- In this video we go on a tour of the amazing East Bay Recorders, a studio located in Oakland CA. We also get to interview owner Michael Rosen and learn how he went from graveyard shift at 7-11 to a grammy award winning producer/engineer who's worked with Rancid, Green Day, Santana, Journey, AFI, Tesla, and many many more!
A special thanks to Michael Rosen and AJ Hicks for taking the time to chat about life, music and showing me around the studio! Their details can be found below

You sir, are my hero. Fantastic (and educational).
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
So awesome, great setup
Thanks for the kind words! Michael did an amazing job putting his studio together - it’s got a great vibe and killer gear.
Love this video. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the kind words and watching! More videos to come in the near future 🤘
This place is amazing. Recorded here once and it’s top notch! Love you guys!
Loved getting to chat with Michael and take a tour of his studio! Who did you work with at East Bay Recorders?
The wiring and patching.. God bless. What a setup. I remember seeing Mr. Rosen's name on receipts when I worked at Leo's Pro Audio in Oakland. Glad he's still rocking in the Bay!
Loved hearing him geek out about his wiring! I wish I had a fraction of the cable management and organization that he does 😂
Oh man!
Agreed! Michael put together an amazing studio.
beautiful studio
Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for checking out the video 🤘
Outstanding interview and tour, thanks!
I was fortunate enough to record with my old band at Michael's previous location on San Pablo Ave 10 years ago. It was an awesome time, he was so good at it and so inspiring with how he directed the sessions, the stories he would tell, and just how simple he made it for us. A few familiar looking items in his new studio I recognize from back then. He really deserves this kind of space.
As a budding recording engineer myself, recording at the San Pablo place helped me to realize that even in a pretty humble little location you can still get great results if you have the know-how. He had also given me a few recommendations of things to try on my own sessions. One of his suggestions was to use D112s on the toms, and sure enough that's what he's got on his studio kit here.
Thanks for the kind words and checking out the video! It was such a pleasure working with Michael on this video - he was so generous with his time and the man is not only a great engineer and producer, but an incredible story teller!
Also love that he practices what he preaches! Still standing behind the D112s for the toms is killer 🤘
This studio looks amazing! One of my favorite songs of all time was recorded there. Plus, Faith No More practiced there?! SO SICK!!!
It was such a cool studio! Loved that it was also part of this really cool complex of creative music spaces! Which of your favorite songs was recorded here?
@@ChristopherBeanMusicRuby Soho by Rancid! 🤘😍
@@michaelg.woodley3732 great song! 🤘
I like his studio approach. Im planning my new setup in my garage doing it proper room within a room and whatnot and this studio is similar
Me too! I love the idea of leaning into what some might consider shortcomings of the space (bleed) and using that to help glue the track together. I’m hoping to put together a space as well at some point! All the best with your build!
Such a well thought out space and gear flow, love it, thanks for the vid!
Thanks for the kind words and checking out the video!
