@@JeantheSecond I would have a question for you if you love horror! Would you have a great book recommendation for someone who wants to read horror, but has never really read horror? I don't like gruesome books (so no slasher), but I love anything ghost-spirit related or possession, it creeps me out :)
@@karybooks I’d recommend trying Darcy Coates. She’s known for “cosy horror”. Most of her novels are about hauntings. She’s great for scares without being too horrifying. Just avoid Parasite (which gets gruesome at points). The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is a great classic with creepy atmosphere and not gruesome at all. If you don’t mind reading books with a young target audience, I recommend the Lockwood and Co. series by Jonathon Stroud.

Hi Jordaline, the scariest book I've read all year was How To Run Your Home Without Help by Kay Smallshaw, a non-fiction title about housework in the 50s when the English housewife had to make do without servants. For someone like me who thinks ironing is a punishment straight from hell, this book was terrifying, an endless cycle of cleaning, cooking, washing, baby-feeding, polishing everything from top to bottom, etc. I broke out in cold sweats reading this thing.
The scariest book I read in 2022 was Hide. JUST KIDDING 💀 The Slob stressed me out and would be terrifying.

@@connielewis3623 I think the marketing team did the author dirty by making it sound like an adult horror. It was more of a YA thriller then I think it would be enjoyable.

💀💀💀 I think probably the Horror novel that got under my skin the most this year was BONE WHITE by Ronald Malfi. The setting was fantastically eerie and I loved the creepy lore surrounding the remote Alaskan town.
💀 The Laws of The Skies sounds so intense, but in a way that makes me want to read it… I don’t think this book was “scary” but I was really unsettled by This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno, absolutely LOVED it.
💀I feel like the clown one is based on an infamous creepypasta

ok so i read exquisite corpse like a month ago and like it didn't SCARE me but holy shit it disgusted me and made my skin crawl and my body turn inwards and out at the same time. I also read mary and am still obsessed. Also legit I get all my recommendations from you at this point basically. but one last book that scared me this year... in the spring I had to read In the First Circle for school... honestly terrifying bc it was so massive and we had to read it so fast lmao. but you know, creepy loss of humanity or w/e. 💀

This was the year I finally delved into horror, and so I don't think I read a book that was super "scary," but I reread Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and idk something about the last chapter really disturbed me. It's pretty existential. 💀
You know, I haven't heard anyone else say this until now. I thought the same thing when I read it in high school. Something about it unsettled me quite a bit. Been meaning to go back and reread it to see if I feel anything again

Not sure what happens at the end of spine shivers… but the beginning premise is kinda what happens in the horror movie amusement 2008. Though the overall arching story with that one is a kid is seeking revenge on these girls who made fun of him when he was little. But one of the stories within the movie is a teenager is babysitting these kids and she was asking about the really big clown in the chair and the person was like what are you talking about. (Don’t recommend the movie but I’m excited to try the book)

Most scary book in my opinion in the last twenty years is a book I called … Don’t Play Games With The Builder….scary as hell.
I feel like surprised to me would be like how a book ends … or like how one series ends but connects to a completely different series by the same author. (That’s my surprise from last month!)

💀 Most of the horror I read this year wasn’t “holy shit, I’m scared”, it was more like “yeah, bring it on”. I loved My Heart Is A Chainsaw, The Hollow Places, Last House On Needless Street, and Dead Silence.
