@@shehanagaraj1063after Magic hit this shot, I used to practice it. Same bank. Surprisingly it went it quite often. 😂. I never did get a chance to shoot this type of shot in a league I used to play in but I did hit a half court shot. I used to practice it too.
It was a half time shot though. Somebody yelled lucky shot. Since we went out to shoot practice shots before half time ended, I threw up another half court and it went in. 😂. Heard some ooh’s then silence.
In the 80's lakers own the Celtics 😅
True.
However, as a Lakers fan, I was elated. Incredible shot by Magic.
Refs effed up but it took an amazing shot to take advantage of the gift from the officials.
I remember watching this game live on TBS, I went nuts when Magic hit the shot. It was then shown on tape delay on the local channel here in L.A. a couple hours later. My sister, not knowing the game was on a delay thought the game was live and thought the game was over with 3 seconds left, I bet her 5 bucks that the Lakers would win. Easiest five bucks I ever made!!
Great story! 😂
You past-posted your sister! Nice!
IT WAS NOT EASY
I remember this play very well. I was waiting for my order while the fast food restaurant had the game on and saw the final moments including this play. I went "Man, Magic Johnson did it again, yeah".
I remember watching this as a child, screaming in joy Magic was the man.
Great Rivalry. Won't see that again.
Watched this game with my Dad....was 15 years old.....and back then I think KHJ/KCAL 9 aired the east coast games on like a 1hr delay so it wasn't live. But you never knew because there was no going online or looking up the scores on cell phones back then. I remember my Dad and I jumped up and yelled after Magic made that shot and my Mom came running into the room thinking something bad had happened. Good memories.
The best regular season NBA game I've seen to this day still. Yep, it was on channel KHJ channel 9. Over 30 years later, still as exciting as watching the game that night on channel 9.
Sounded like good ol' Chick was a little cranky that night, both on and off mic. "Susan, why the rush to commercial??" "Tell me now!"
Sure was. He was definitely tensed up.
This was recorded from a satellite feed... I always got to hear Chick during "commercial " time. He ruled these telecasts with an iron fist... he'd occasionally get upset about something every now and then, but this was as tense as I ever saw him.
@@bd001217 There must have been some great moments off air from the Golden Throat.
@@jph4852
You got that right! There were a bunch when they were ON I can only imagine when they were OFF!!! Poor Stu. He really had to sit there and take it from Chickie now and then. But hey it came with the territory! Gotta love Chickie!!!
🎙🏀🏆👍🏼
Well, the "Tell me now!!" was perfectly justified. The other I didn't hear.
How many huge 3’s did Michael cooper make for the showtime lakers?
ALOT!
Almost as many as Horry
I watched this game on a little black and white tv in college. Years later, I remember that Van Exel last second shot in the Garden that reminded me of this one.
Love Chick Hearn’s play by play. Used to go to bed with a transistor radio listening to Chick calling the Laker games.
I arrived in California on this date....wow what memories.
What a nightmare !!! So sad you live in that shithole California !!
Great to hear Chicks voice.
Loved that game. I forgot that Ainge missed that last free throw. Sweet.
saw this game live on TV. great regular season game.
coop not in the HOF is a shame. that game tying 3 alone showed how clutch he was and how his team trusted him in crucial moments.
Splendid As It Is
Magic
Put that one in the 'fridge Chickie Baby. LAKERS🏀
Both this and game 4 had controversial very questionable calls at the end but magic still deserves credit for making the shots.
I guess. But they were chances he never should have had still. He came up short w/o ref aid.
And beat Boston was a best dream in those fantastica years
What an incredible game this was. This was the Hamlet the Great testament to the greatest basketball ever played
Saw this game live with my best friend who was a Celtics fan😅
Damn i miss Chick Hearn
I just loved the look on the Celtics face when magic hit the game winning turn around 3
4 Celtics who made the Hall of Fame hanging their heads in defeat after Magic made that amazing shot! All 5 of the Celtics’ starters from 85-1987 are Hall of Famers except Danny Ainge, current GM of the Utah Jazz.
Magic playing DEFENSE down the stretch. He’s the 🐐, still!
Cooper with that cold blooded, clutch 3
Saw this game live on TBS or TNT when I was in 6th grade. Remember jumping up and down on the couch when Magic hit that shot
I, too, thought the Celtics were going to win. When Magic hit that shot, I jumped off the sofa and started screaming like a madman. I opened my back door and kept on screaming. Great warm up for Kirk Gibson's walk off homer several months later.
RIP chick Herns we truly miss you
Magic's *other* Celtic killer shot
5:53 As a Laker fan, watching the ☘️ fan in utter exasperation stand up & do a 360 after the 🏀 banked in wearing a light colored long sleeve shirt 👔 behind the basket (near the white arm of the goal) was and always will be a thing of beauty
chick hearn: best bball announcer ever. so fast and precise
Great shot! Good memories :)
Tragic Johnson? I guess the Boston people spelled "Magic" wrong.
Indeed they did
Lol!!
That time out call would probably have been overturned today
Or the network would throw in a TV time out 😀
*"Tell me NOW!"* ☺
Celts ate all there luck up in the 84 series against the lakers ....Though the 86 Celtics were a very good team .
Lol very good team? Only one of, if not the greatest team of all time!
So good the Lakers purposely tanked the houston series to avoid giving Boston the satisfaction of aveniging the 85 finals. The 87 series was a pure mismatch with how decimated Boston was.
Yeah baby.....L.A. 4 LIFE
Great shot, previous bad call by ref on Ainge missed free throw.
I know huh? That was total BS! The refs were sooo for the Lakers back then, very very questionable call.
I'm a Lakers fan and it did look questionable.
Susan response was…. Last I checked Chicky, we have sponsors. not like anyone was sticking around for a post game interview…..lol. I remember this game. I completely forgot about this shot.
Another great magic moment
I love Chick off the air !
Best teams, best emotions.
Man do I miss Chick Hearn.
Listening to Lakers games now isn't the same. Chick was the best!
@@Setzer777 Yes he was!!
Loved that NBA era.
The real NBA
Best teams ever
Seen this game live KHJ TV laker channel 9 hosted by chick Hearn and Stu Lantz...
I was 14 here in LA and jumping in front of the tube after magic made that happen..
Good times...
Still the greatest regular season NBA game I've ever seen. It was back and forth all night. Chick Hearn could be cranky on and off the air. Stu got it on the air, director Susan Stratton off the air. Good old channel 9.
@@gregrambo606 Yep, those were the days
I was 12 years old, and a diehard Celtics fan when this happened. I remember getting in trouble for pitching such a temper tantrum!
That's why Magic's a HOF'er.
Love chic hern
That was truly magical
Wow!!! I remember that shot and game!!!
I remember watching this game on TBS. The Lakers were down by 20 something and they had already named Fred Roberts the player of the game. But that Magic took LA to the promise land lol
TBS? I don`t think so
@@Playsinvain yup, this was nationally televised on TBS. Bob Neal did this game for them. ua-cam.com/video/dq7YkFvdp2E/v-deo.html
@@Playsinvain What you see on this video was the local LA broadcast. Chick Hearn did not announce the game for TBS... Hope that helps. 😉
It didn't play on TBS.
@@oldiesgeek454 this is very true. Because I want to say the TBS broadcasters were Skip Carey and Bill Russell or maybe even Tommy Heison. I only say Skip because he was constantly doing Celtics games on TBS with BR or TH. Or it could have been Dick Stockton doing play by play because he worked for them as well.
The Beginning of the End for the Boston Celtics.
All setup by Ainge's missed free throw
But that very well could have been a 3 pointer Magic didn't get credit for...
Not his fault, it was the stupid refs.
Had ainge not choked on the 2nd FT, this would have gone to OT.
Don't blame him, blame the refs for screwing up the call.
Magic and Bird were equals most of the time. They even gave bird 3 straight MVPs so Bird was the man in the 1984-1986 range but by this point and until Jordan won in 1991, it was Magics league
It's a kind of Magic
I remember watching this as a teenager, I'm still wondering if magic Meant to hit the class on that, he probably did. The 80s was the Golden Age of basketball in my opinion !
Good game.
When the Celtics lose, everyone else wins!
I watched this game at age 7!!! I am 40 now
Chick always gave Susan hell. Miss them all.
"Boston back to back losses in the Garden". LOL
Off the glass, kid of lucky 🍀 there💪🏼
Bad call at 2:50 set the whole thing up.
Love it....Eat that Celtic fans...IN Boston sooooo sweet!!!
@christopher hennessey It's ok, the Lakers have lost the most NBA finals ever and the only team to lose 3 straight finals, 1968-70 😆
@@Mrd9960 L. The Celtics have won one championship in almost 40 years.
@@Mrd9960 the Lakers are the greatest franchise because they have the most in the modern era (1979 -). I love Bill Russell he's easily in my top 3, but there was little to no player movement back then, for example, if you had the best team in 1964, then you would have the best team in 1965, and halfway throughout his career u had the ABA, so he didn't play against the best competition. I root for neither LA or BOS so no bias here.
@@anthonynegron788 Completely disagree, there was very good competition back then, because you had fewer teams, there were very good players on most teams, the Lakers had great players, a super team in 69 and still couldn't beat the Celtics, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, there were great players then because there wasn't expansion to water down the league.
It’s ok. The Lakers are almost universally recognized as THE greatest franchise in NBA history.
This is why magic is the goat at the point, not curry..
Boston got screwed out of a win.
I was listening to this game on AM radio with Most doing the commentation , about a second after that shot went in , the feed just stopped . someone broke something .
"Susan, what is your hurry to get to the commercial?" Fricking Chick.
