52:00 that was my old dinghy 😂 the Marina took it from us bc we were using the dock rack but didn’t pay the monthly fee, so they snaked it from us. Good to know the homie got it for $65 💸
Great to see you guys again. My feed was not showing you guys for like 6 months and then you showed up today. Great as I keep thinking about an auction boat. Thanks!
I'm an Aussie and those sail boat prices are mind blowing, Catalina couldn't get $400 is unbelievable. Some Americans don't seem to realize their country is great on a myriad levels, you are lucky to be American.
I seen the auction announcement a lil to late.. i wouldve enjoyed being there. some good boats on the list. thanks for covering. i hope to make the next one.
Yes. At the end of the video there are web addresses on the screen to get on their mailing list. O forgot to put links in the description so I’ll do that when I get home later. Cheers! 🤙🏼
Then you would technically have an unregistered (possibly stolen) boat that you would never be able to get insurance for so you better go places that don’t require you to have insurance or paperwork. Just stay out at sea forever! That would be a good plan.
I've been canoeing for over 40 years and $10 dollars for each canoe was insane! That first Old Town sells new for around $1,500. I bought mine around 1990 for $800 and sold it in 2010 for $900. Both of those canoes had the seats with cane inserts, which tend to deteriorate quickly. Mine had the nylon web lacing that was still in good shape when I sold it. Of course this auction was down on the coast where everyone prefers kayaks over canoes. Anywhere inland and those canoes would've brought around $300 to $500 each at auction and even more on Craigslist!
Im hoping to get a boat soon. I have always wanted to sail and im looking forward to it. Im going to take some classes and one day im going to build my own boat. I look forward to more videos soon.
There is a web address at the end of the videos and in the description to sign up for Long Beach’s email list. You need to join their email list to get notified.
It means you have to go pay the lien to whatever county it is owed then you pay the marine the price of your bid to get the boat. You don’t pay the marina the lien amount.
They have not announced the next one yet but they said it would be in the FALL. These auctions are in Long Beach California. There is a web address on the screen at the end of the video for you to sign up for their newsletter. 🤙🏼
I Just got to the catalina pop top.. IM SO SAD RN.. I would have got that... wouldve been perfect.. maybe itll be at the next auction, I gotta make sure i get there.
I would say that would be a good idea but it would be hard because the marina would want to know the size and info about the boat before they will reserve it for you. These auction boats must leave the Long Beach marinas for 6 months before they can come back with a new owner. So you would need a slip outside of the Long Beach area and there are many marinas fairly close by.
They have not announced when it the next auction will be. When I was there at the summer auction they said there would be one in the fall but that's all the info I have as of now. Stay tuned and I'll put out an announcement once they give us a date. Cheers!
The California luxury tax is a JOKE ! , they have tried to get me for my sailboat for years and the boat and I are in Mexico ! Also it is my home and NOT a luxury !!Also, you should check if they ever had a T.I.P. or temporary import for Mexico, many boats never check out properly and if you take a previously permitted boat to Mexico they will turn you around ! Love your videos, great second chance for some really nice vintage boats, some sadly it is the end of the line.....
Come to the next one in the fall. There are always kayaks there for sale. At the end of the video is a web address on the screen to sign up for the mailing list.
I think it is registration and overdue slip fees or the property tax on the slip for the duration of overdue slip fees. I’m not sure exactly but I do know that there are property taxes included in my municipal slip fee.
😥maaaan you have no idea how bummed i am that i wasn't able to make it.... i was all packed up and ready to go, doing my last couple checks around the house, turning the water and gas to the house off, making sure there was no food that would go bad in the fridge... then on my way out the door i noticed a stack of new mail had been delivered. i opened it and apparently something changed with my disability, and i have a few appointments i have to make over the next couple weeks to get everything set back up properly, and if i miss any of the appointments, especially the one on Monday that i have to do in person, i could lose my health insurance and stuff. if i was there i 100% would have bought that Catalina 25 $400 and no lien??? ya i'm 6'2" and it's short, but i would have just planned to pop the top, glass it in, and make it permanent so it would be tall enough for me to stand in while cooking and doing dishes and stuff. and with a boat that small i could have setup a sculling oar instead of getting an outboard. and i would have bid on a couple of the SUPs and kayaks to use as a temporary dinghy so fucking bummed man
@@sailingsole well all my insurance stuff and everything else should be taken care of way before then, so as long as it doesn't line up with a couple of weddings i have already committed to go to, or anything else like that, then i'll be there for sure
I did keep in contact, the engine started but not easily and it is likely the normal issues; old or dirty fuel, clogged fuel lines etc. For the most part it seems like he scored pretty good but it will still need to be gone through.
If I was looking to by a boat at this auction would you check out the boat, give feedback and bid on it ? Obviously you’d be paid for your time… asking out of curiosity
Dammit if that boat is truly worth $100,000 then I could have bought it. $31,000 was maximum bid then I would have bid $32,000 in hopes that could win it then sell it after I buy the big boat, for what it is worth then try to get another boat. Is there a website that people can sign up to bid, for boats at the auction? Unfortunately the auction is somewhat far from where I live. If I somehow end up participating in an auction, and winning a bid then I can travel to the USA, and pay, for it in person, or on a website if this is possible, for me to do.
@@sailingsole I hope, so. Because I could have been the highest bidder. I am still looking on the internet to find out how I can bid on different size American boats. I know this is possible, for me to bid on American boats on a website, but I cannot find anything like that big boat yet. I am noticing smaller boats that are placed in auction. I think it would be nice if Americans put larger boats, for auction as well.
I beg to differ. You can’t get a sailboat that nice for $5k. Of course there are variables that can cost money but he wanted it for his family to use and was willing to fix it up. That’s much better than the landfill but there will certainly be people talking crap about it.
I’m sure they try to collect. The boats are stored for a long time before they are auctioned likely for legal purposes but if the fees and liens are never paid then they are trying to get rid of the boat another way and recoup some money before they have to spend money to haul them out and send them to the landfill. I recently learned there is a state fund for this purpose alone but I don’t know many details.
The Auction company should be legally tell you if theirs a Lein on them or back taxes, Or they should give your money back! They should also give you paperwork or a title! 😮
Ridiculously cheap. The Old Town Canadian canoe they sell for between £400-£700 ($520-$900 USD) each here in the United Kingdom. The Walker Bay looks like the 8FT version they sell at £400 each here in the UK, if the Walker Bay 10 they sell normally sell at £500-£600 each.
Crazy how one can legally steal someone's property because the gubment didn't get their pound of flesh. No, kids. You don't really own it then, do you? Think about that for a while.
I think it’s different when your boat has exhausted its grace period at its slip. Different thing about property tax forfeiture, those people can drive by the house they built which the county sold for back taxes.
Amazing how you work hard for what you want and here come this brainwashed bastid with a badge steels your property to then sell it for profit. Only in this planet. In another solar galaxy life is free everything.

Classic plastic baby! Funny how some of those plastic boats are still floating 40+ years later right! Fiberglass is more durable than people think and they look like that because homeless people were most likely squatting in them after they were abandoned.

At this auction, if you win the bid of 5K and the boat has a 10K lien, does it mean you have to pay 15K? (of course + auction fees)

The Carver is a great candidate for home conversion! The engine room would be the new galley! The old galley would be the now office!
