    I’m going to give this a try. I’ve been struggling with weight loss for awhile. Every time I’ve had sciatica and recover I gain more weight and no matter what I do I can’t lose more than 3 Lbs. and then it goes back on. I have an active job cleaning houses you would think that I shouldn’t have a weight problem so here we go I know I haven’t been drinking enough water so I’m having 16 ounces now.

    I did most of this years before and it worked! I up’d my fast and stopped working out and lost plenty of weight!! strenuous exercise released stressed hormones that kept me feeling ‘thick’ so I stopped. And when I did I lost a lot of weight. I went back to exercising many months later. This time around I’m now over 50 and have gotten into the strength training & HIIT Fads and have gained about 15 more pounds that won’t budge! No more barbells for me. Maybe I’ll just stretched or something but I’m about to cut out exercise once again and get back to serious fasting. I will let you know how it goes❤

    Your videos that I've watched in the past week have given me the push to get serious again about fasting. I initially lost about 20 pounds in 2020 doing a 19 hour fast. It took my weight down to just out of the obese range, but no farther. I continues fasting but got more discouraged and sloppy with it until now. I'm going to up my water starting now. This week I've been fasting clean up to and past 18 hours every day. Working to make it 20 hours every day. Thank you!

Extreme stress, brain fog in menopause and an emotional secret eater especially sweets….yikes. Great information I really enjoy sitting and enjoying coffee in the morning and hate black coffee so that would first and foremost be challenge #1 but would be willing to work through it for the benefits. Challenge #2 snacking while relaxing before bed which Is so bad for me. #3 how do y’all work this into get togethers with family and friends. I think that prolonged fasting is not as good for aging women with hormone problems .. I fast from 4 pm till 7 am sometimes shorter,depends how I feel ( I’m not rigorous about this)and I think that is enough, I’m not against of fasting but 20 hours is too long …we lose more muscle because we are older and we don’t have enough time to actually eat what we supposed to. How you can eat enough protein in such a short window of time?Over fasting destroyed my thyroid,..
    fasting it’s just another way of cutting calories,not eating… nothing really changes in 62 years of my life… diets don’t work… only less calories we consume… eat less we call it fasting now… we over consume, we’re over stressed and we add more stress to our bodies…

    • @DyAnnParham
      @DyAnnParham  5 місяців тому +1

      We don’t lose muscle with fasting. We lose muscle because 1) it happens as we age 2) we are not doing the things we need to do to build muscle 3) supplements and proper diet are also needed. It is a MindSet Shift! If you believe all those negatives and I CAN’Ts well, that is the proof you will produce. No need to fast for any length of time you are not personally comfortable with. But we also want to make sure we are speaking in truths.

      @@DyAnnParham I agree with a lot of things you said about the nutrition and exercise etc.but no one needs to fast 20 hours every day to lose weight and be in good health … do you think that if the woman who lost weight with prolonged fasting learns how to eat healthy and how much… is she going to stay forever in 1000 or more calories deficit to keep her weight off? I’m not criticizing fasting because I’m fasting too … it’s a wonderful tool to give a body break from eating or snacking… but it can make a lot of people to yoyo dieting and never learn how to really eat…. It’s no magic pill in fasting- not eating… body adapts to a lesser calorie and if you go back to eating more you gain everything back…

      @@Barbara-oe7yhI agree I thought I would try this but I work in healthcare where I easily get my 10,000 steps a day. I think for my hormonal health the best way I’ve found to lose my weight is by controlling my cortisol levels and making sure I’m eating clean foods that make me feel better and doing systematic yoga to control stress and stretch my body. Yes I lose weight slower about a pound a week but I feel better no menopause symptoms. When I tried fasting I felt weak and very stressed I think it depends on the lifestyle and job you have mine is high stress as a supervisor on the floor with death and dying all around me everyday walking I learned that my cortisol is the culprit for me. So this extreme fasting is definitely not for everyone I can see the benefits for someone behind a desk but not with high demand stressful jobs I feel it would just cause my body to remain in fight or flight mode even longer and add to my stress. So I do some day off from work fasts but not alternate day fasts and I eat tons of spinach and mushrooms drink lots of herbal teas to quite my mind and do so much better by just learning to listen and respect my own body just as I would any patient I am with. Another-words I’ve learned that we often neglect ourselves and don’t check in with how we feel ourselves yoga has helped me stop breath and check in I’ve lost 16 lbs in 5 months and I’m pretty happy about that. I only wish I had done it sooner in life. My advice to anyone is sooner or latter you will have to listen to your body respect your feelings and take time for yourself I do one small thing a night for myself rather that is extra moisturizer on my body a hair wrap paint my nails just something that makes me feel like I’m doing something for myself do my systematic yoga and be aware of my breath I couldn’t believe how often I held my breath under stress when I began noticing this it was crazy something would happen I’d rush at work down a hall and notice oh my goodness I didn’t breath as I ran or rushed down now even in stressful situations I say breath in my head it is crazy that I have lived this many years in this state and just now in my 50’s forced by menopause noticed just how much I’ve neglected to check in. Some say menopause is awful it is but for me it was a wake up call I say it might be the best thing that happened to me it forced me to accept my own humanity to not be able to ignore the things I ignored before to educate myself and reprogram my brain to be kinder to myself just a bit and not hold myself to unrealistic super human expectations that I would never hold any other human being too. I say if fasting is you doing something for yourself that you feel great about then certainly their is benefit in that do it. We all have to find our own path just check in and make sure you breathe. Believe it or not how people lose weight at night is thru breathing how did I not know this before? It only makes sense that our breathing has so much to do with our overall health. Good luck to everyone on your journey but whatever you do check in with how you feel past 50 it’s all about health more then diets be healthy find happy every day despite pressures in life and stretch not workout just relaxing stretches. Anything that keeps your cortisol low if you are like me that is the villain learn about it learn to control it or it just won’t matter what diet plan or workout you go on you will yo-yo right back tackle that villain and you will find the balance you need self talk is what keeps us overweight and overwhelmed when you look in the mirror instead of seeing what still needs to happen see what has happened I look slimmer in my belly or my skin looks brighter I use to say ok I need to lose more on my thighs instantly raising a response in my body of negativity and desperation and allowing the cortisol villain to once again be in control, now I don’t see that I only self talk about what has happened that is good not what is not perfect about that image in the mirror. I’m telling you all if cortisol is your villain your mind is what needs work more then anything else yoga helped me with that find what helps you and do it.

      @@debbievinsant4610 I agree with you and everyone is different and everyone has to work on her own body needs… losing weight is not always easy,specially the last 10-15 pounds… lowering cortisol is very important… I only fast between 12-16 hours or less which is kind of normal for most people… don’t eat when you not hungry… but I eat very healthy foods which I make myself usually 3 meals a day and trying to increase my protein to 100 grams…the exercise I enjoy are walking and jumping on a small trampoline and some resistance training… yoga stretches… .
      The latest research shows that we should consume more protein and do resistance training to keep our muscles… I think that a lot of women go to extreme like over fasting to lose weight but they do more harm than good… losing weight takes time… and consistency…the main thing is to do things that we can keep doing to maintain our health and weight to the end of our lives.. . I don’t think that anyone who fast for 20 hours every day can sustain that forever or learn how to eat properly without overeating or maybe even under eating…

    Doesn’t fasting 20 hours slow your metabolism? If I ignore my hunger signals at about the 15th hour, I get stressed and surely cortisol increases. This used to be called a starvation diet. Also, age old wisdom tells us that over-eating (in order to get enough protein and nutrients) at that 20th hour is causing fat storage and overwhelming our digestive tracts. Also, not exercising like lifting and other strength training FOR A YEAR will waste away muscle and bone. Autophagy can take place if you are in ketosis without starving yourself. Think about what you’re saying. Thanks for listening.

    The recommendation to stop exercising is concerning, particularly at this stage in life. The rapid weight loss people may experience with the extensive fasting recommended is likely a significant amount of muscle, which also will slow a person's metabolism. I'm not against intermittent fasting, but it needs to be done in a healthy, sustainable way.
