I think Kiwis are way ahead of the curb on grounding. Attend any school sports day in Hamilton, there is a distinct lack of shoes :). Judging by the size of lake Taupo it must have been one of the worlds largest eruptions.
Ahh, my kind of people…… I love you, you barefoot hippies! Ethan and I are doing the Wim Hof thing this winter, running around barefoot on the frozen prairie, cold showers, etc. It’s no tropical paradise like ya’ll are in, but we are getting TOUGH. Isn’t the human body amazing? Like good king David wrote “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Thank you for another awesome episode,Kiwis!
Hey Cruising Kiwis, Thanks for the episode and giving a history lesson about the volcanic activity. I always thought that the Krakatoa eruption caused the “year without summer” in Europe. Thanks Rachel for doing research about it and passing it on as a homeschool teacher. You’re doing a fantastic job for your boys and us viewers. As for walking barefooted: In the summer I like walking with no shoes on for most of the time as a mindfulness exercise. I had no idea of that it also was being physically beneficial. It snowed a lot here in Belgium so after watching this video I took off my shoes and went for a walk in the snow. Painful in the first 10 minutes but so satisfying at the end of a 20 minute walk when I got home again. Cheers! Fair winds and following seas!
You are made of hardy stuff FlyingV, twenty minutes barefoot in the snow deserves a medal. I know Wim Hof does a lot of barefoot snowy walks but possibly best to limit these to 5 minutes until summer. We wouldn't want you losing any of your toes to frostbite.
How interesting! I remember walking to the top of Teide, 3619 m., Tenerife. The only volcano I have been on. Sulphur smell but no eruption for over 200 years,
Indonesia is proving to be one amazing place after another. I am tempted to take a walk outside barefoot but it's just a bit too cold for it right now. Maybe in a month or three.
Another wonderful video with great underwater photography. You impart such knowledge and culture in your trips both on water and on land. These vlogs are the thing I look forward to all week. It's -2 Degrees C in Manchester at the moment. To cold and icy for no shoes. Thanks for those pearls of wisdom Rob about going barefooted. Keep well and safe. James.
I hear grounding does work. They even sell grounded sheets. Videos aren't the same without Ivan. It looked like you guys were the only cruisers around. Beauty after the blast ! Proof all the carbon creates beauty.
I put the "barefoot" walking experience on the same level as your "icewater" experience. Honestly, I feel the Brooklyn Bridge is yours for the asking. LOL! Seriously, I look forward and enjoy every one of your videos.
@@cestmoi1262 that's a good innings and long may it continue. Not sure if this counts for you but walking bare feet in your home can be good too. Our ancestors were almost never disconnected so it kind of makes sense, to me at least, to be so as much a possible.
Hi Kiwis, love the episode as always. So on the bare foot thing, I tend to agree, however I was bushwalking with my son the other day and we came across this random boxing bag tied to a tree, so I did what any self respecting person would do and gave it a good kick with my thongs on (jandals for my kiwi cousins) and had a major blow out and sent my broken thong flying into the bush. Upon retrieval of said thong, I noticed the major blow out and had to walk barefoot back to the house. Are you aware of how hot the ground is in summer in Australia! Fair to say I made it back to the house slightly quicker than expected hhahah. Love the show, Cheers Kiwis from Western Australia
Hey Ash love the anecdote. When I read blow out I thought it was going to be something else😉. Having spent the last three wonderful years in Oz I know only too how thermal it can be. Black sand though rare is lethal.

Rob, I too am very intrigued by things like the assertion that foot/earth contact is physically beneficial. I do wonder though, if it is first, psychologically beneficial, and as a result, physical health follows...
I think the physical effects are real as the research suggests. And wearing plastic 24 7 isolating from the earth just doesn't seem ok. Many people go for weeks without actually making contact. I reckon that's crazy.
Thank you Rachel for being so irate over the (#$%) who think the World is their personal trash bin. Remember Rob, moderation. You are not yet quite ready to walk over hot coals LOL 🤣
Ya found it out !! Yes direct foot contact with our Earth is very healthy but like everything else; there is a time to go barefoot and a time not to. And having lived through 76 summers myself, I still walk around barefoot. Until frost appears. I mean, why not??
