I've always found experience to be the best teacher. When I first started doing trim carpentry my boss always told me "if you aren't fucking something up, you aren't learning anything new".
Exactly. I started out painting miniatures for Warhammer 40k and I just learned through trial and error. I guess I got pretty good, because some of the people at the hobby shop I went to decided to pay me to paint their armies. Just keep at it and you'll get where you're going.
I realize I'm a little late to this party and I'm not sure if anyone has already said this in the comments, but I have a fun fact about why bone reacts so strangely to pigment and ink. Because the bone is a tissue in the body that contains blood vessels and such, it is very porous. These tiny holes and channels in the bone are why some of it is smooth and other parts are rough. The ink (or also paint) gets sucked into the bone because the holes can sort of act like a rigid sponge if that makes sense. Putting house paint on the skull was actually super smart because it is so thick that it probably also sealed the bone to even it out. Nice accidental science in this video!! 👌
I stopped drawing for almost a year now due to lack of interest and busy school work, as well as stop watching your videos, but just because your video shows up on my recommendation, I started to draw again. You're an inspiration
The skull turned out great. Love the contrast. I picked up a few of those pens, I liked the idea. I was paranoid that they would leak on my almost complete drawing. I'm glad I tested them first before destroying my art.
Peter Draws this is beautiful! will you ever make any more of these? I don't even know if you sell your work, I'd sell my soul for a piece of your artwork xD
Personally, my backyard. Or the dog goes into the woods and brings back femurs, rib cages, skulls. But if I went down the trails I could easily find them myself, if there's bears where you live, and you're near a forest, it's not _too_ hard!
You can find bones on ebay. boneyardak@gmail can be contacted, they often have smaller skulls like fox, beaver and pine martin available. Be very weary of anyone selling raw bear bones or other parts. It is against the law.
when i die, can you paint my skull, too? I'm not a Bear, so it's not THAT cool. But maybe cool enough? if you want to, you can have my whole skeleton, as some kind of compensation of coolness. and i don't really need it when i'm dead anyways...
I'm always looking stuff up online to see what the best way to do something is - so this is a lesson I need to learn. Fortunately my dip pen experiences are either video-taught, or I'm just learning on my own. (For example: Liquitex inks work great in aquashes, but not in my dip pen :/)
how do you prep it? i tried to paint a coyote skull and the paint kept chipping off? also ideas for what is hould do to keep the teeth from getting paint on them? id like to keep them natural. also do you sell skulls you paint? id never be able to do a design like this without messing it up xD
I like the silvery white paint on this one. The design looks sort of like Old West filigree work and Art Nouveau. Nice. I would have left the teeth either natural, or just black. But hey, I like the rest of the skull.
i tried something similar with a deer skull i found in the woods, only with colors on the black and i just used some brushes and paint. I like the way the paint pen looks better however, the lines are really nice and consistant and fine. It was much harder to get a nice fine line with just a paintbrush. I will have to remember this if I ever paint on a skull again, now that i think of it paint pens seems like such a obvious choice! Of course skulls aren't really easily found around here so i'm not sure i will get the oppertunity again any time soon...unless i buy one or something :p

I use this paint pen as well, mostly for highlights in larger sections in my art. But perhaps you could put the cap on, and have the tip upright as you shake. Also I think there is a plastic seal towards the cap, that tells you not to remove it. I store my paint pens horizontal, instead of vertically. I had trouble once when I forgot to store it in my art supply drawer. I just popped that bad boy into a pen jar, tip downwards mind you, I had some major clean up once I opened the cap.
I definitely did remove that seal on one of the pens, just because the stream egged me on, and we all wanted to see what was underneath. But I don't think any of the leaking came from there. The tips of the pens seem to be able to slide out of the pen real easy. Still good paint pens when it comes down to it though.
I'd totally buy that. I love your art work and style. your sense of humor is a lot like mine too. any suggestions for someone who tries to just doodle like you but stays in the head to much. I over think things and try to make everything so perfect that I end up just screwing it all up ha ha. Anywho, any advice would be greatly appreciated and please keep the awesome work and videos coming!
Yeah, I used to use those touch pens for highlights. I didn't have a lot of money (I don't still, who are we kidding?) so when they broke and started leaking I would make a pool of ink and dip the pen tip into it. :)
My 7th grade science teacher told us a story about him killing a bear and then putting his skull in a bucket of acid. In detail he told us what it smelled like when he opened up the barrel after a month. The dead and rotting scent. He showed us the skull and honesty that whole story is probably the reason why I need therapy.
do you have any advice on how to learn more patterns for drawing things like this how to ''train'' your mind so you can draw patterns freely just like you
Random suggestion but what if you did a coat of paint on a skull and then chipped/scratched away the paint to leave the design. That way you would have a contrast in color and have the original skull showing but not kill your pens. And if the paint started to chip off in places you don't want it to a layer of sealent should fix that. Idk just a suggestion, I've never worked on skulls so I'm not sure if it would work.
I've always found experience to be the best teacher. When I first started doing trim carpentry my boss always told me "if you aren't fucking something up, you aren't learning anything new".
^ truth
The
you are completely right! you can apply that to everything, im a skater and once your're out of your comfort zone thats the place you learn the most
Exactly. I started out painting miniatures for Warhammer 40k and I just learned through trial and error. I guess I got pretty good, because some of the people at the hobby shop I went to decided to pay me to paint their armies. Just keep at it and you'll get where you're going.
out of all the skulls that I saw you design, I like this one the most
I realize I'm a little late to this party and I'm not sure if anyone has already said this in the comments, but I have a fun fact about why bone reacts so strangely to pigment and ink. Because the bone is a tissue in the body that contains blood vessels and such, it is very porous. These tiny holes and channels in the bone are why some of it is smooth and other parts are rough. I love the little "post mortem" thing XD
I love how you put postmortem at the end of it. I thought you were drawing on a living bear skull until I saw that!
I never thought I liked drawing until I watched peter's videos. Amazing!
me too me too
:)
I've always loved the look of white on black.
I stopped drawing for almost a year now due to lack of interest and busy school work, as well as stop watching your videos, but just because your video shows up on my recommendation, I started to draw again. You're an inspiration

Yeah it never hurts to test and experiment a little (or a lot). Really this whole thing was a test, you know?
At first I wondered why you didn't paint the inside of the nose area but on second thought it's kinda cool that you can see the original bone.
Beautiful.

Peter Draws this is beautiful! will you ever make any more of these? I don't even know if you sell your work, I'd sell my soul for a piece of your artwork xD
Dude !! Looks insane ! So awesome ! Bless u always
I feel blessed. Thank you.
Personally, I was hoping for a metallic silver. But the gold turned out good, too.
The best thing in his videos isnt the drawing, its the commentary. Love this kid
The gold was nice. The white inner nose area was a bit weird though like it was unfinished. it would have been cool for that to be black or gold too.
what u said
The skull turned out awesome and the gold on the teeth was a perfect choice. Seriously cool
it turned out wonderfully! the golden teeth fit the black so well.
I love seeing white on black, and the gold on the teeth was a nice touch!
you should make the designs colorful like a sugar skull on a black skull that would look awesome
As soon as I saw what could be done with these pens on this video and the baby doll video I went on amazon and bought these pens. You're amazing
He reminds me of Bob Ross for some reason
Zero Peter is the Hipster Bob Ross.
Why because he talks soft has poofy hair and draw Something???
I'm buying a skull right now, this is genius. I hate copycatting, but I dig your style and how innovative you are.
Peter is the greatest
The8BitPhoenix nah, but he's pretty chill tho
I love the asymmetrical approach to this one.
this piece is absolutely gorgeous!! great job as always!
Watching your videos is so relaxing and wonderful
i like how u talk (voice over) during the time lapse😊
man I love looking at ur hands transform simple things into art ... but I guess that's what are is. Keep doing what u do!!!! :D
This is absolutely fantastic.
Where in the world do you get these bones?
Bones depot.
Personally, my backyard.
Or the dog goes into the woods and brings back femurs, rib cages, skulls.

ah the struggle of inner city living. the only skulls my cats find are mice and pigeon and they just break them.
He killed a bear.
this is gorgeous. it inspires me as an artist.
Your art is amazing

Your voice is sooo mesmerising, it's very interesting to listen to.

did you mean "never cease to amaze me"?
Gorgeous. Nice work, Peter
😲😍 BEAUTIFUL!!! I love it
Looks AWESOME
is the video slightly rotated?
look at the corners.
drawing on a skull(postmortem of course) just sounds amazing. Wish I could buy a skull somewhere (for art reasons)
the gold teeth were a nice touch... it's like you gave him... bear grills
your voice is so calm and satisfying
That is very beautiful.
That's soooo awesome!!! Love it!
Amazing work, Peter! Now, how in the world did you acquire the skull?
He's the new age bob ross
this is beautiful. i love your videos. Beautiful art.
Beautiful!
Love the skull work pieces
Boo! We will have to put it in our phones. Her first name is Megan and we'll have to find the spelling of her last name
Oh god I am so happy you titled the video postmortem, cause at first I was pretty scared!

"My neighbours are screaming."
Suuuree Peter, your "neighbours"

This title is a lot better, good job!
Man, just got into your videos and u really deserve more subs, keep up the good work!
your videos are just freaking insane!!!
i love it!

This dude gives me life

also do you sell skulls you paint? id never be able to do a design like this without messing it up xD
great piece love watching you work. for paint next time you might try spray paint for getting in all the crevices.
You have great drawing. Great videos.
your voice is so soothing
You are my new favorite person.
beautiful!
it'd be so awesome to own something like this
"can you hear my neighbors screaming? my neighbors are screaming."😂
You could always try sanding the skull prior to using pens to give it more consistency in surface texture.
I love your videos and you're very inspirational

JEEEEEEEEEEEZE. DOPITUS. I wonder what the biggest thing you will snoogle doodle draw on is. A wall? A butt? A trenchcoat?
"Did you hear my neighbors screaming?" Ah screw it lol
i tried something similar with a deer skull i found in the woods, only with colors on the black and i just used some brushes and paint. Nice work Peter. Lots of your swirls in this artwork resemble the native New Zealand Maori tribal designs; might be worth checking out!
looks sorta like a sugar skull...
pretty cool! i wish i could freehand designs like that lol
that is pretty awesome

I agree.
I adore your work darling, have a good morning/noon/night.
"Huzzah!"
Liquid gold leaf is the best wet gold medium out there it stays so true to gold

Now I'm going to have nightmares of THE BEAR!
Yeah, I used to use those touch pens for highlights. I didn't have a lot of money (I don't still, who are we kidding?) so when they broke and started leaking I would make a pool of ink and dip the pen tip into it. :)
Omg I have the same exact triangle Tattoo that you have . The only difference is the placement. It not on my inner thumb, but on the outside !
It turned out great Peter =)
Thanks Albert :)
dude you are so badass. I'd be surprised if you didn't have problems with your shoulder after this one
Did you dip it? It seems like you did a great job getting the paint everywhere.
GREATSTUFF!
it looks cool I remember you sold a skull with a drawing on it
It's awesome.

Awesome
Can you hear my neighbour screaming?
...well played Peter...no one will ever know...
Very cool!!!
ur amazing always love ur art
I like this, it looks like tamoko from my culture (Maori). Good work.
I always wondered where they got the colour for little black dresses.
*hears neighbour-screams*
*proceeds to draw on the bear skull calmly*
Does he ever sell his work? I'd love too see some sort of collection video of all his cool types of art but I also wouldn't mind buying a few
