I agree. I'm glad that had that comback in the mid 2000s. He's seems like he's doing really well. And he can go up against jay-z, that rap battle would be too funny!

No extra baby mama's, no getting arrested for stupid crap. He stood tall through all the BS he took from other rappers, and the media. I hope he and his family continue to be blessed.
Maria: yeah at one point he had hired literally almost all it seemed, of people he knew from childhood, it has been said, so they could be employed and be in his music movement, but having that many people on his payroll, financial illiteracy, and potential mismanagement of his funds by hired help really contributed to the downward spiral for the moment he filed for bankruptcy. Thank God for his good intentions though and learned life lessons. His story is a compelling one and his music legacy is sealed forever.
Part of why Hammer went broke was because he put people on and that doesn't get praised enough. Given how many people who make it could care less about helping others. I wish him success just for that.
@@donjazzy5510 Sad that is still the reality for too many. Hope that continues to change but just improves my opinion of Hammer even more if that was truly the case.

Congrats to the MC and his wifey, for holding their marriage together for over 3 decades and STILL continue to go "skrong". I'd like to think that both of them show a great representation of what black families should be.
First of all, I have the utmost respect for MC Hammer. At the time of his popularity, many rappers dissed him but the irony of it all, is Hammer gave current rappers the blueprint for their success. I'm happy he decided to pursue other ventures, and through it all is resilient. Thank you for covering this story, and giving the man his flowers. #Respect
You ain’t never lied! I remember when he got that Pepsi endorsement deal and how everybody called him a sellout🙄But these rappers now days have all kinds of endorsement deals and they get so much respect, it’s crazy! I agree with you 1000%!
D J: Facts! Blueprint! How ironic of Jay Z to pen some lyrics on an "easy target" experience of MC Hammer! Yes he had financial illiteracy and hired too many people from his neighborhood who grew VERY entitled perhaps, being on his payroll. He won't be the first to learn from his mistakes, and he won't be the last. In fact, from where he's positioned NOW, it actually seems those lessons of having to file for bankruptcy and sell his mansion back then for under the price of what he bought/customized it for, ALL went to financial wisdom and sustainability now. He's amazing and he definitely INFLUENCED an era! Biker shorts in my neighborhood as a woman, were always worn during that time of "You can't touch this!" We felt sexy! And his "Hammer Pants" were their own TREND! 3rd Bass made a whole hateful track called "The Gas Face" and they "trolled" MC Hammer the whole time. It was the bandwagon thing to do unfortunately, and had MORE MEN in Hip Hop had real courage back then, they'd focused on their own lives and careers or turned their ENVY into a more healthy emotion. They chose rather than be so spiteful of a man that they clearly wanted to be in HIS position of favorability. NONE of them had a cartoon. Not one, that was a BIG revenue back then, as it wasn't streaming/TV as we know it now. If you had a cartoon on the Saturday morning lineup, YOU WERE a BIG DEAL. Jem, Barbie and the Rockers, Batman, Spiderman, Justice League, Transformers, GI Joe, all were a big deal, and then here was MC Hammer breaking rank and getting to be up among all of that?? $$$ those rappers were insanely jealous, because their type of rap, was not POP. MC Hammer's was. James Brown starred in the video 2 Legit 2 Quit, a whole musical legend in his own right, who Michael Jackson even pulled inspiration from. This was just a sliver of the HUGE POPULAR IMACT MC Hammer had on that decade/era. They can NEVER take that away from him, financial mistakes and all. He was told he looked like baseballer Hank "Hammering" Aaron, hence his own take on the name as a performer, and as a child that frequented the baseball field. It was said as a kid, MC Hammer used to hang out at the Oakland Coliseum parking lot, trying to get a spare ticket into the games. He made an impression and got a job there with baseball, sometimes served as a bat boy with the nickname that stuck. He really has lived one heck of a life and with some memorable moments. What else can ANY of us ask for?
@@dlo8796 yep, now Beyonce has had a long running contract with Pepsi backing projects she does. Not sure if it's still active, but around the time she went solo after Destiny's Child, she worked with Pepsi. The IRONY!
No I'm not shocked!!! He has a very kind heart and a loving family. He was down for a minute then he got back up and became much stronger. He is what we call a successful story. Once again another good one❤
One thing I hate about the music industry is after your heyday is over, you're often made a joke. I'm so happy for Hammer and that he's made a name for himself in an entirely different industry. This is a prime example of leaving behind your old life and embracing the new. So many of us are still trying to open old doors that closed and locked behind us years ago! P.S: It's also cool that Hammer is so future-minded. Not many guys his age or from his era are so into keeping up with technology like that.
Don't forget that sometimes music reviewer and music listeners on that time, Love to abandoned to someone they're once love/like when the trend/hype died down and even tried to bash/ignored them when they're still making music. Then later whine about nobody making music like them anymore or talk about how underrated they are on that time. At least nowadays old artists can make music like they want to do. Mainstream or not, I love to hear they doing something new. (Example. RJ Latest Arrival new song was very good)
Thank you soo much for doing this story. He received a lot of unwarranted bad press and I wasn't sure how he was doing today, but it's good to see he's found a community of people who respect him and value his knowledge and input. He's doing a lot better than the average rapper today, who can't seem to stay out of jail...or the cemetery.
Hammer was before his time! The MJ of Rap and Hip Hop and deserves all his roses and flowers. First Diamond Plaque winning Rap artist and if you were able to catch one of his shows like I did as a kid it was nothing short of extraordinary.
Hammer wasn’t a head of his time, he was exactly where he was supposed to be. That was the era of partying and dancing. After him Hip Hop became far more serious
He single handedly brought Hip Hop to the main stream. You could not go anywhere in 1990 and not hear "U Can't Touch This" & "Pray" All these crossover Hip Hop records have Hammer to thank. Flowers are in order. 🌹🌺🌷⚘
BEFORE MC HAMMER, NO DISRESPECT, IT TOOK RUN DMC'S "WALK THIS WAY" FEAT. AROSMITH THAT PUT HIP HOP IN THE MAIN STREAM, HAMMER CAME LATER, RESPECT TO HAMMER, HE DID MAKE A MARK IN HIP HOP!!!!!!!
His performance was so energetic and I can’t even mention the amount of times I tried to do that hammer dance in vain 😩He seems like a good guy. Thanks for another great video.
I agree dude. Infact, here's my top 3 Best 80s-90s performers of all time : 1. Micheal Jackson 2.M.C Hammer 3. Bobby Brown (Again this is my personal opinion)
@@danavixen6274 It really is sad and unfortunate. The reason why some ppl don't bring along everyone on their journey or look out for everyone...his intentions were pure though. He was being official but to some of those ppl he helped he was no longer beneficial to them so it was easy for them to turn on him cause they couldn't leech off him anymore.
This is the shit that young black folks need to know, some positive things to help folks change the negatives. Much love to Bruh Hammer, his wife of damn near 40 years, his children, grandbaby (s) and family!!!! Keep on keeping on brother!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 & Way to clap back at JayZ & J's response was "Hammer is Right" 🤣🤣🤣
I thank GOD; Hammer not on Drugs, an Alcoholic, or got bad publicity like most of these rappers do concerning women, gun violence and worshipping Satan. Besides his money woes, M.C. Hammer lived a Blessed life. I hope he got his money woes under control. And without Hammer there wouldn't be a Jay-Z. So I'm rolling with the Hammer regardless if he comes out with another album or not.
When I was a kid my grandmother took me to see him and I swear he put on a performance, fireworks and all. Been to other concerts since like New Edition, Jamie Foxx and others but to date the concert still trumps them all. Great memories. Rip Grandma
I'm so grateful to have lived through his timeless music and 2bigMC (RIP). I would lose 20 pounds when his videos would come on lol. He was the Micheal Jackson of hiphop in my opinion. He made a financial mistake so what but he never was tangled in anything bad like the majority of these so called rappers. This is a very good story and I am glad he is doing well. The Creator guided him and he listened. Blessings
I loved MC Hammer's dancing and music back in the late '80s and early '90s. I have learned by his downfall that most people only want to be around you for what you have and for what they can get from you. Because when his money started to leave the people who were around him during his success started leaving also. I have learned that you cannot help everybody. And more importantly I have learned to manage my money accordingly.
Yes his financial literacy later on trumped the mistakes. That's what being an adult should be about, addressing what was done in naivety or the shadows of who we were MEANT to be. Now he's SO much more than his former self. Now that IS growth.
I, myself, was in my teens, when Hammer was rocking the entire world with his dance moves. He's an icon not only in a music standpoint, but also as a life coach. I remember when he was a laughingstock for every comedian, not knowing that he was a servant of God. And God NEVER lets his servant's down. So, he blessed him another way: he's now known in the tech industry. I clicked on this vid because of the thumbnail. This is one brother that satanic Jay Z can't touch. Yes indeed, he has sold his soul for riches, while Stanley Burrell was trying to change the entire Oakland. What has he done for Brooklyn, if not exploiting its image and name? Can't touch our MC, HAMMER💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Born and raised in West Oakland and attended the same high school as Hammer. I am much older than him, and I respect the guy to this day. He helped a lot of his friends and the community. It is sad there was so much jealously from some of the other rappers. Now some of them a using Hammer's blueprint for success. Go figure.
Good for Hammer! He used to be the only rapper I was allowed to listen to as a kid (heavily religious household). He always seemed like a good guy so I’m happy to hear this update. Nice work RRG!!!
To this day I still adore Hammer and seeing him perform back in the day has stayed with me. Forever the great showman. As for Jay Z, he likes to throw rocks as if his the blueprint of perfection. 😖 Great video 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I never heard that MC Hammer 🔨 was ignoring multiple children he had out of wedlock, or that he put his hands on an African woman journalist when she asked him a question he did not like!!!!! Jay💤 called one of our most treasured elders that has done so much to champion Civil rights in the Black community, Harry Belafonte a "boy" when he critiqued his non action with using his platform. The list goes on and on about Jay sleezy's wrong doings while Hammer is a good role model.
Most of these celebrities have kids out of wedlock and don’t claim them, just like Jay Z and many more and who can call out our elders when their hands are not clean? It’s unfair to mention others indiscretions when you have your own. Anything else listed 🧢 This was a great video. Nice one RRG.

Hammer has been and always is a success. He tried to help his community by remembering everyone when he made it to the top and it hurt him once he ran out of money. Hip hop is a thriving industry for the younger guys. Hammer used his common sense and knowledge from life to branch out into other industries and find opportunities once hip hop turned it's back on him. Success doesn't always come from having lots of money but it comes from serving God. McHammer learned this early in life and that's why he is doing well now.
I've always gravitated towards biographies, auto biographies, documentaries. It always intrigued me to see what life choices they made. I enjoyed this particular highlight on Hammer and a lot of the life stories of artists, because I can see the struggle or inner conflicts that affect us all, regardless of celebrity or class. For example, I used to LOVE watching the tv series "Behind the Music." Watching TLC's story was something else, among others. That series was done so well that I retained a lot of pop culture from them. Even POP UP videos was a series on VH1 that also ran, that would have quirky facts about the artist and that music video. For anyone who doesn't just love music, but gains INSIGHT into the creative process and the biography of the artists, it can teach a lot.
I am sooo glad to hear good news about Hammer. He lost money because he has a big heart. I'd like to think that God blessed him because he cared. Great video RRG!👍🏽
Hammer was an amazing performer, energy thru the roof and an asset to hip hop. I still listen to his music and be amazed when watching his videos how he brought the heat in ALL of his performances. There will NEVER be another Hammer! Thanks for this update
This was a great video! I'm Gen X and from the Bay Area so this hits so close to home. I don't think his home was $33M. I believe it was $10M but he was coming up on $3M in renovations and his net worth at the time was $33M so people were questioning his business and finance acumen because he was making horrible financial decisions at the time. He lost the rest of his money from bad investments and being a nice, generous guy, giving away a lot to employees and members of his entourage. This video portrayed his heart which has always been kind. We used to always hear about all of his good deeds around The Town. He will always be a hero in the 510, and I'm so happy to hear he rebounded in Tech. ❤
Thank you, yet again, for a video with so much information. Hammer was what we needed at the time. He gave you a full length production. Glad to hear that he has been moving forward even if the media keeps playing the same narrative.
Was with Burrell for a few months while Navy back in 1984, he was a great guy! Talked about when he made it big how he was going to take care of the people in his Oaktown and the Bay Area in general. He didn't talk about making money or becoming famous to get the chicks or the cars, he talked about helping out people that he loved , that he respected. And that was coming from a 20-year-old man back then. I'm grateful for the time that I got to spend with him one-on-one on night shift. When the work was slow, Burrell was practicing his dancing moves, Yeah, in the Navy uniform., He was a very passionate guy, wanted to help everybody out, but for me, I questioned him a lot, we were in the Navy right? And while he could definitely dance and talk, I used to ask him are you trying to sing or what? He would tell me no, I don't sing, I'm just telling a story though. All this as he was keeping the beat with his mouth, dancing, twisting, sliding across the floor, lol great times! Yeah, he deserves much more respect, I didn't find out he was MC Hammer until 1995, and boy did I flip out when I found out! Much love and respect to you Stanley kirk Burrell! Oh yeah, something people don't talk about at all... Thank you for serving our country, and thank you for being a cool supervisor, you never treated me like a subordinate, you treating me like a partner back then, thank you MC!
I remember when people called Hammer a "sellout" due to getting endorsement deals back in the day. And now look at all of these rappers trying to do the same thing. I wasn't a fan of "Hammer", I was a fan of the man behind the name because he looked out for a lot of people. Damn, imagine if Hammer invested in UA-cam in the beginning!!!
Please do a video on Jewell (Death Row Records)! She has recently passed away and it’s so sad how her career never took off! She was pretty much forgotten about, until she started doing interviews a couple months ago.
Speaking as a person from the Bay Area I am so happy that Hammer is doing well unfortunately many of today’s rapper’s will be long forgotten because of the lack of maturity and knowledge both of which many rapper’s of today lack they live in the here and now and have a microwave mentality !
I was a manager of a record store when Hammer was killing it. He gave a concert in the small town I worked in and actually put a young man on in that town. He took him on a few tour stops. Why Jay Z acting like what he said wasn’t offensive. It was and he knows. Glad Hammer clapped back. There was overwhelming jealousy from the hip hop community over Hammer’s success. Damn shame too. He was a good dude and made a way for others who might not have even been known. I think it was the crabs in the barrel effect. Glad the sabotage didn’t work, but he still riding high. TOO LEGIT!!!
@@mrblango101 basically. He hides it well, but he gives off "sulking" in private or trying to be passive aggressive. Damon Dash says it all the time, it's just that Damon's exterior always gives off he's salty because of what Jay Z did strategically and a little cold but business-minded with Rockafella. To me, it still never meant...that Damon was wrong about Jay Z. LOL. Salty doesn't automatically mean someone (Damon in this case) was wrong w/his observations- just only means he was salty.
Because Jay Z wants to drive home the point in a VERY passive aggressive way that Hammer is irrelevant now, SO his rap lyrics shouldn't really "offend" him. What Jay so willingly wishes to be IGNORANT AF about is, that actually ANY man outchea with ANY ESTEEM to himself, would defend HIS OWN honor. That's WHY NASIR JONES aka NAS let that "Ether" sting his ass all through the summer it debuted, as a response to his subliminals and over attacks as if he wasn't the prolific rapper he was. NAS did NOT let those attacks go unanswered, or unresponded to, especially in HIP HOP. I believe had Nas done so and not responded, there'd be far LESS respect for Nas than currently the case. Nas showed Jay Z, that I may not have become your current "level" of success as a businessman, BUT I am one, the future belongs to anyone these days to level up even more (with Crypto, NFTs, etc) and that his MANHOOD matters and will not be impervious to insecure attacks leveraged by a man. (Jay Z) with his own ISSUES clearly, and always. Just because you "bagged" Beyonce won't ever make you viewed as attractive or even some would argue "deserving" of her. He oughta always remember REAL men defend their own honor against BS verbal crap by HIM. Period.
Oakland CA is NO JOKE. ATL got love for the BAY. Don't let Hammers smile fool you. He's so loved he doesn't have hitters on the payroll, they just hit yo ass outta love. Nobody bothers E40 either.
Thank you for such a positive report . We ofttimes spend to much time tearing one another down and or kicking them while they are down. It's refreshing to see and hear one celebrate stories of redemption. Bless your heart!!
Some may knock Hammer for the lows he had in life, but full credit to him for building his life back up. He seems to be doing well financially again, and being married for almost 4 decades to the same woman shows this man understands and respects loyalty, something sorely lacking in today's society. Props to a childhood legend 🙌🏾🔥
I LOOOVED Hammer so much growing up, you could not tell me I wasn't going to one of his background dancers when I grew up. To this day, he is one of the best artist and performers. ❤️❤️❤️

Hammer wanted to clean up Death Row's reputation? That would have took a miracle. I hope he owned the masters to the album that he did for Death Row. Most likely he doesn't. Suge made sure of that when he signed that contract.
Thank you so much for this video. As a young Aboriginal male growing up in the 90s ghetto in America the media played a big part in how we viewed things and it's good to know that was just business and that's how the media made and still makes they're money today. In the real world respectable men like MC Hammer go on to be great..Back then MC Hammer inspired me to be myself, now he's inspiring me to keep pushing and to increase my financial IQ,,,thanks. 🌹🏵🌼💐🌼🌹🌼🏵👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
in the early 90s hammer was one of the hardest working man in showbiz but many people forget he was one of those who paved the way that hip hop became mainstream it's shame he don't get credit for that! Stanley Burrell Hats off!
Hammer congratulations on your 37 year anniversary that is the most important thing you have done in your life stand with one woman and your kids I have also been married for 37 years February 9, 1986
MC Hammer also had his own cartoon, that aired on a weekend (maybe Saturday) mornings (what day may have differed regionally) There was a lot of animus for him from other rappers like Ice Cube, Ice T, 3rd Bass, etc because they saw him as "selling out" or commercializing rap. Let's see how many have their own projects, branding deals now. As much as I admire all of those MCs/rappers, they definitely showed hypocrisy with what they NOW have acquired for themselves. I think it shows how much MC Hammer was AHEAD of his TIME with being highly marketable back then, when other rappers in Hip Hop hadn't accessed all the business opportunities that could be offered to the genre. As for Jay Z, considering how MC Hammer is actually an attractive man, all Jay Z will EVER have over some men, is that he got Beyonce in courtship, was rated high in ahem- his "length" rated by Karine "Superhead" Steffans, and elevated his financial worth. What Jay Z ought to remember, is no matter how rich or richer he gets, before he pokes ANY jokes or commentary at MC Hammer, he STILL has THAT face. Nas had to remind him in the song "Ether", so Jay Z can get reminded again. No matter where Jay Z is, THERE he IS, and WILL BE, with that face. I understand there are lyrics, but swinging at folks ain't always it, because a lot more men coulda swung at Jay Z for numerous things he ain't got on them. MC Hammer had a zebra thong in "Pumps and a Bump" and all imma say is I can see WHY his wife STAYED as they say in marital vows. LOL.
Hammer is the perfect example that you can’t help everyone, specially when you down and out those same ppl you helped out don’t give a fck about you. Can’t be employing everyone just cause you want to help. Music is a business and should be dealt as such.
Thank you for covering this story. People tend to browbeat the positive people and uplift the ones who aren’t so positive. Hammer is a great guy who tried to give back to his community and that’s why he fell into financial problems back in the day.
I met him once right before he became famous, he tried to ask me out. He was a little goofy acting, but at least he was a gentleman. When I turned him down, he then stepped back, sized me up and said, "Hey look I'mma be famous, I'm a rapper, I'mma be famous, can you dance, you can be one of my dancers." Back then every guy was a "rapper." 😄😄😄I just laughed, and shook my head no. He told me his name, and I said "what!" all country like, he laughed and smiled, and then gave me one of his demo tapes and his number anyways. Needless to say I lost his info and the tape, and not too long after, he was on the radio, and TV. When I saw him and all those beautiful black people on TV at one time, I knew he was about positivity, and that he was a force of nature. I was shocked, I called all my friends telling them how I met Hammer. I was so happy for him, he actually made it! I met a lot of famous guys back then who asked me out, my shy, scary butt, turned them all down. I didn't want to get caught up in no mess.🙉🙈🙊 Yep Hammer is a genius MC, a class act, and a solid MAN. I'm truly so happy for him and his family. It would be nice if more of our men followed his example. It's not about the fall, it's about your faith, your fight, and your get up again attitude.
The IRONY!

@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodyo7863 that was Hammer's brother who was really pushing that
One thing I hate about the music industry is after your heyday is over, you're often made a joke.
He was always a joke to many tho
@@meekashabazz6135 Yeah you're right about that though. He was popular during a time when you weren't cool if you weren't "hard" as a rapper.
@Meeka Shabazz um No, u tried it though 😂
And with all that Silicon Valley interest, probably made back everything he ever lost, and his financial portfolio must be amazing.
MC Hammer was part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. The best decade for music.
Yep the 80s
Miss him love him better than Jz or anybody
Hammer was before his time! The MJ of Rap and Hip Hop and deserves all his roses and flowers. First Diamond Plaque winning Rap artist and if you were able to catch one of his shows like I did as a kid it was nothing short of extraordinary.
Hammer wasn’t a head of his time, he was exactly where he was supposed to be. That was the era of partying and dancing. After him Hip Hop became far more serious
He single handedly brought Hip Hop to the main stream. You could not go anywhere in 1990 and not hear "U Can't Touch This" & "Pray"
All these crossover Hip Hop records have Hammer to thank. Flowers are in order. 🌹🌺🌷⚘

MC HAMMER REALLY GOT RICH AND LOOKED OUT FOR HIS PPL … AND HIS PPL WAS HAPPY TO SEE HIM FALL
Sad yet TRUE! 🤦🏾♀️😔
He wasn't smart about it!
If you're worth 30mill why would you buy a 30 mill$ House? He simply wasn't financially smart!
He was stupid. Jay z looks out for all his friends and is still a billionaire. Getting rich is different from knowing how to manage money.
That crab in a bucket is still real. Sad story!😢😢😢
This is the shit that young black folks need to know, some positive things to help folks change the negatives. Much love to Bruh Hammer, his wife of damn near 40 years, his children, grandbaby (s) and family!!!! Keep on keeping on brother!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 & Way to clap back at JayZ & J's response was "Hammer is Right" 🤣🤣🤣
My favorite rapper. Still with his wife and no scandals....
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Ultimate respect must be given to MC Hammer for never giving up & making his dreams a reality! ✊🏾

When I was a kid my grandmother took me to see him and I swear he put on a performance, fireworks and all. Been to other concerts since like New Edition, Jamie Foxx and others but to date the concert still trumps them all. Great memories. Rip Grandma
I'm glad that I was able to go to his concert back in 92 yes he put on a good show
I'm so grateful to have lived through his timeless music and 2bigMC (RIP). Blessings
They actually battled once, and Hammer tore up MJ!!!
Go figure.
Maloney7: THIS point right here!

Anything else listed 🧢

Hammer is a class act. Jay-Z is nothing more than a greedy manipulator. To this day I don't see what people saw/see in his BS rapping.
Thank you for this. 🙏🏼
This man came back STRONG. Very happy for him and his family.
❤️
Thank you, yet again, for a video with so much information. Hammer was what we needed at the time. He gave you a full length production. Glad to hear that he has been moving forward even if the media keeps playing the same narrative.
Mc Hammer Is a Bad Man I Miss those Days He left us a legacy that will last forever! He Deserves His Props!
Thank you RRG. Very positive and uplifting information and video about Hammer. Thank you.

I can confirm this, I was the audio technician for Hammer and then San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee at a Silicon Valley keynote appearance.
Wow...
I didn't know he was still active in the music industry.

Jay-Z a hater
Nothing makes me happier than Hammer & His Wife’s marriage and devotion to each other 😭😇😇❤️
Thank you for such a positive report . We ofttimes spend to much time tearing one another down and or kicking them while they are down. It's refreshing to see and hear one celebrate stories of redemption. Bless your heart!!
Jay-Z can disrespect Hammer all he wants...But when Hammer came out that man was a BEAST as an entertainer and an underrated Emcee.

LOL.

Hammer is dope! I listen to his music often. I remember when he first hit the scene, we couldn’t get enough of him.
True that, he came to the music scene and never listen to know one else. His dances was some of the greatest dance of all time.
May God continually bless, and keep him and his family always. Go Hammer, Go Hammer, Go Hammer, Go Hammer. 😄✌🏽
