I noticed that you scrap the speakers with your steel. Depends on where I get my items " not outside in the rain" I tend to keep the speakers and sell them as a lot. You could probably get about 50 cents to $1 per speaker not matter the size. I did this with small PC speakers.
That DLP chip alone goes for $300 and $400 on eBay and Amazon. The dmd board it comes off of is $100 to $200 on eBay, the color wheel goes for $150, the power supply and mainboard go for sell for $100 each . The screw set sells for about $20 the heat sink over the DLP chip goes for $20 to $30. The mirror inside the light engine goes for $100, the fans sell for $20 to $40. The screen itself is work about $200 to $300. The speaker set is $20 to $40. Even the dang IR sensor is worth more than scrapping it all together. The wire set including the plug is $30 to $40.
Do not forget to keep the Fresnel lens. If it is a linear one it can be used to cook with.
If it turns out to be a Spot lens you can actually melt river rocks to create Obsidian for jewelry, etc.
Some of them have been know to vaporize a penny in 3 second. ( new zinc penny - true copper pennies takes a little longer.)
I did one a day or two ago in around 10 seconds. I live in the midwest and the winter sun is a little weaker, but still burns items including metals.
hey mike these videos are great. a tv like this is a good find. while mnot a high scrap value device there are alot of cool parts in them. one i like the most is the magnifying glasses and tops is taking out the fresnel lens. most any rear projection tvs hold these in there screens and there are fun to play with. when set up properly a fresnel lens can put a sun spot on any materiel thats over 2800 degrees F. and will set fir to or melt anything in it way. its a huge sheet of plastic that looks like a giant flat magnifying glass

I've got 2 gold DLP chips, but I'm sure they're just plated, I want to strip them, but don't have the chemicals needed for proper extraction.
Hey Mike, can you do a vid on the newer HP cartridges? trying to get gold out of the CB541A's 530A's and 125 a's. I am getting about 5 a day at work. Wondering how many I need to scrap before its time to refine..

What do you do with the mountains of plastics after scrapping?
I take to a recycling center
Djeral100 I sell the Fresnel lenses on Ebay and get well over $40 for each one. More if it's a spot lens as oppose to the linear lens. Also The polarization plastic part (the one with ripples) I use on top of my patio in my backyard to block and filter out the harmful rays. I then take the clear plastic part ( the first layer) and put that over the polarized plastic to weather guard it. I glued and screwed them down. Now it keeps harmful UV rays out and also during a rain storm (which we hardly have in California) it keeps me dry when I'm in my backyard enjoying the rain. Each projection t.v. has 3 huge magnifying glasses in them. I keep those till I had a bunch and sold for over $200 plus they paid shipping. The fresnel lens and the heavy glass magnifiers will give you your most bang for your buck. Just save the copper/low grade boards/silver/wire/aluminum heat sinks/etc /etc till you have a shit load while you rake in the big bucks on Ebay. This is what I have done in my part time with a job and I've made some great extra cash.I feel like Mike the Scrapper has left out a lot of good points in this video and a couple others. Or maybe he knows and doesn't want anyone jumping in his territory..lol. I love his videos but I had to explain this to everyone not just you.P.S. DLP chips are worth about $35-$60 a pound depending on where you go. I sell all my gold scrap on Ebay and they go nuts for it. Good luck!

Hi mike just started watching your videos, I was curious in how you know where's the gold is in certain electronics?
I have been doing this a long time. computers and high end electronics have some sought of high value metal in them.
What do you do with the countless screws that you collect from your dissasemblies?
I put them all in a can or bucket and sell them for scrap.
i've plastic boxes of wood/ metal/ self-tapping screws/ nuts-n-bolts/ fasteners/ solder joints/ pins/ connectors/ components, and have used almost all in my projects (my newest is a mechanical pinball game-about to finish it).
if you need tiny wood screws, look for VCR tapes, unscrew them, and you should have 5-6 tiny wood screws for your projects-i have 100+!!!!

I think that TV would've been better off repaired vs scrapped. I have a similar model and it works great with a 1080P picture. I did have to replace the DLP chip in it awhile back. Plus, these TVs have to have the lamp replaced ever couple of years or so ($30-$60). If that DLP chip did not have any stuck mirrors (white/black dots on the screen), you could have easily sold it for a lot more than scrap value.

Mike the Scrapper You still have the opportunity cost of spending an hour on scrapping vs an hour working elsewhere. Honestly depending on how fast you work, you may have lost money on this one.
Though I'm sure you had fun, so that more than makes up for it.

rear projection TV's are dead! its all flat screens now apart from some very rare manufacturing of CRT tubes which i still use as a daily TV watching who needs brand new flat screens! i saw a rear projection smashed a while ago on the street i should have checked it out for scrap metals it was already probably scrapped!

Anton, thank toy for watching my video's. I love to scrap computers. Nothing is trash and its all recyclable. Highest value things was a furnace. 10 min job and was paid. $110 in 10 min.

Was it really worth it to spend the time to take this apart for little over $3? I understand the educational purpose of the video, but is it practical for someone to do this? I can see it being profitable in bulk, but who has 100 projection TV's?

Hi mike , I have a question due to i have never scrapped "lead" before but if i pick up lead in the banks of say a gun range i can scrap that right? if so does it need to be cleaned in any way ?
Another thing is oh man I found this scrap glory spot man would change a scrappers life no lie I walked it (buried in the woods) it stretches easy mile . from what i seen there is so much money in scrap at this site if the yards were paying say 5.00 per 100, you would make an easy 100grand LOL. my problem is i dont have a truck. oh boy the good friends i talked to tell me goodluck in a smart ass way of getting it out . psh i even though about spending a few days a week carrying it out by hand (some of the smaller things .. such as the old 1940s type writers must weight easy 40-50pounds a piece . i have a car right now but thought about carrying 100 or so of them out get it back to my house , pay a buddy 10-20bucks to use his dump truck to take me to the yard .. money is money , hell i will even post a vid of this epic scrap site =D Any how just sharing, but the question is legit lol :) thanks!
lead does not have to be cleaned. you can scrap as is. As for the scrap in the field. make sure it not private property. If all goes well have your friend help with the pile and pay him have the money.

make sure you wear gloves, and don't breathe in the (lead) dust- v. toxic!
the collected lead (and brass casings) can be either scrapped or traded.
i'm just collecting the brass, for now.
