If they'd never made another Saw movie, that ending was still perfect. Shocking, disturbing, depressing. Incredible ending for a movie like this. I remember everyone in the theater lost their minds when Jigsaw stood up.
I'm a HUGE Saw fan. It's my favorite horror franchise. I am so excited that both Petty Pumpkins and The Horror Bandwagon are reacting to the Saw movies. Literally made my month.
The original SAW and many of the entries were aggressively low budget. The bathroom was the one built set since they need all the angles and spent so much time there, so you'll probably be happy it was never an actual public bathroom. In subsequent entries, they often would build many constructed sets in a warehouse. They took advantage of this in that sometimes sets were so close to each other, they could do a live camera move from one set and scene to another where it looks like a complicated optical "wipe", but was performed entirely in-camera which saved some budget money. And despite being very bloody, the original SAW was surprisingly judicious with what gore is actually visible (potentially also due to budget) suggesting much more than is ever shown until Dr. Gordon's foot which made it even more impactful. They got bigger effects budgets in the sequels! "Cut off a bit of the heel and it will" - never thought a Saw reaction would have an _Into the Woods_ reference!
I love the twist of not covering your eyes. Not easy! House of a 1,000 Corpses and Wolf Creek would also be good candidates for that eyes-wide-open challenge 👀
I recently did a rewatch like this where I challenged myself to not look away at the parts I likely had on previous viewings. I was genuinely surprised by how little of the actual gore was shown in this one.
Yes, because the original Saw as never meant to be torture porn. It was, honestly, almost an indie film. It was after it became a franchise that it became mainly about the gore.
Yea the later movies definitely veered further and further into the torture porn genre. They started to show much more of the gore on screen. The first one is almost all done with cutaways, I was so surprised it never showed him cutting into his leg other than the very first appearance of blood. You never even see any kind of gash.
@23:50 Danny Glover's character and partner already had a sticky wicket going on (as the Brits would say). Without a warrant any evidence would get thrown out of court, and any arrests overturned and thrown out. And, if they killed the super villain, it they would be arrested for murder.
Fun facts, the puppet coming towards amanda was moved using fishing line, also , for the close ups of Amandas hands, those were done later to add gore, and so were James Wans hands , he painted his fingernails balck to match Shawnesses hands.
I stumbled upon you guys due to YT suggesting your video while I was watching 'The Horror Bandwagon' fellas and...I'm here for your channel. Quickest click of the sub button I did in a long time. Please keep the Saw marathon up--you know, as long as they're 'new' to you of course. Adore you both!
Seen this the day it came out in 2004 and it was a game changer. How they got Tobin bell Danny glover Cary and Shawnee smith also Monica potter on such a low budget was phenomenal.
There’s actually a shocking number of abandoned buildings all over the world; it’s surprising how many places you can go that nobody ever checks on or would think to look. (I do a lot of exploring of abandoned places in Japan and tbh, locals just get used to ignoring some buildings that have been abandoned and unclaimed for a while.)
This is def my fave saw movie to watch reactions of… and it did not disappoint 😊 I commend you for keeping ur eyes open and I would totally be fine if u didn’t! ❤
She couldn't shoot Zep, or at least not kill him. As far as she knows, and everyone else at this point, he's the only one who knows where Dr. Gordon is.
In the future films (starting in Saw II) I have to say, many - if not most - of the "victims" are the real villains. To me, Jigsaw is somewhere between vigilante and antihero... when he goes after the people that actually deserve to be there. They deserve to be tested with violence or death through less-violent-but-still-brutal means because of their vile, callous, evil, - and for some, oft psychopathic - tendencies. The "innocent" ones, on the other hand, they do indeed need to be tested due to the piece they're "missing" (as Jigsaw alludes to in Saw II) - the lack of appreciation they have for life and what life has to offer in general, or the disrespect and/or contempt they show towards their own great/good life in particular - however, not tested to the point where their life or the lives of innocent people are on the line.
@@sandpiperrhe already went through a test, so to speak: when he tried to kill himself by plunging off of a cliff in his car yet survived, and then removed the rod that penatrated his stomach. He survived.
6:00 Fun fact, rigor mortis doesn't set in until a couple of hours after death and a couple of hours more after until it's in the limbs. So assuming that guy was killed recently, it's not suspicious. That doctor probably would've known that too.
Interesting fact the creators of this franchise james Wan and leigh wannel wrote the script to this movie together while they were both attending film school.
Lol I still can't bring myself to watching anything in full in the Saw franchise b/c I'm not great with constant gore, so it was fun to watch this with you two w/o having to watching the gore-y bits. Also, seeing as though ya'll mentioned Malignant... I'd love to see you two react to that film on day!
hilarious that you guys uploaded this the day after 9/11...fun fact Adam and Lawrence were in their trap on 9/10/2001 (you can see the date on the cell phone when Lawrence pulls it out of the box)
The creators of this movie, James Wan and Leigh Wannell, must have gotten at least a smidgen of inspiration for "Saw" from the 1970s thriller "The Abominable Doctor Phibes", starring Vincent Price and Joseph Cotten. There is at least one element that was borrowed. It's a cool cult flick, really unusual and a bit campy. Also, as for the twist ending: how does a man lie nearly motionless on the floor for seven hours without having to urinate? It's a question that's bothered me since I saw this movie in theaters back in late October of 2004. (It was a really fun night at the movies.) There are some horror endings that linger with you, like "The Mist" or "Sleepaway Camp". "Saw" has one of those endings.
I don’t know if y’all have already done this but if you haven’t would y’all consider watching Good Omens? It has such a cult following and it’s really really great. I hope y’all will consider watching it.
There was a way for Adam to get out Jigsaw must have left something for him to use. The key in the bathtub made no sense if it was there they would've gotten out of there easily. The floor near Adam is covered in a white powder it's really doubtful that it is dirt most likely there was something hidden beneath it. From what we learned later on jigsaws always gives his victims a choice in this game Adam had no choice that's so very doubtful
8:49 wouldn't it actually be easier to cut through the rusty pipe and not the much newer chain? Maybe I'm wrong but that seems like the real way to go.

I'm the same way with dramatic action films, or really any film (even some horror films) with more down-to-earth violence where there's not a lot of suspension of disbelief - i.e., The Departed, The Strangers, The Purge. I can't handle real violence, or movies that emulate or simulate that kind of real-world violence. Seeing people getting hurt by violence in real life is extremely difficult and painful for me to watch/witness - other than watching bigots/right-wing hate-mongers, especially Nazis and their ilk, get knocked out by a fist or a back kick or a baseball bat.
I disagree almost 100%. As someone who hates blood and gore myself, I watch the Saw series almost every year because of the storyline and plot and characters. It’s almost like a soap-opera drama and each film is really different and brings that in. I consider Saw more detective/thriller/drama if anything
@@fd3 well you’d be in the extreme minority I can tell you that. The attraction for these movies is the deaths. One imagines you don’t require much of your entertainment if you find the characters and plot of the Saw movies enthralling.
