Unsubscribe Series: There are things in this universe within history, culture, and evolution that deserve a second look, third look, or let’s be honest... countless more. You may find that the things that we claim to be certain about are actually not certain at all. Let’s zoom out a little, shall we? What’s the bigger picture? What are we missing? What are we repeating? What will remain intact and what will change if we simply just choose to UNSUBSCRIBE from what we’ve been told to accept? The answer to that is up to you, really.
This series will ask you and me to take a deeper look into why we think what we think. Are we willing to let our minds even go there in the first place? Embracing change or sometimes even reality is reserved for the bold of heart and for those seeking authenticity. Who’s willing to step out of line from what society has told you to accept? Who wants to stop following the crowd... and start looking at what is actually happening around us? Who out there is willing to UNSUBSCRIBE?
Why are we OBSESSED with True Crime?

JoshuaDTV is a place where you can be yourself and be accepted for it. I believe in love and a lot of my content reflects that. Life isn't always fair or kind...but if we continue to strive for the good...if we continue to get back up after being knocked down... what can stop us from being the best version of ourselves? Don't just survive...THRIVE. Be Nice to People.

This is a moment when I asked myself "can my devices read my mind?" I've been concerned about my viewing of so many true crime videos. I've also questioned whether that has caused disturbed sleep, which I've experienced lately. I have the ability to stop watching the Gabby Petito "creators" who monatised her death and encouraged strangers to move, as a mob, to Brian Laundry's family home, day after day, to convict them without trial. Having watched this excellent video, I'm going to unsubscribe to so many channels, who have a negative influence on my life. I'm lucky, in that I live in a country where the lockdowns were taken seriously and the anti-vaccers were a tiny minority. It also gave me the opportunity to work remotely, which I thoroughly enjoyed and increased my productivity. However, the nights, when I had little to do other than FaceTime with my beloved daughter (we live in different European countries) and my friends, had me growing tired of Netflix because of my sudden interest in true crime. Your video is Utube gold. Thankyou.
This comment absolutely gives me the reason and passion to continue this direction. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm taking topics that resonate with me, then I research the hell out it... while making a script for it. Takes time and a lot of focus, so when I receive something so intuitive and spot on about why this is important UA-cam content, it makes an impact, regardless of views. Thank you Elizabeth. Sending my love to you and your family. Hopefully you'll keep watching!
@@JoshuaDTV Thankyou. You are an amazing person. It is staggering to relate to others. The reality that is ours is beyond understanding. Now I have a problem. How do I explain Mormon reality to others? I'm not a Mormon. I'm sorry that I can't explain that to others.
I adore the new direction you're taking Josh, and I'm happy you are posting again. It's good to have you back ♥
it'll take some time for it to catch on, but I'm absolutely loving it so far. Gotta make what you love first, then hopefully new viewership will follow :)
The editing on thisss!!! Sooooo happy to have you back Josh!
So amazing isn’t it
I am loving the new direction your content is taking. Mature, thoughtful, thought provoking, it's brilliant. Thank you for coming back. I have missed you. ❤
dang that was quite kind of you to say. THANK YOU
@@JoshuaDTV OMG OMG OMG..... you repliedto my comment. I have a huge smile on my face now that's going to be Impossible to shift. ❤
Ive really missed you. I'm so happy to see you back. Id love a life update on you and pamela!
working on it!
Nice to see you back, and as much as I would love an update on your life; I realize that you don’t owe us that. Just glad you found something that makes you happy!
I appreciate that. I will be updating viewers on life pretty soon, while remaining respectful and guarded.
Love this, so glad you're back, was genuinely worried about you!!
I'm sorry for worrying you and everyone else. Just needed to have a season of silence while I got my mental and physical health back in check.
Great to see you back, Josh. I was pleased you took a break too...it clearly did you good because this kind of high quality content is awesome.
Really enjoyed this, Josh! Glad to see you back!
I'm really loving these new videos. They're not only very interesting, but your voice is very ASMR. Seeing as you are my long-time internet husband, I can listen to these at night with my ear buds and drift off to your voice, much like I imagine Pamela does . . . . . . .
Leave the door cracked so I can tell you a story before you sleep. True Crime or Fairytale?
So happy to have you back Josh! I love true crime and I love your new way of your videos! Keep up the great job💜
josh is back! we are so excited to see new side of your channel. your narration is perfect. we missed you💕
I’m loving the new content and structure. I really missed your videos :)
This explains why I don’t like “unsolved mysteries” …I need the closure
This was actually super insightful! I think you covered both sides really well. As someone who consumes a lot of true crime podcasts, sometimes its hard to find a podcast that is both interesting and respectful. I tend to steer clear of comedy ones for that reason.
In regards to morbid, its actually a pretty unfortunate coincidence that you recommend them directly after the segment about how podcasts can affect the families.
A year or so ago, they did a podcast on the craigslist killer. They made a few jokes while discussing one of the murders, and the victim's son heard it.
He ended up commenting on their Instagram expressing how it was pretty hurtful to him, that they could make jokes while discussing his father's murder. He ended up being harassed by their fanbase, and they only acknowledged him when his post started gaining traction outside of their fan bubble. according to the son, it was never resolved.
If you're looking for something similar, Sinisterhood and Redhanded should fill that void!
I can vouch for this. The hosts of Morbid are not great people and have continually disrespected victims and their families. I would also like to suggest Voices for Justice and Disappeared, two podcasts by Sarah Turney, whose teenage sister Alissa Turney went missing and was never found. She fought hard for her sister and now her father is finally on trial for the murder.
Oh my god I should have done more research on them before I included it. We listen every now and then when we're driving, but I had no idea that happened. That really makes me sad for the son and how he was treated. Thank you for educating me on this and for the suggestions. Typically, I listen to Mile Higher and Lights Out. Kendall and Josh are so kind hearted and do a lot for the families involved when they can.
@JoshuaDTV hey it's no problem! They did a good job of keeping it on the down low as it is! Otherwise you did a great job and I appreciated the inclusion of why women listen!
@@JoshuaDTV MHP is great, they do a lot for victim advocacy.
Never paid much attention to the fact that you have a great narrating voice!!!!!!!!
I love this idea, excited for more Josh!!
slowly but surely! go more coming
Loving the new material. 👍🏻

Loving these so much
Welcome back Josh. :)

Loved the Jason reference lol. Really happy you’re back ❤️
couldn't resist
I could totally see you becoming a true crime channel you totally have the voice
Love what you're doing. Can't wait to see more.
Every Saturday 😁😁
I love this new style of videos and can’t wait to see more, Josh! Your voice is so soothing! Also I’m the same and love that morbid podcast. 😂
I missed you so muchhhhh!
I understand the draw, but as a woman, when I got rid of cable & TV. (12 yrs ago) There was an instant decrease in anxiety. The fact that those shows were real, made this terror a possibility. It really felt to me that media & advertising was a negative impact on women overall. My whole life was immediately impacted by getting rid of commercial tv. I watch everything online and have so much more variety and control of what I watch. I find people like you and many others that made themselves so vulnerable to the world, evolved as people, and watching you come out the other side to try again just shows a much truer dipiction of how life really works. Yup...I know some were scripted, and for a long time creators only showed sunshine & rainbows, but if it seemed fake either way I unsubscribed. I go by my gut- which for too many years I didn't listen to. Glad to see your new content. Hope you and the family are good!
this comment really hit home. I'm here though, ready for another day. thank you for expressing all that you did.
Love to see you!
Love this! Info, easily digestible and entertaining, while feeling like I’m hanging out with a friend!
Love it. Glad to have you back.
me too Mae
I am truly enjoying your new content. (but I am secretly hoping you will still sing a song on an upload every once in a while)...love your voice.
I appreciate you so much!
I used to watch Unsolved Mysteries every night to fall asleep to. Robert Stacks voice is so calming. I preferred the paranormal and extraterrestrial episodes, but i loved the "update" episodes where they found murderers, some after 20 years of hiding. I can also fall asleep to Foresic Files, i like how DNA helps find the killers. I hate it when a murder is not solved. I need justice. lol Loved the video. Looking forward to more!
I was just saying the same thing the other day! I prefer listening or watching knowing there's some form of resolution. Now imagine what those families must feel like :(
Two things shocked me about this week's topic... First, Murderinos (I just learn this word btw) love true crime but we can't stand horror movies and second, I'm not alone!! hahaha. I do think women tend to consume true crime content more because we want to avoid being victims. I know I've gotten tons of good tips on how to protect myself from crazy guys out there from true crime documentaries. Also, as a former victim of domestic violence I definitely feel great satisfaction when watching a case in which the culprit gets its punish, like it makes me feel better about not having that closure in my case. I'm loving the new content @JoshuaDTV
JOOOOSSSHHH!!!!!! ❤❤❤ Sorry that was agressive. 😂 I have missed you every single day!! I hope you didn't forget about me. I haven't left at all. 😊
keep the positive aggression. this channel welcomes it ;)
Loved this!!!
This is good, keep it going!
I genuinely worry if anything happened to my husband, because my search history is damning. My Dad died when I was 10 and both me and my middle sister both developed a pretty morbid curiosity. She went into criminal justice, and I just spend a lot of my free time watching and researching stories. I found a whole community on UA-cam through “Ask a Mortician” aka Caitlin Doughty as well.
Omg love it!!
👏👏
Great to see you back Josh. I love the new path you’re taking. I’m a true crime junkie and I sometimes think that this does add to my anxiety. Yeah, it may be time to cut back. Hope the family is doing well.
hey Josh i loves your video you inspired me to be a UA-cam to😎😎😎😎
i was hella late with this but i watched your video of storybooth, did you Snapped your arm again😂?
I'm not really into true crime. The story really has to capture my attention for it. Like that show, Homicide Hunter with Lt. Joe Kenda. I've seen every episode. Mostly because I like the way he tells his experiences.
If there was a genre within true crime I'd find interesting, it would be missing people who seemed to have vanished out of thin air. To me, that is more interesting.
No, instead, if I were to say there was a genre I really liked, it would be paranormal true stories... you know, ghosts, demons, haunted objects, glitch in the matrix stuff, etc.
Yes, I am aware some people don't believe any of that is true. That's fine if you don't. But to some degree, I do. And I find it to be highly interesting.
I love podcasts where the hosts are fun and it's not take too seriously when listening to a murder, crime etc podcasts bc it's already a shitty topic so some podcast I like are "All Aussie Mystery Hour", "True Crime & Cocktails" & "Just The Gist."
The serious ones I listen to "I catch killers with Gary jubelin" which is an ex Aussie detective who tells stories.
Also "Where's William Tyrrell?" Is sadly a podcast about a little boy who went missing in Australia number of years ago & hasn't been found so it's about what evidence they have and what's been happening with the case. The podcast I mentioned before about Gary Jubelin was the head detective but he got fired bc he recorded someone he thinks took the boy so he got fired and isn't apart of the force anymore.
I do prefer docos more bc I don't like to watch/listen to long stories on my headphones bc I prefer to watch videos but I'd rather watch tv.
taking note of ALL of these awesome suggestions Jackie! thank you!
Woop!
Couch Cushion Detective?!?!?! Excuuuuuuuse me :D :D :D I don`t know if I`m offended or what :D Greetings from Germany

Loving this new series Josh. Keep it up!
I love anything that has to so with true crime!
it's addicting right?
@@JoshuaDTV extremely addicting
Great to hear your voice, I like it. Love this addition I too am 🤩💫❤️❤️🙏🏻
Please become a true crime channel. You'd be awesome at it!
possibly :) we'll see where it goes!
Are you planning to Livestream every Saturday? I'm gonna have to quit my job so I can watch lol
EVERY SATURDAY. Maybe the next one will be on UA-cam?
@@JoshuaDTV Yes please do!!
Have there been any studies about why women in particular love true crime? My theory is that we’re conditioned from a young age to be cautious and to avoid danger/predation, and true crime gives us that sort of fantastical glimpse into the danger we’ve been trying to evade our whole lives.
But loving true crime does seem to be a trend among cis white women specifically. I wonder why we’re drawn to it….it could be that the stakes don’t feel as high/real to us since the majority of unsolved missing person’s cases involve women of color/members of the queer community?
the studies I saw absolutely said that women listen more than men... and their theory is that women face domestic violence at a much higher rate than men do, so listening to this type of content psychologically gives them a source of peace and assurance that maybe they'll be more prepared if something does happen. Gives them real life scenarios that maybe they can learn from.
I subbed to Discovery+ SOLEY for the true crime library! The old City Confidential narrated by Paul Winfield are my all time favorite!
well I guess I know what I'm watching next Nicholas
@@JoshuaDTV you know, I think City Confidential actually did one on Macon, Georgia, too.

Nice approach! I also love true crime 😅
