One of the most inspiring and meaningful victories. After 8 Finals losses, the Lakers finally best their hated rivals in their own house and break the curse.
The single most important win in the history of the Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers franchise. FINALLY got the Celtic jinx off of their backs. There will never be a title more meaningful IMHO.
I'd like to say the Warriors in the 2017 NBA Finals, but yeah the 1985 Finals was redemption on so many levels Magic getting the title, Kareem kicking ass, the Lakers winning Game 2 after getting their asses kicked in Game 1 and finally beating the Celtics in a Finals Series and in the Garden.
AVC IV The Warriors had to add Kevin fucking Durant to "redeem" their 2016 loss. That's pathetic, and should never be compared to the Lakers victory in 1985.
After the Memorial Day Massacre (Game 1) everyone called Kareem too old to compete. Games 2-6 he showed Boston and all who watched how "old" he really was. The 🐐!!

It's ridiculous that it ended like that. Lakers are supposed to be the protagonist of the show, but it ends with the antagonist ( The Celtics ) winning. They could've done just one more season, even if it was only 5 episodes, with the Lakers finally winning it all. I'm very pissed about it 🤬🤬
Bird was my favorite player, but massive respect to Kareem and Magic! Jordan couldn't win shit until all these guys retired and people seem to have forgotten that!
Lots of strange occurrences here. -Celtics losing in the Finals. (Has only happened once prior to this in 1958) -Celtics losing in the finals to the Lakers (hadn’t happened before) -Celtics losing a championship on the parquet in Boston Garden. (Had also never happened before)
Yea all of those reasons make it the biggest win in Lakers history, maybe the biggest in overall NBA history cuz this is what finally made this a rivalry.
@@anthonyanderson9303 Arguably, the rivalry began with the Celtics' losing the Eastern Conference Championship to the 76ers at the Garden in the 1983. You will hear the first "Beat LA!" refrain from the Boston at ua-cam.com/video/RvVN1jIPNps/v-deo.html, long before the chant pervaded the airwaves, especially in the Boston market, in 1987. This game and the loss in 1984-1985 represent the two worst moments in modern Celtics' history. The 1982-83 loss, I believe, in retrospect, is even worse, since the Celts were the better, albeit younger team, overall. I say that with the highest regard for the 76ers who had a complete lineup in Maurice Cheeks, Moses Malone, Bobby Jones, Dr. J, and perhaps the most-underrated player, Andrew Tony. The Celtics would have likely defeated the Lakers, which would have given each team four titles in the '80's. The conference semifinals and championships were as exciting, and in some ways more so, than the NBA Championship. The most often forgotten/overlooked but equally devasting series loss for the Celtics happened the following year, 1983-84, when they were swept by less-talented Milwaukee Bucks. In '85, Bird was injured his hands in the previous series unnecessarily (see www.sportscasting.com/larry-bird-involvement-bar-fight-cost-celtics-1985-nba-finals/) and they had yet to get Bill Walton. Also, this takes nothing away from the Lakers' amazing run. I enjoyed watching James Worthy; he was akin to Andrew Tony. What a decade!
@@rss83073SFBayAreanah they didn’t win in Boston. They even said in this video, “unusual sight, seeing the Celtics lose a championship at home. Never happened before”. In fact it wouldn’t happen again till 2022 when they lost to the warriors at the TD Garden.
Joe Whiney! I also enjoyed the sad look on the faces of the entire celtics bench. ML Carr and Kevin McHale in particular. Even better was the fat classless pig MGP Aurebach shitting his cigar stuffed sphincter on the court. You fuck off bitch!
Till this day, the most important Championship in Lakers history, the best achievement in Kareem Abdul Jabbar's career, winning Finals MVP at age 38 (against arguably the greatest front court in NBA history, in 3 HOF's Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish), good comeback from Magic Johnson, it was a shame the year before he choke so bad, they would have been 3-0 against de the Celtics. The Celtics were really, really lucky to win one against the Lakers in the 80's. Also hate that were deny having that 86 finals against the Celtics, if there was a team that could beat that 86 Celtics, it was the Lakers, but still 2-1 against the Celtics in the 80's.
A Lifelong CELTICS Fan ... yet I was at this game thanks to fellow 3 Stooges fan Kurt Rambis , sat next to my cousin John Peter and Jim Valvanno of N.C. State . Great Memories !!!
I was 15 when this game was played, and it has to be one of the most cherished moments in my life. My dad, uncles, my brother and I watching the series together, getting depressed and heartbroken when the lakers lost early in the series and then hugging and yelling, when they finally won in game 6. My dad was always a life long laker fan, so my brother and I became die hard laker fans as well. Dad always told us how much it hurt him that Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Wilt and the old Laker teams could never beat Celtics, and how much it meant to him and his brothers to see Kareem, Magic, Worthy, Coop, Scott and team pull it off, especially in the hated Boston Garden. Back then I hated the Celtics, but I have to admit now, after all these years, I respect the hell out of Larry Bird and that Celtic team. They scared the crap out of me, and I was never completely confident we would win the game until the buzzer sounded, because they always came back. Anyways, thank you for bringing back these great memories!

One of the GREATEST moments in all of sports history. Not just basketball. The might of the Lakers bested Boston again two years later and the Celtics were THROUGH!
As a Lakers back in the day I had a huge smile on my face watching the lakers beat the Boston Celtics having some cold lemonade when the clock hit zero at my late grandparents home in Columbus Georgia back in the day
I was in second year of Med School in Los Angeles. Two years earlier I was in Boston at University. Med School was so intense I likely didn't see this game but I enjoyed the enthusiasm and Joy in Los Angeles! Great legends played on both Teams Including the coaches. Both teams respected each other. And yes the classy Boston crowd congratulates Lakers who beat their Celtics
Maaaan this James worthy was a very very good player..I keep watching these old Lakers games and realised he was as least as useful as magic or jabbar for the Lakers!!
YES. Total vindication. Giving it away in ‘84, to come all the way back in ‘85, in the dreaded Gah-den. so happy for The Captain, the most satisfying Laker championship!!
JASON WARDY especially after Kareem was a practical no show in game 1 of this series as the Lakers got ran out the building in the infamous met Memorial Day Massacre. Pat Riley even let Kareem’s dad ride the bus after that game hoping it would motivate him to wake up. And clearly it worked because he was finals MVP and the lakers finally broke the Celtics jinx.
thanks sir. I understand a lot of people loved Jordan. I just think kareem should get way more respect then he does. after all hes the NBA all time leading scorer.
Celtics - Lakers rivalry transcended borders. I grew up in communist Yugoslavia (where basketball was king) and the Bird-Magic rivalry couldn’t be contained. We loved it. We loved the NBA because of it

To my friend Andy the Boston Celtic fan. This championship was so great because the Lakers beat the best, they beat the champions! Larry Bird is a perfect example of what a true champion is! As an old Laker fan, I've always had respect for the Boston Celtics, what a great organization!
I've been a Lakers fan for 35 years due to seeing Magic play on TV as a kid and I think this is their biggest moment. The Celtics defeated them numerous times in the playoffs/finals, but not only did they defeat them here, but they did it on the Celtics' home court.

He was a Lakers assistant in the 1971-1972 season.
Thanks for reminding Brent about 1971 MVP with Milwaukee Kareem.
Greatest moment in Laker history. A lot of redemption, baby….to see Auerbach sulking was priceless..
I have watched these last two minutes many, many times over the years, and every time it's so, so sweet.
Can't believe we'll never see the Lakers get revenge in Winning Time
It's ridiculous that it ended like that. Lakers are supposed to be the protagonist of the show, but it ends with the antagonist ( The Celtics ) winning. They could've done just one more season, even if it was only 5 episodes, with the Lakers finally winning it all. I'm very pissed about it 🤬🤬
The higher ups over at HBO are probably Celtics fans lol
Bird was my favorite player, but massive respect to Kareem and Magic! Jordan couldn't win shit until all these guys retired and people seem to have forgotten that!
That's because Jordan had crappy team for years
still so sweet to watch after all these years
Lots of strange occurrences here.
-Celtics losing in the Finals. (Has only happened once prior to this in 1958)
-Celtics losing in the finals to the Lakers (hadn’t happened before)
-Celtics losing a championship on the parquet in Boston Garden.
I believe the St. Louis Hawks were the only other team to to win the title in Boston besides the '85 Lakers.
@@rss83073SFBayAreanah they didn’t win in Boston. They even said in this video, “unusual sight, seeing the Celtics lose a championship at home. Never happened before”. In fact it wouldn’t happen again till 2022 when they lost to the warriors at the TD Garden.
I enjoyed the sad look on the faces of the entire celtics bench. ML Carr and Kevin McHale in particular.
MORE WITH LES --- fuck off.
86' Celtics would've decapitated the 86' Lakers. Stop it!.
@@mrdm1967ify we'll never know, goddman Ralph Sampson hit a lucky shot
@Gregory Holden I guess we'll never know
@Gregory Holden 1987 happened lol

I was so happy to see Cedric Maxwell and ML Carr eating humble pie
Truth but you gotta love the NBA in the 80's
@MAN UTD no one asked
@M and no one cares!
@M this has got to be a bot
As a Knicks fan, I didn't like ML Carr. He was like a hatchet man, very dirty player.
I have to say it myself after watching the Lakers beat the Celtics, it was the best game I have ever seen.
A Lifelong CELTICS Fan ... yet I was at this game thanks to fellow 3 Stooges fan Kurt Rambis , sat next to my cousin John Peter and Jim Valvanno of N.C. State . Great Memories !!!
i was 8 years old when this happened man my whole block went crazy if you wasn't there then you wouldn't know the impact it had magic vs bird 👍👍
This was great as a 14 y.o. female NBA...Lakers fan!
First Finals of 2-3-2 format; something Auerbach advocated. I bet he regretted it.
Thanks for posting 🙏🏾 still makes that 11 year old boy in me happy all over again! The Greatest Championship in Lakers History! ‘85
rip dr buss rip Dennis Johnson
Tha best basketball franchise in tha NBA lead by tha G.O.A.T. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!! I luv relivin' it. Showtime baby!! 🥰🥰🥰😁😁😁
I was 15 too (1969).
This one was soooooo sweet!!!! 10 year old me was going crazy!!!
1:13 Nail in the coffin. This was the series reenactment I was waiting for. I'm pissed that Winning Time ended so abruptly and never made it this far. I absolutely HATE the greed and laziness of the Hollywood elites
This was the last game the Celtics lost an elimantion game in the nba finals at home until 2022
One of the GREATEST moments in all of sports history. Not just basketball. The might of the Lakers bested Boston again two years later and the Celtics were THROUGH!
this is arguably the Lakers greatest victory!
Never gets old love the lakers 😆
For those that say Winning Time is not accurate, the look on Red Auerbach's mug at 5:22 speaks VOLUMES LOL !!
If there was a Mt. Rushmore of final games of the NBA Finals, this one would definitely be one of the games/faces on the mountain!… No doubt!
Thank you for not only showing the last few minutes but the Complete Interviews of the Lakers and K C Jones.
Maaaan this James worthy was a very very good player..I keep watching these old Lakers games and realised he was as least as useful as magic or jabbar for the Lakers!!
It shut Cedric Maxwell's mouth also.
One Advocate Yes it did and also ML Carr as the Celtics talked too much Smack calling Los Angeles the Fakers and the march of dimes!
They deserve it but you gotta respect the Celtics
Celtics defended their crown with honor, but the Lakers weren't gonna be denied in '85
7:56 lol Kareem
That's basketball two incredible teams with amazing talent nothing like it today
And now, the 2022 Warriors join the 1985 Lakers as the only 2 teams to clinch the NBA championship in Boston.
James Worthy CHOKED the previous season 😄😄😄, revenge is sweet !!!
Yep
Magic as well, he was nicknamed Tragic Johnson.
Magic won 3 in his first 5 years Kareem 38 MVP in finals he has to get his props I remember this game I was 8 years old GO LAKERS!!
thanks sir. I understand a lot of people loved Jordan. I just think kareem should get way more respect then he does. after all hes the NBA all time leading scorer.
7:58 musberger dissed the fk out of Kareem.
One of the most, if not the most, satisfying Laker championships in their history.
Just pure class, from both teams. the class of the NBA.
Celtics - Lakers rivalry transcended borders. I grew up in communist Yugoslavia (where basketball was king) and the Bird-Magic rivalry couldn’t be contained. We loved it. We loved the NBA because of it
This is how they should’ve ended the HBO show
Crazy to believe that Boston would only win 2 more titles after this & get caught by the Lakers with 17🏆!!! Go LAKERS!!!
The Celtics might never win title 18 I believe the lakers will do it sooner than 10 years
The Captain’s finest moment.. They called him out and he showed them who the greatest ever was..
There isn’t a team today that could come close to either the Lakers or Celtics of the 80’s. Two of the greatest teams of all time.
86 Celtics and 87 or 85 Lakers were serious as well as 83 76ers could easily be top teams of all time
Truth!
AGREED 1000%
Back in the day I was very happy with tears of joy watching this at my late grandparents house in Columbus Georgia on their CBS affiliate WRBL channel 3 plus drinking some cold lemonade when the clock hit zero then the most greatest movie that year the last dragon
To my friend Andy the Boston Celtic fan. This championship was so great because the Lakers beat the best, they beat the champions! Larry Bird is a perfect example of what a true champion is! As an old Laker fan, I've always had respect for the Boston Celtics, what a great organization!
BEATING THE CELTICS AT HOME,, AMAZING 1985 LAKERS WHAT A TEAM !!! 86 Celtics WOW 87 LAKERS what teams those 3 years 1986 Celtics at home 50 and 1
I've been a Lakers fan for 35 years due to seeing Magic play on TV as a kid and I think this is their biggest moment. The Celtics defeated them numerous times in the playoffs/finals, but not only did they defeat them here, but they did it on the Celtics' home court.
I have been a lakers fan since 5 years old. I started with Kobe/Shaq to Kobe/Gasol to Lebron/Davis. But looking over at history of the Lakers it was all against Boston
I wondered how Larry Bird felt to be the first team leader to lose a championship at the Boston Garden.
I have no idea since I wasn't old enough to know.
+Donny Mckinnon sore loser lol
Stop liking your own posts Masshole. First of all you're wrong. Sadly, Jerry West lost a Gm 7 against the C's in 1969 at the Forum, though he rightfully was named MVP of the series ANYWAY. And the game seven in 1966 was in Boston you fucking nitwit.
Magic Johnson Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Jerry West and Elgin Baylor also lost a championship in the Boston garden
Bonita Boggan ---- fuck off.
4:05....I love that Magic clapped for Bird as he exited the game. That's one competitor showing respect for another. Gotta love it.
The Lakers had NEVER beaten Boston before. All those finals defeats to Boston in the decades leading up to this historic moment of Laker GLORY!!!
Makes up for the '69 loss at the Forum.
How great was Kareem. Glad I got to see him play.
Back in the day watching this game at my late grandparents house in Columbus Georgia on their cbs station WRBL Channel 3 it put a big smile on my face as a lakers fan
And Now Lakers and Celtics are 17 Title apiece.
This series proved Kareem was the best GOAT
Magic averaged 14 assists, dude. Easy to say when you're getting fed by the greatest point guard in history.
@@redpillfreedom6692 Kareem won a championship with an expansion team when magic was in middle school
@@kennethberoid3791
He had Oscar Robertson, buddy. Second best PG of all time. Also they faced a 42 win team in the Finals.
Lakers won the championship without him in 1980
@@redpillfreedom6692 Whats your point Basketball is a team sport. Oscar as great as he was did not win a championship until he got to Milwaukee with Kareem. Jordan did not win until Pippen got to Chicago still does not mean they were not the best to ever lace them up.
June 9th 1985 was a great day for Los Angeles!!
after the huge letdown in 1984 finals, this was a cathartic moment
Wow I turned 10 years in ‘85 remember it like yesterday,Lakers fan here since the Lakers beat Philadelphia in 1980
The golden era of basketball.
I love the early 2000's Lakers with Kobe & Shaq but nothing compares to those Celtics-Lakers rivalries and basketball in the 80's. It truly was the golden era of basketball indeed.
90s was goated
they're still fucking good
But damn 90's - 80's were fucking great
@@erenv4371 true but 80s was kinda overrated
I hated that I missed this game, but the win was so sweet.
Brent denying Kareem the greetings to his love ones after the interview. Oh well enjoy the celebration Lakers all the way all day!
If you're old enough to have watch this game and remember this series and all the circumstances involved between 1984 and 1985 you would appreciate mich more than todays game, which is dope too⬛
Probably one of the closest in terms of circumstances is the 2016 ring
Lakers should've swept the Celtic in 1984
Real Talk! And Bird said so- after that final gift of game 7.......
Bottom line is LA whipped em 2/3 and yes...should have swept em. Lakers of the 80s the greatest of ALL TIME
ABSOLUTELY! I remember that SERIES like yesterday. The LAKERS should have never called a time out after McHale missed that 2nd free throw. Magic got the rebound. That's where we want the ball. And M aw gic was an excellent free throw shooter. It still bothers me we lost that series. It would have been a sweep. We gave that SERIES away!!
It wouldn't have been a sweep, but I think the Lakers win in 6 or 7 if James Worthy doesn't throw the errant pass which was stolen by Gerald Henderson.
@@oneadvocate9517 They would have swept them. They would have been going back to LA up 2-0. The air would have been knocked out of their balloon. Their confidence would have been shot. And the LAKERS rarely lost at home in the 1980S. SHOWTIME was in high gear at the FORUM!! The series would have been over very early
