Sketchers is making some pretty nice dress casual shoes I might start using for weddings. Also formatted a card with 75GB of 4K footage 3/4 through the day...still managed to recover most of the important stuff and deliver a great highlight film + fomo edit.
hi Scott love you Chanel... could you share how to much A7c footage with S-Cinetone??? maybe share the PP or do you fix in post.... LUT???? would make a great video.... thanks a lot....
Hi Scott, Great info from a pro wedding team 👍 So what codecs (H264/H265) do you shoot in to optimise file size and how many Gb’s would one wedding ‘uncut’ be? Wondering what would be the best codec for a wedding on the A7sIII. All intra is overkill I think but regarding H264 and H265 and frame rates.. do you shoot the complete day in 60fps or just 24 and some moments in 60 or 120? Tx again for all the practical info 👌
Hey there! Dunk Butler here, thanks so much for answering my question! I wanted to elaborate more but the IG character limit was killing me! Haha So yeah, wedding/event videographer is sort of the dream…I’ve done a handful the past few years, but only for friends or relatives. Nothing I’m particular proud of…but I’m just trying to learn! I asked about shadowing a professional because I know a few who do this for a living. I’ve offered to help for free, just trying to gain knowledge in return…but my offers only ever get turned down. I’m not sure if the deal is not trying to support competition or what. You’re right, UA-cam is such a helpful resource, but I feel like it only gets you so far. Just trying to get my foot in the door…but that has proven to be more difficult than I originally thought it would be hahaha!
It all depends how you’re asking as well. You could be asking selfishly without knowing it. For example, a lot of people say to me “I’d love to tag alone to a filming with you so I could learn more and pick your brain”. That says “it’s all about the value you’re going to bring me”. If you approach it the other way and realize how you can help them with the day while also learning, that’s value for them. For example: “my name is Dunk and I’ve recently been really interested in learning more about weddings. I’m always amazed at all the hard work that goes into a day and I’d love to be able to help assist you in any way on a wedding day. I can help carry gear, set things up, or whatever else you may need.”
@@scottmckenna There's probably truth in that. I can definitely rethink my approach. I'd be lying if I hadn't gone into this thinking "oh, people would die for some free help" hahaha so I was surprised when I would get turned down, or just get no response whatsoever. Thank's so much for helping to open my eyes a bit.
It all depends on who you ask as well. Weddings can also be tricky and risky to even have random people come and assist too because it’s a very professional environment and any extra bodies cost money for the couple as well so sometimes it’s different.
I noticed you still use the Rode Video Mic Pro. Why is that, since you gave the Videomic NTG a nice review. I will buy one of those two soon, which one would you recommend? Wedding videos.
I use the NTG for my own personal camera and vlogs. I have a bunch of videomic pro + that work perfectly still for that type of work. No need to change them all out.
Amen to no limit on hours. I figure my day is already committed to them. Does it matter if I show up at 11? 12? Not really. But it makes a big difference getting a full day of coverage
Hey Scott. Do you have a questionnaire that you send out to the bride and groom to get started? If so, what kind of questions do you ask related to the video production part?
4k is not a description of image quality, my phone shoots 4k too. Most cinemas still project in 2k. It's about dynamic range, expecially in highlights, it's about color science, and for weddings and events the ergonomics are as important as the actual image. And the most important thing is your skill to utilize all of that.
I will never understand why people rely so heavily on auto focus. Everytime I see wedding films I can always tell when its shot on sony because every shot is wide, safe and theres zero depth of field control.
@@kfsdamian3929 It has nothing to do with Sony. Canon has great autofocus, and so does Fuji. It’s not like Sony specifically makes people “lazy”. I shoot Sony and rely on AF 95% of the day, and am usually around a 50-70mm base. I’ll 100% capture more useable moments than anyone who manually focuses. No reason not to let technological advancements up your game. AF has nothing to do with the focal length, it works the same regardless. It’s totally fine to not be a fan of a wider shooting style, but it makes no sense comparing that style of shooting to using auto focus vs. not.
haha. The funniest part is that I never knew the mosquito was there. I don't get reactions to them so I never get bites or anything. Until someone pointed it out, I had no clue lol

I don’t use an A7c. I have just A7siii’s and FX3’s.

XAVCS 4K is what I shoot on the fx3. no need for anything else in my opinion.

Usually codecs. Not all 4K is equal.

huh? that literally has nothing to do with Sony or auto focus, that’s just how someone shoots..
