I FORGOT TO PUT THIS IN THE VIDEO, oops! At 5:28, you need to sew the end of the strap back down onto the strap. This will stop the whole thing from coming loose!! So it's kinda important.
So, loop the strap over the slider, and sew it back down onto the strap (on the strap that's at the back), using a straight stitch.

Do you sell your clothes by any chance? I'm too lazy to make them myself and your creations look wonderful so I would really want to buy them >
How tall are you
I would've attached the slider and buckle before I stitched the strap onto the skirt. Just to keep everything sitting flat
So it would've been that I loop the strap onto the middle of the slider and stitch, then thread through the slider and buckle, then attach the free end to the waistband :)
when i saw that you didn't say that in the video i was like" that's gonna fall off immediately, she should've sewn it down" then, when i watched this video again so that i could actually follow the steps to make my own pinafore, I looked for the link to the circle skirt in the description and i saw that you pointed out that you forgot to sew it down. I think that's amazing. some youtubers wouldn't even tell you and instead they would just let you screw up. It's nice to know you care about your subscribers. :3
btw I love your videos and I'm planning to make the pinafore and the bralette! Ily
If you didn't want to totally commit to having a the pinafore, rather than stitching it on the the waistband, you could add buttons inside the waistband and button holes to the pinafore sections. That way the pinafore is removable and you can also wear the skirt plain.
+Sarah Johannsen great idea! Thanks!
You're a genious! Thanks so much!
thanks so much !!
@@arianajones9271 She is, but from your spelling of genius i'm not sure if _you_ are.
Thanks!
just wanted to express my immense appreciation for you acknowledging size variations both short and tall. I know it's such a little thing but your straight up recognising that women over 6ft exist makes me feel very included and considered, more so than I feel on most high streets, thanks for that. your videos are so clearly explained you make these projects look so easy, definitely need to dust off my sewing machine.
+Monster Any body should be able to wear any thing they want to, that's why sewing and making stuff for yourself is such a good skill to have :) Thank you so much for your lovely comment! xxx

Does anyone else like watching diy videos whilst lying in bed knowing that you'd be too lazy to ever actually do them.
yeah cause it gives me hope for when i'm actually able to do these things ll
my life
Literally doing that right now
Ugh even if I wanted to and had the energy, I don't have a functional sewing machine yikes
You should really pick up sewing, it's fun and makes you feel really unique when you make something you're proud of!
I finally made this! I hand sewed everything, because I lack a sewing machine. (Three days, whoo!) It's so cute! 💕💕
Hand sew?!?! That dedication tho
+Izza Armand Haha, thanks! It's this really pretty blue fabric with butterflies on it! I'm so proud of it. x3
Congrats yo !!! I wish I could see it because I also lack a sewing machine
SakuyaLuigi how did it work out in the washing machine? Mine always fall apart in there if I hand sew :3
jesus I would not have the patience to hand-sew an entire pinafore. major props
I LOVE that you are taking the extra time to do all the top stitching!! My first dress tutorial was yours and it's been a whole year later.. the dresses I am making now look freakin' AMAZING. I get compliments literally every single time I wear one.
+Carmindy Stevens Oh my goodness, that's so so so cool! :D I'm so excited I helped you out at first! I would love to see pictures!
And yes, haha, I have slowly learned that taking a bit of extra time to do finishings is worth the effort at the end :) (whereas I used to just rush through projects and want them done as soon as possible haha)
Is it bad that I'm obsessed with these but I don't do any of them.. 😅
nope do the same!!😂😂😂
I want to thank you a lot for this video. Years ago when I was around 13 years old I followed this tutorial with my mother and made a navy blue pinafore thanks to you! We were financially tight back then and having this dress made my confidence sky rocket as a teen. It also was a nice way to bond as a mom and daughter ❤ I wish you all happiness in your life
Thank you so much for such an easy to follow tutorial. My husband watched me struggling with turning out the strap and came up with the idea of sewing a thin piece of fabric to the end on the inside of the tube, and then simply (and so, so quickly) pulling on it to turn the strap the right way out, then cutting off the fabric - saves 1/2 an hour struggling!
ohmygosh i wore one of these to school once and people kept asking if I had foods class next and why i was wearing an apron the entire day omg -.-
Was it white?
JAMEE ROZ people do that to me too XD
Jamee Burgos that makes me so angry asdfghjkl like its cute stop
Lol
Jamee Burgos don’t worry it’s cute I made one like this and wore it to school and it was really cute so I think anyone could look cute no matter what people say
I must say these videos were very easy to follow. Mostly thanks to all the measurements provided. It took me all afternoon because I hadn’t done any sewing in ages, but my daughter seemed excited to try on her new outfit. Ours was made out of black denim with lace at the hem. Will have to work on my stitching! Not super straight, but the objective of making my daughter happy was achieved! Thank you for this video, I hope to see more!
If you attach a safety pin to one end of the tube, it's a LOT easier to turn inside out! :)
I so don't have a sewing brain but I still love watching you make everything! You're super smart and soo creative.
YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!!! This was the first video that actually showed how to put on the buckles!!!!!!!
I tried this today and it worked perfectly! Thanks a lot for the cool ideas!
I actually attached the straps with simple matching buttons, but I love it this way. Can't wait to wear it in public ^^
I'm actually mad I don't have a pinafore like that
Same
I'm not good in making DIY stuffs like these but I really just love to watch your videos! Its super creative and I love it.
I’ve made this twice now! One for me using a sewing machine and one for a friend by hand! This is a really good tutorial and I love the end results
World book day has given me a great excuse to make my first garment. Tote bags, book marks, hats and headbands are done. Half way through my first quilted quilt. This video was perfect! ❤️ Half way to done and it's lookong fab! Thanks
never sewn anything good before, but im going to joans fabrics tomorrow to get fabric for this. i need to make this. i absolutely need this in my life
I'm watching basically all of your old videos for around the 10th time and I just want to say: That looks soooo beautiful and cheap!
THIS IS MY FAVORITE MAKE THRIFT BUY EPISODE
Hi Annika, would be great if you said in your videos how many yards/meters it's required in the diy's.
Agreed!! I know a lot of your fabric comes from materials you already have but an estimate would be super helpful!!! (Everything you do already is also super helpful and appreciated, btw!)
I'm gunna make this for back to school and I'm pretty sure two yards is enough. Maybe two and a half if you make a lot of mistakes.
I think two yards is a solid amount if you are of a similar size to her. If you're a little larger, try 2.5.
I have my pieces cut for it with a rectangle skirt, which is pretty gathered. It took me 2m of a 1m wide bolt. I have fabric left over. In Canadian stores i wear a size 14-16. Hope this helps.
I made this dress 5 years ago after watching your video with my mom and it turned out so well! It just took us one evening to make it and everyone loved the dress! I wanted to thank you :))
Yayaay!! So happy to hear this! 🙂
I made this for myself yesterday, and I absolutely love it! Your video not only taught me how to make it, but it also gave me the confidence to try and make it. :)
this is a *really* good tutorial !! sometimes tutorials are a little hard to follow but you combined visual teaching with verbal teaching very, very well
thank you for sharing and creating !!
I love your sewing tutorials where you sew things, or recreate patterns based off existing clothing - i find them so inspiring! :) thanks for sharing! :)
Thank you for being the first helpful video on how to do over all straps everyone else UA-cam diys never really show how to make the straps
I loooove this fabric and your videos are so easy to watch and understand!
I just made one myself! Between rehearsals school and homework it took me 2 days! I absolutely can't wait to wear mine tomorrow as I just finished it.
i'm trying this at the moment, im putting this tutorial together with the square circle skirt one and its going really well so far 😊
This is years old but what a wonderful tutorial. It has truly blessed me. Thank you Annika!
I found your channel today an binge watched you whole make, thrift, buy series. It's so cool to see someone else who thrift shops so to not contribute to mass production and sweat shops! AND your Australian too!
+Amber Moyle you're*

This is the best pinafore tutorial I've seen so far! Thanks a lot Annika! Already bought a piece of super trendy Marsala fabric to sew my own pinafore :D Love your channel!
I love love love this in the fabric you chose to use!
It's 2:30am in the morning here and I just stumbled upon your channel. I am addicted!! Love your style and all the helpful tips! I want to get into making my own clothing and you just gave me so much more confidence! Thank you! keep up the good work! You make it look so easy!
Exciting!!! I've been wanting to make a pinafore for ages, and I actually came across some adorable gingham fabric today which will be perfect for this! Awesome tutorial :3
This is my favorite thing you've done!!! Sooo cute love that fabric
I love your tutorials!
I need reminders of what I've made decades ago as well as using new better fibers than what was available back in my day. Menopause is the first step in forgetfulness then onto senior moments/brain farts ....
I subscribed after one video! This is the first one I have seen and I think it was so great! You explained everything so well I think I could actually do it :) I might try this out, but I want to try to find thrifts fabric first! I can’t wait :)
Oooooo!!! I've actually been playing around with the idea of making a pinafore dress for a little while now after I recently made my first actual piece of usable clothing and your tutorial seems super helpful if I decide to!
Came here from your wearing a week's worth of "you made" outfits to say that you inspired me to make a floral pinafore out of some fabric I have been struggling to use up for about 6 months. :-)
this is a really cute tutorial, and reminded me that i want to make a pair of overalls some time! and now i know how i could make them, too. thanks!
Amazing I have so many scraps of materials and bed quilts I will definitely make several of these.
Well done
One of my favorite pieces you have made! Adorable! Love your content!
PLEASE tell me why I'm not sewing.. You make me REALLY want to sew. I have a sewing machine and a serger.. I need to get my life together >
Noodle same here, girl.
This is absolutely adorable! I think it's my favorite thing that you made!
I love this so much! The fabric is divine 😍😍😍
If you don't have a bodkin for turning the straps, you can use a slender ruler or a knitting needle. I loved your tutorial. Such a lovely pinafore!
Oh my goodness, this video totally inspired me just like - with understanding measurements and the process of how it was made - ! I have some old jeans that I was going to get rid of but now I want to remake them into an overall-skirt for one my puppets.
Fantastic! Love your clear but simple instructions 😁👍✨
"and then I walked them together with a hammer." ha ha ha ha I laughed, out loud so funny.
A tip for the straps: When you sew them you can put a rope or thread inside and sew it in one of the corners, when sewing the thread will remain inside the tube but it will be loose, and when you finish you just have to hold the fabric tube and pull the inside thread (note: the thread or string inside has to be a little longer) I hope it will help! I really love your videos ♥️✌🏼
Think this has got to be my favour Make Thrift Buy so far! Been thinking of making a pinafore dress for a while and now you have inspired me to make it ASAP!
+Sew Darn Neat :D Thank you! (Also, I left a slightly important instruction out, so check out the annotation at 5:28 when you do make it, or check the description box, for the update!)
+Annika Victoria Thanks just checked it... would have probably figured it out after making xD
Quick tip, if you are planning to ALWAYS wear your pinafore with a cross at the back then sew the straps on at a 45 degree angle. It will stop the "gaping" at the back. But atlas your way you can wear it both ways :)
Ooooh yeah, of course. They don't gape too much luckily, and I wanted the option, but that's definitely a good idea for my future pinafores :)
Hello!
This by far the best thing you have made!! it looks so professional!! i hope someday my sewing skills will be as up to par as yours are! ^ ^
Absolutely love your channel!! So much fun stuff to make! Thank you
This is awesome! I recently got the materials to make a black (fake) leather pinafore/dungaree dress and couldn't believe it when I saw this pop up in my subscription box! It'll be much easier to make with your awesome tutorial! Thank you :D
+IHeartBingo :D Thank you! (Also, I left a slightly important instruction out, so check out the annotation at 5:28 when you do make it, or check the description box, for the update!)
super super cute, thank you for making this tutorial (love the fabric you used too)
I just tore my pinafore, exact same fabric! Now I'll just make a new one. Thank you.
I made this for my sister as a present had to make a few adjustments for the body of it but I came out great THANK YOU
Thank you for another great diy. I made one in a snap because of your easy to follow instructions. Though I couldn't get ahold of anything to make the adjustable straps... oh well buttons work too :)
I love the way you explain stuff...thanks!
I would absolutely love to see an instructional video just going over-lockers a little bit ! I just got one but there's not many GOOD quality videos on UA-cam to help haha. Specifically I'm having a hard time finding tutorials and how-to videos on how to make a sort of "stretch stitch" with an over-locker (trying to work with very stretchy fabric but having a hard time). Hope to see this in the future. Keep making great videos babes love ya!!!
I never found a oinafore dress that I liked and that fitted so I think I will try this out! Thanks for this video ♥
My thoughts exactly! It really does look professional, well done!
Okay, this is just amazing. You have talent.
I know that this video is really old, but this is GORGEOUS 😍😍 I’m so in love with your videos and your personality!!
This is such a cute dress idea and I can't wait to make it. Just gotta go get some of those clips~!
This is one of the projects I liked most of yours!! :) I love the pattern, the shape and even more how it looks on you n.n
Wow! Such pretty material and fabulous results. And I also like the way you styled it with the striped top. Love This tutorial! Thank You sharing
+Nita Brantley Thank you lovely!
This is the cutest thing ever! I would really love to start making my own clothes, and I'm totally trying this project, especially in that cute floral pattern!
+Carly M :D Thank you! (Also, I left a slightly important instruction out, so check out the annotation at 5:28 when you do make it, or check the description box, for the update!)
I really love your videos and your blog !
Could you make video like a mini guide for TOTAL EXTREME FUCKING BEGINNERS / beginners / medium / expert and stuff like that ? That would be amazing !
i would like her to make TOTAL EXTREME FUCKING BEGGINERS. 😂😂😂
I mean, I've never sewn (hope it's how you say it) anything in my entire life, and I made a half circle skirt today (with a little help from my mom), and I think it looks really pretty :)
Love this! Planning to make this when I find all of the buckles and thingies
Good job Annika that looks fantastic.
I use to watch your videos just because I loved your personality and knowledge of clothing. Now I watch your videos to actually learn how to make the clothing. (I didnt have a sewing machine before)
This is one of my favourites so far
These videos are so cool, thanks heaps for making them!
Was just in Osaka and picked up some fabric with bread loafs all over it with this tutorial in mind. I'll tag you once I make it.
I love your organizer/background thing!
So professional looking and a great idea for me as a beginner, will give this a go once I find the sliders :P
Oh my goodness! I found your circle skirt/other pinafore tutorial just a few hours ago, and might use this tutorial to help me make a cosplay! Thank you! ;D
+AugustOfMidnight :D Thank you! (Also, I left a slightly important instruction out, so check out the annotation at 5:28 when you do make it, or check the description box, for the update!)
This is so cute!! You're so talented
i found your channel today and after binge watching a ton of your videos, i decided to order a sewing machine. so i guess i'll be watching a ton more of your videos once that comes in :))
YAAAY finally a pinafore tutorial, I will soo be making this soon, thanks annika
+Hummie;) :D Thank you! (Also, I left a slightly important instruction out, so check out the annotation at 5:28 when you do make it, or check the description box, for the update!)

JUST MADE ONE OMG I AM IN LOVE
That's adorable!! You're fantastic!
Good job! That looks really nice
This is so cute!!!!!! I cannot wait to try and make this!!!!
This is definitely one of my favourites!
I just tried out the half circle skirt tutorial and LOVED IT but I have so much extra fabric I’m gonna turn it into this pinafore now lol
Hands down my favorite diy I'm so making one but adding pockets became I live for pockets 👌👌
I got this fabric with little frogs riding turtles for this and I am almost done with it! I love this tutorial SO MUCH
Super cute!
Thanks for this tutorial
Thanks, Annika! I have this dress that is a bit big on me and wanted to turn it to something i'd wear again! A pinafore is a great idea for that. Although I'd obviously have to make some innovations from the video there's a lot of tips that help! so thanks for uploading this video
I love this great tutorial keep up the fantastic work lots of love
Unbelievably cute!!
I actually did it! 😂😁😁 I got myself some nice fabric with flamingos on it and sew this 😍 love it. and I love your videos so much :) thanks for making all these difficult things so easy for us 😘
I have to make this. It looks so adorable.
