the new (2...who came up with that terminology?) ones, apart from the obvious price difference? The new ones are lighter, but have less range. You also mentioned the new ones have a touch-pad on the right side. If the old ones don't have that - how does accesssing the menu works in that case?
If range isn’t an issue, or the slight increase in frames per second on the old ones, then I’d go new. Just so much lighter, better UI (old ones use buttons that are fine but not great).
Awesome video. Just curious. I am having trouble with seeing two separate images in the goggles instead of one full image. Is that normal? First time having FPV goggles. LOL. Not sure if it's normal and how to correct it if possible. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question, at what sort of range/altitude do you stop hearing the drone? I live close to an urban area and worried that I might startle people/animals with the drone.
Honestly, it really depends on whether there's any winds (which increase the engine power). But assuming no winds, I'd say about 75m away it becomes relatively quiet. It's moderately miserable for most people (much higher pitch than other drones) at 0-30/40 meters.
On the expanding charger I think I will just wait till I can buy a 3rd party charger for $50 bucks on Amazon that will actually charge all 4 batteries at once and not charge each battery individually. I'll just buy a couple extra batteries later on and just manual swap batteries to charge each one till I can get a much better charger. As DJI's biggest package deal, why they are so cheap on including a couple more batteries is beyond me besides just scamming us out of more money.

However the specs and overall value is pretty amazing compared to building and setting up a digital fpv cinewhoop with anywhere near the flight time, range, or ease of use...
QUESTION 😊: I want this drone to do house inspections. Look at my 2nd floor gutters, roof etc.... Will it have the same "hovering" video quality as the new Mini 3. I am not an FPVer, BUT as an older person love the concept of the goggles and the hand-held approach ! as opposed to looking at a screen outside. Do you think this is an appropriate application ⁉ Of course I find the hand-held controller and Goggles to also be Awesone for all around fun too for those of us with bad eyesight do not want to learn the fancy controller...
Don’t buy this for inspections. Absolutely the wrong drone for it. This is for cinematic flying not data capture. Stick to the mavic line for that stuff.
You should get a Mavic Air 2 or Air 2S for inspections. They have sensors around the body and slower speed modes for precision around trees, dormers, ridges and other roof details. Yes you have to use a remote, but it’s not complicated. You can attach any size ipad to your remote so you can see everything in a big view. I fly with an ipad mini attached to my remote. I hate flying with a small phone.

That 200m range in the woods is a dealbreaker 4 me. I usually fly my drone in wooded areas and narrow valleys... I would love buying this, but the fact that they don.t give the RC at 1400$ it.s again, a bad thing. I thought that the RC would be the main controller, and the joystock - a gimmik. So, 1400$ for the combo+200$ for the RC and another 300$ for the batteries makes the full price kinda steep. A combo worth 1500$ including the drone, the glasses, the RC and a spare battery would have been a hit imho
Realistically in the UK at least, it's going to be hard for your spotter to maintain line of sight in the kind of dense foliage woodland Ray is flying in there. Not great, but the legislation doesn't work great for this kind of flying anyway.
@@Dcrainmaker bro watch his channel hi did a full review yesterday on it. Lol this is what indo I been watching shitnon this drone for past 2 months waiting I follow nurk he's one of the pilots that's got me into flying.

It is. But it is difficult to understand. Have to keeps stopping and re-viewing to get what you are saying. Most vid I have to play at + 1.5 to stop boredom killing me, yours I have to slow down ......
Hmm yea disappointing that it’s just a smaller FPV. Like you said towards the end, I’m waiting for an all in one DJI drone that can do the FPV but also all the quickshots and active track features of the standard drones, in a nice compact package. The wait continues I guess…
Can you do. a BEGINNER Avata Versus Mini - 3 Advice video for the less technical newer buyers ⁉ Oops I just saw you intend to do that review and THANKS !
Thanks for the vid! I loved how you explained so much especially around the FCC / CE stuff and the fact it is only a software lock. 2km for use in UK is really disappointing! And I wish the goggles had a better battery solution (eg built in on the headstrap like a vr headset) as i don't like cables hanging off my face :-D .... Thanks for your time putting it all together for us was really informative. It looks like a nice piece of kit!
It's interesting to hear about the software limitation cap of the goggles between the EU and USA. Here in the US every review I'm watching has the drone go quite a ways behind buildings and through thick forests before you start to see any minimal quality drop. But for you in the EU I think you said you went about 300m behind some trees and it basically completely cut out. I feel like people would watch your review and think "man, the goggles 2 are MUCH worse than the v2's" but in reality they're actually A LOT better, it's just the software cap DJI put on them for EU countries.
Yup, I tried to explain it as best I could with as clear as imagery and tables as I could. Ultimately, if you ever travel with the drone - it's a big consideration.
I've spent about five gran on drones this summer, another one and I'll have to sell them to afford the divorce lawyer. I have the original DJI FPV drone, this one might have a couple more interesting features but it's not worth blowing hundreds more. IMO.
Hi there , to anyone who own Avata , I would like to ask does it come with “FOLLOW ME” mode ? I currently have mini 2 and I can have my drone to follow me when I’m running . @@Dcrainmaker Hi thank you so much for your time to reply. So if I want to shoot a video of myself hiking (of course can clearly see my face without goggle) do you know how can we? Thanks so much for help
There is no point of buying any drones unless you comply with the laws of your county. I don't wanna fly in the woods so that I comply with the no flying over people or cars rules. And if the drone is over 250grams now I have to take a 60 question test that costs me about $200 and lots of time? No thanks. I was looking to get into this rather inexpensive hobby to take beautiful aerial pictures and videos around Tampabay Florida. Now I'm not. Goodbye drone hobby. FAA rules have made it NO FUN.
The FAA test is free (for non-commercial fliers). I agree I don't understand why the commercial version is far more complex when it's the same drones in most cases. But in your case, you can easily take photos around Tampa Bay without paying any sort of license fee.
@@Dcrainmaker I'll have to Google a local drone group or organization in Tampa that can better guide with the drone laws before giving up completely on this fun looking RC hobby. Thanks for the tech info! 🙌
I agree. Like I said on the other aspects, there’s no reason it can’t aside from software. And there’s also no reason you should ‘have’ to fly with goggles either, plenty of FPV flyers use large secondary screens instead - especially if trying to stay within regulations.
I'd like to have a quiet drone. How many times I was flying my Mavic Air and the sound was pretty much disturbing anyone around..... A tiny, light, discreet, quiet drone. I'm waiting for this one. -:)
Thanks for great video. I'm thinking about Avata, but living in EU have quite big concerns regarding 300 meters range. Was it fixed finally? Have you tried Avata with new DJI Integra, maybe it fixed the problem? If no seems like it would be better idea to buy mini 3 pro and Integra goggles additionally(
200meter-range in wodden terrain or wifi infested areas... great, perfect - I was so afraid it was like 25 to 50 meters or soemthing... Well done DJI and I fully agree, range is highly overrated in Europe.. 200m is more then enough, up down, or side to side, and you got almost 400 meter in total..

They also suck rather hard for STILL giving mode 4 fliers the shaft...
Yup. I would have bought that. Their current combos aren’t doing it for me
Bronhes crazy go to nurk fpv page and watch how far he got in the forest they have amazing pennetration. N liken12km of range lol. Thisnguys nuts
@@maddmavic NURK flies in the US, and thus under the FCC transmission specs. He wouldn’t get 12km there (because that’s beyond spec, which is 10km).
Very excited to get your feedback on this one but I'm thinking I can't really handle more film toys in my life at this point. 🤦♂ Maybe next year there will be more time built into the 24 hour day 🤔 I found the buying options odd. I don't really want the hand controller but I do want the new goggles. 🤷🏻♂ Brilliant SD card slot design. Wow. (also, nice dc cave tour going on in here). Great review as always Ray!
Totally agree
@@NickGoldston - Ummm Nick you need this. Expense it to the TTL podcast slush fund. 🤫 💰
The ratio of content to time in your videos is awe inspiring
Thanks, appreciate it!
It is. But it is difficult to understand. Have to keeps stopping and re-viewing to get what you are saying. Most vid I have to play at + 1.5 to stop boredom killing me, yours I have to slow down ......
Always the most incisive review available-thanks DC!
Thanks!!!
Hmm yea disappointing that it’s just a smaller FPV. Like you said towards the end, I’m waiting for an all in one DJI drone that can do the FPV but also all the quickshots and active track features of the standard drones, in a nice compact package. The wait continues I guess…
Hopefully one day!
Can you do. a BEGINNER Avata Versus Mini - 3 Advice video for the less technical newer buyers ⁉ Oops I just saw you intend to do that review and THANKS !
Im waiting for the drone hacks people to release a firmware update to remove CE/EU 2km restriction like they did with the DJI FPV!!!
With drone rights here in the United States erroding, I can't see myself buying another drone. But nice video.
Yup. You’ll be restricted to drone only areas in a couple of years.
Now you know how us gun guys felt for the last couple of decades.
Except there’s somehow more requirements and limitations to buying a 251g drone (or any drone), than a gun in the US.
@@Dcrainmaker Totally incorrect, but I'd love to hear you defend that statement.
@@Dcrainmaker that is completely untrue. Not even remotely close to accurate. You might want to do some research before you spout off so ignorantly.
@@Cartercockman Ill be interested to see his response.
It is possible to get a battery clip and shorter cable to head mount the battery. I got mine from Amazon for the V2
Since Avata is FPV require goggle to control Everytime. Are there any way to turn on Follow Me mode ?
Thx for all helping ❤❤❤❤❤
Hello. No, unfortunately there's no Follow Me mode in any of DJI's FPV products (Avata, FPV, etc...). :(
@@Dcrainmaker Hi thank you so much for your time to reply. So if I want to shoot a video of myself hiking (of course can clearly see my face without goggle) do you know how can we? Thanks so much for help
the topic no one talks about, I wonder why :D Are eye lashes touching the glass?
I was hoping it would bind to the Mini 3 controller...sjgh.
I agree. Like I said on the other aspects, there’s no reason it can’t aside from software. And there’s also no reason you should ‘have’ to fly with goggles either, plenty of FPV flyers use large secondary screens instead - especially if trying to stay within regulations.
Another excellent video! 🎉 this is the most I have ever had flying. :) I love this thing so much!
Can i use gopro with Avata ?
Yes, if mounted. Maybe I'll do a quick video on it.
DJI FPV 20 minute battery life? More like 8-9 lol or is my battery dead
Works well for both pros and beginners. So far impressed with DJI Avata’s features. Hope to experience it soon with the DJI Goggles 2
Does it still have geofencing? If I’m flying indoors next to an airport I would like to be able to override the restrictions
Yes, same as other DJI drones.
@@Dcrainmaker dang. kind of takes away the point of it being a small cinewhoop if you can't bypass these for flying indoors
If no seems like it would be better idea to buy mini 3 pro and Integra goggles additionally(
Am I the only one pausing video on 1:01? :)))
But seeing this video I'm thinking of getting the V2 goggles to conquer the range issues in Europe. What's peoples thoughts?
Very helpful 💚 thank you
