Animal Skull Carving

  • Enjoy this short video of my very first attempt in skull carving art!
    To be honest choosing a giant animal such as a buffalo as my first attempt in skull craving may have been a poor choice, I think learning on something a bit small such as a deer, coyote or even rabbit may of been a smarted decisions. I also wish I took a bit more time in the design stage, I feel the final product has a bit of a cluttered feel to it. All in all I am very satisfied with the outcome and I know I will be able to learn from this one to create an even better one next time.
    Tools:
    Dermel- mostly used a tile cutting bit. (I found that this removed the most amount of material in the shortest amount of time.) I also used a very small round bit for some of the more detailed areas.
    Drill- standard cordless drill with various sizes of bits.
    Tub and tile epoxy paint for even white coat.
    3/8" burlap rope and hot glue to cover the horns
    Music:

    Spraying hairspray onto your pencil lines will prevent them from smudging when you grinding. Awesome work. Rock on.

    That is awesome! Good job!
    Amazing detail!
    I do a lot of European Mounts, mostly whitetail deer but I have done several moose as well.
    I've been asked to carve on a scull but have never tried it.
    I have a couple old deer sculls that are mine...I think I might just have to experiment with them!

      I found tile cutting bites worked the best, but I just recommend trial and error its the best way to learn. Thank you so much for your comment, it means a lot !

      Hey, I'm glad you liked it ! The tools you need are pretty basic and I'm sure you can find them almost anywhere. If not you can find them online easily. You will need a dremel and tile cutting bits for the dremel I found work best !

      Oh thank you. Actually very difficult most areas of the Buffalo skull are very thick so there was no need to worry.

  • @OnlySimpFor2D

    Would it be doable to carve smaller skulls like raccoons, rabbits and groundhogs, or would they break? I'm thinking about starting to carve some skulls, but I find most of mine in the woods.

    • @project.prototype
      @project.prototype  3 роки тому +1

      I've seen people carve smaller skulls like racoon and rabbit I imagine they are more brittle so you'll have to use smaller tools and be more delicate but I'm sure it would be great practice 👌

    I want to make a guitar with the skull of a cow but I don't know if it will resist the friction of the neck with the strings, what do you say?

    • @project.prototype
      @project.prototype  Рік тому +1

      I think it would be really difficult to support the neck in a way that could handle the tension. Not saying its impossible but may need a custom steel structure to adapt the two.

    How do you do this without the smell

    • @project.prototype
      @project.prototype  3 роки тому

      I haven't found a solution for that yet. A half face mask helps a bit. You could try putting something that smells good inside the mask so you breath that instead.
