HMS might stand for Helmet Mounted Sight found on the Ka-50
That was my thought. Americans call them HMCS and stuff, but same concept. Turns on the helmet reticules would be my best guess.
This is correct. This panel is made 1 to 1 with all the functions necessary for combat with the KA 50

Virpil is the greatest company to ever invest in with all your gaming needs. im usually the " just get somethin cheap itll feel the same" type of person. boy was i wrong. bought cheap and was not satisfied at all but played through it just to end up having parts fail and need to buy another cheap one...... it all adds up over time. finally picked up a virpl t50 throttle and the warbird. instantly lost all buyers remorse as soon as i hooked them up. the gear is sooo good that they make most games less appealing and i want the best game to match with the best gear i have now.. i think that make sense lol

This review helped me when I was looking at this months ago. I own it now and it's fantastic. I use it for IL-2, a WW2 flight sim. It's perfect having multiple levers for throttle, RPM, mixture, radiator flaps, etc. The throttles feel great. The customization is nice. I have two complaints. The lighting is not customizable enough and the Virpil software does not allow the axes curves to be adjusted. I use joystick gremlin to get around that. I also use it in Elite Dangerous, and I use the levers to engage/disengage supercruise and hyperspace jumps, and it really gives me that Millennium Falcon feeling when jumping. I would highly recommend this. Thanks for the review.

HMS = Helmet Mounted Sight. One of my favourite features of the KA50 is being able to slave the HMS to slew the canon or Shikval.
Can you do a short video demonstrating you using this panel during a mining run in star citizen?

I want it! But I have all the controls I actually need. What I actually need to sort out now is my desk situation. I'm using a cheap standing desk from Amazon with so much hardware that I have to weight down the legs to keep it from tipping over.
I second any choice for the VKB NXT setup with the new side extension modules... Not all metal like the Virpil, but quality that doesn't require the premium price tag Virpil commands.
I’m Australia HMS is the Helideck Monitoring System. Wind speed, wind direction, QFE/QNH Barometric, Temperature, Humidity, Visibility and Helideck Motion for floating or ship deck. (Summarised from website)
My bet is Helmet Mounted Sight as mentioned by many others. That’s assuming the button isn’t to display the time (HourMinuteSecond) on screen…lol
I would love to see some videos reviewing the gladiator nxt and the modules VKB just came out for it, it looks like really great quality for a very affordable price point.
Agreed. VKB NXT (line-up) is a real sleeper. Do not underestimate them.
I'm a huge VKB Gunfighter MCG Pro fan. I'm hoping for an expanded line their. Otherwise Virpil will walk away.

The HMS switches the Helmet Mounted Sight on or off, the Auto/TS switches between Automatic and Targeting Sight. Both are KA-50 functions.

Would be perfect if you would do a walk through video on how to set up the full virpil line up with Vjoy and Joystick gremlin for oh I dont know say IL-2 and Warthunder. Yea there are videos out there but I am confident you could do it in a step by step video that even a computer n00b such as myself could actually follow and get to work.

Any idea if it's possible to remove the levers and flip them around so the reverse angle makes them handle more like throttle levers? So at full forward they wouldn't lay as flat, and full back they would sit at more of an engine idle position.
Just mount the panel on an angle and no, I don’t think that is easily possible without manufacturing a modification

I bought this + a z extension for my alpha stick (L) in my setup. Z extension for Star citizen (throttle) and the quadrant for all my microsoft simulator needs. Both came out to about 80$ US less than the 1 Throttle which was better value for me :).

I do own Virpils most of stuff but i do own Monstertech too . It has a better desk solution but i like more Virpil's clamps , they are chunky and very solid and large bumpy mats and ease of unclamping .

I still try to figure out how I could get that to work with my chair/table combination.. neither seems to work well with mounts for joysticks/throttles/panels.

@@NOOBIFIER1337 Yes :) I wish we could see it more in use though, not standing free of everything on a plain field. I want to be able to just flip the mounts left and right away and sit comfortably at my desk with mouse and keyboard. Especially for star citizen I need both.
I think I also need to replace my desk first.. due to its frames in the front of the desk, there is barely any space to sit at with a normal chair, let alone one with mounts at its side and sticks poking up.
Then it'll either be a chair like that or, because I like my corsair chair, I'll find mounts that fits my current one.
Anyway, I really like your equipment videos, keep them up :)
One of those things I got panel one... so mixed feelings but happy overall.. while you be tracking if we can use the colours 2 track state in game.... which would elevate everything game wise... also congratulations on the change.

Love your vids brother. Do you have any thoughts on using a dual Alpha setup along with a panel or throttle in SC? For the life of me I can’t make three controls work without redoing inversions and control numbers every session. I’d love to be able to run my dual Alphas plus my T50cm3 for mining but good grief it’s a PITA.

Does this panel also require 3rd party software to get full functionality out of it like the Throttle?
Neither require the software to function, just for settings and firmware
@@NOOBIFIER1337 When I had the Throttle SC only recognized some of the buttons even though they were all set up in the Virpil software and windows recognized it. I even contacted Virpil about it and they said that third party software would be needed to get "full" functionality in SC. Last I read (a while ago) was that they were working on their own solution. Judging by what you say perhaps they did find a solution. I have long since sold the Throttle to an Org mate so I can't verify.
If everything works as expected this panel would actually be pretty cool. Just a little gun shy since the disappointment with the throttle experience.

Mostly blew stuff up early on, then did other stuff.
The reason why its called the SharKa-50 control panel 3, is that Virpil/the contest winner designed it and the SharKa-50 collective with the Ka-50 (Pronounced "Ka" NOT "K - A") combat helicopter in mind.
The Ka-50 have many nicknames, one of them is "Black Shark" and is used by DCS World, hence Virpils reason to name the collective and control panel three.
You should have known that during research.
Since the Ka-50 is a combat helicopter that belongs in the aviation category and NOT the navy, (I literally have no clue why you have your navy head on when speaking aviation, perhaps its a good time to retire) it is very common, if not exclusively, to have the HMS acronym stand for "Helmet Mounted Sight".
That acronym is shared between fixed wing and rotor wing alike.
After 30 years in the military you should know that the only two excuses for not knowing what is either obvious or you have been told is lack of attention or simply lack of preparation.
Sorry for being rough on you, but if you want respect as a youtuber in the DCS community, know your stuff and do your research.
Put quality over quantity.
If you decide to go into the DCS World, just remember that there is a world of difference to fixed wing ground attack, fighter jockey, rotor wing ground attack, rotor wing transport.
Just because one is skilled in dogfights does in no way mean that that person is skilled in ground attack and vice versa.
And just because someone is skilled in fixed wing does not in any way mean that they are skilled in rotor wings.
And dont think that you are skilled in any DCS modules just because you are skilled in star citizen.
That is my experiences after eight years in the DCS community, i have seen many youtubers acting like maverick when they join in, only to fail hard and i have seen many fighterjockeys fail hard when they try ground attack and fixer´s trying rotor´s, and vice versa.
I mean, I can call it whatever I like right? Im not Russian.

AUTO / TS refers to automatic tracking / gunsight most probably.
Would have loved the switches to be generic in labelling - I have a label maker so can make my own, but would have been good to leave it generic like the others. Just my opinion.
Yeah, it would be simple also to remove the top plate, have it media blasted and powder coated again.

So almost none of those metal switches are the two way momentarys they put on the throttle or the other panels? That's a shame, when I saw it had 10 switches, if they were momentary switches AND the buttons were also on a 5 way bank like the throttle. No reason everything cant be mapped to controllers!

@NOOBIFIER1337 Well, yeah, I totally get this could be adapted rather nicely. However, I think this was sorta of a nod to chopper pilots, theme wise modeled after etc etc.
I'm suggesting that, say, take every ship in star citizen layout for buttons and stuff in various cockpits and design sort of a one size fits all generic themed one.
Or work a deal out to make one for each ship. Just spitballing ideas
I'm rather new and a bit overwhelmed with the shear number of buttons. You map them and forget where you mapped them. Then, when you figure it out, you're why did I bind it there.

honestly virpil stuff really is just that good ive been running virpl for star citizen and its always worked great i have a cm2 throttle a connie alpha stick and warbrd base and a panel #1 which are all a bit older but they all still run great

AT/TS select between automatic tracking with the Shival (sp) or a foxes sight with manual laser ranging boresignted to that sight (TS is prolly a English translation for a Cyrillic acronym)
