ESPN doesn't want their viewers to know anything about anything.

I desperately want to believe this is true, but I don't think most people want to learn about the game. Most NBA fans don't even like basketball that much, they love the drama. If the drama is lacking and there are no superstars with tons of personality people don't watch.

The fact of the matter: this is almost every sport, especially in America, with exception to baseball.
Try watching Motorsport. I’m talking all types of Motorsport, not just F1 or NASCAR, you see half the fans either lack the mental capacity to understand what good racing is, or they just use it as background noise. Extra points if it’s at the venue, because it’s even worse, half of them are just there to post and say they were there.

There’s still a huge market for people who do want to learn the game, as shown by the success of their pod and other channels like Kofie mentioned that do similar shit. The masses will be the masses

It's fine if most people don't want to look that deep into the Xs and Os. But the biggest name in the sport in Lebron sitting down and talking earnestly about this shows an entire generation of basketball fans or young hoopers that's there's this whole aspect to the sport you've probably not given much thought to but might be something cool and interesting to get into. And that can only be a positive thing for the overall dialogue of basketball.

I love channels like QB School or anything that Brett Kollman puts out. They really get into the thick of the technical side of the sport.

So glad Lebron is a part of it. I don’t think many casual fans would watch otherwise. Most fans watch the NBA as a reality tv show not bc they love the actual game

JJ's other podcast was already solid, pretty sure that's why Bron did this with JJ

Hoops tonight teaching Xs and Os made me way more of a basketball fan. I also just think you get better information. Like just a funny observation with the Celtics up 2-0 in the finals. I kept seeing all these talk so pundits and randos on twitter picking the Mavs to win the series, many of them saying Mavs in 5, because of talking points.
-Luka is having a great post season
-Celtics didn't play anybody in the east
-Celtics have fallen short in previous seasons
None of these things actually are relevant to this match-up. They are just buzz phrases to push a narrative. That's what sports talk has done.
Meanwhile, most of the Xs and Os shows i watched leading up to the finals did a detailed breakdown of how the Celtics can space the floor against the Mavs in ways the Wolves and Thunder couldn't, how they have the depth and personal to take away the Mavs strengths offensively, and why they are overall a bad matchup. And so far, everything they talked about has been an issue for the Mavs in this series. I got a way better breakdown of how the actual basketball would look and where way more correct

100% agree. All general statements and no actual analysis. Hoops talk from these major outlets is basically soap opera garble rn. I'd much rather hear about what plays and matchups are giving the Mavericks trouble than basically hear "____ is shriveling up in the bright finals light" said in 24 different ways.

I wish people like Shannon Sharpe and others would stop trying to discourage people from sticking to sports and keeping their content just about that. It should be okay to just talk about sports and speak with nuance and detail for the entirety of your show instead of venturing into gossip and trending tweets for the second half of the show like Nightcap does. Everybody doesn't have to sell their soul for viral moments that are good for twitter

I think the big difference between generic x and o program and lebron x and o program is…idk lebron? Not sure who is going to pick some random dude doing analysis over literally the best player of a generation.

you contradicted yourself .. “ it might not be everybody , but it is a niche “
is the exact reason ESPN won’t spend resources on it , no time for niches on the main channel

He would be correct, if they were just some random guys, but it's Lebron and JJ Reddick lol. Yes drama bring in all types of views, but so many people are interested in what Lebron has to say. Even his haters lol

  • @billclinton8300
    @billclinton8300 4 місяці тому

What he’s saying is true! First of the pod is boring af lol second they are talking X’s and O’s in a game where basketball is easier to play since the 60’s lol no one plays defense no one can get fouled and everyone stands by the 3 point line or drives and then kicks the ball out, there are no sophisticated offenses anymore and 3rd AJ derelict was a role player smh he talking like he was a fkn all nba player lol and lastly Kobe already did this and did it way better cause he’s way smarter and much more articulate than both of them so I would rather go back and watch “detail” on espn instead this pod
