Such a travesty the old north loop being used as car park...
The old track was so great with the banking, noth loop and veenslang. GP riders really loved it.
All GP riders agreed that Assen was fucked up and no longer a unique motorbike track.
And now they want to have the F1 over there .................
I agree, the old track was great, even by car. It's only 45 minutes from my home and in the good old days I drove there many times, untill they closed it for traffic in 1992. Now only the second half of the South Loop is original and has the glory of the old track.

Shame. The 1980s TT circuit were some of my best childhood memories. Always my favourite bike gp of the year, watching Lawson, schwantz and Rainey through the fast kinks and banking. The cathedral is now more like a little chapel
I visited it for the first time in 1989 to drive with my car. Those days it was part of the public road. The central part was the road from Assen to Laaghalerveen, while both loops were open without function. Well, I had a function for it ;) But not only me, it was frequentely used for illegal racing. After some grave accidents it was turned into a permanent track in 1992. Understandable, but it was a great time those late 80's and early 90's :)

The titles of the used songs are: Court and page, Days are long and always hopeful. You can find the music in the free UA-cam library in the Creator Studio.
I also feel like the old version track is almost as long as the old Hockenheim and it must have gone through the same amount of pain that the old Hockenheim went through accept I don't think that the old version of this track got turned into grass like Hockenheim did.
Well, a part of the old North Loop has already been demolished. They want to built a hotel and much more there. But most of the ground is still empty.
Such a shame this section had to be taken out. The shorter layout isn't bad, but it must be annoying for racers to have to turn right at Turn 1.
The South Loop is still cool, but they screwed the North Loop and the fast Veenslang section.

After the first cut off in 1984 drivers complained that they found the first part of the new section a little boring. But I can tell from my own experience that the fast right-hander before the Strubben hairpin was great.
whenever see old tracks, reminds me of when I was driving go karts and there was actually dirt track ment for motorcycles built for racing right next to the go kart track that is still around today though slightly modified turn 1 (they added some curvestones there to give possibility for run off in case you went wide, during my active times, it was often you went wide, would be stuck on gravel/sand trap). The dirt track was exciting looking but when I went there back recently after years later it been closed, there was barely remains as they have built gravel parking lot, small security building and then big road that takes somewhere where wood trucks go sometimes.
with small drive on the old road remain, I found actually small pits area where more than likely people brought the motorcycles to, it had even remains of the paint but it was sad view to see it was mostly covered by nature, being claimed back. The track was closed due to its safety + no offical races got held. Go kart track doesn't hold national races either anymore because of the surface is in bad shape, but still people drive around it with go karts. I go back there every now and then to reflect my memories but also try find some hints whenever any repairs have been done.

sorry for writing it bit confusing, its more like abandond dirt track ment for motorcycles that has go kart track right next to it (its still there today). Its located right where I live in Finland, around 10km from the center of the town. If want I can try gather some pictures later for you to send. its somewhat sad view for me as a former racer. the go kart track itself like I said is in bad shape too so I would not be surprised if they will demolish it eventually unless they find funding to fix it a lot. like new surface work would be needed, improvements on tyre barriers and run off area to turn 1 made better.
I remember back in 2003-2005 things looked much different, now bit wish I would have had taken pictures back then. PS: what are the songs you used in this video?

Yes it was a cool track. In the late 80's and early 90's I drove there many times... illegal :o A part of the track was public road but the whole track was accessible. After some grave accidents happen they closed the track for traffic in 1992.
Circuits of the past so i’ve been told by my parents. I lived near the track (10min. bicycle ride) for nearly 18 years (since 2000), but my mom and grandma grew up there :) Personally, I only noticed the latest few (although large) changes. The current entry road (from all sides) of the circuit “De Haar” is pretty suitable to drive fast, though.
