Romania is home to the largest remnant stands of virgin forest in Europe outside of Scandinavia. It is also home to Europe's largest and most healthy populations of bears, wolves and lynx
I m happy you get to see bears before they get killed. The gov just approved a Bill that allows 500 bears to be killed annually. I m literally crying right now😭@@JacobandJennyTravel
I don't know if you know but Romania has the highest concentration of bears anywhere. We actually have too many and tried to gift some to the French. From what I've seen of the bears here, they are pretty peaceful and won't attack humans. A lot of people have stories of randomly meeting a bear on hikes and just keeping the distance from him so on that front they aren't like a death sentence. Additionally, there's a sanctuary in Zarnesti for bears where they have like a few hundred bears all gotten from bad places like zoos, circuses or like with disabilities. If you really like bears you can go there to see some more. The easiest way to see bears is go to the Transfagarasan. The part between Lake Vidraru and the top of the pass is an area frequented by a lot of bears who came to see the tourists on the road with their cubs. I have seen hundreds of videos of people being extremely dumb with the bears like going up to pet them and other crazy shit like that and while they do end in a scare with the bear growling or doing some sudden movement of displeasure, I've never seen the bears actually attack someone.
Thanks so much for your comment! :) We do agree that bears usually don't attack humans, unless, like you said, people are dumb and try to pet them or something! We are doing the Transfagarasan next and we are so excited! But we won't be petting any bears hahaha!! And thanks for all the great information :)
A bear family!! and It's really in nature !. It was really interesting. It's a great choice to see several people with a guide rather than two people running into each other in the mountains. Dad bear looks really big and scary..Baby bears are too big to be cubs hahaha
Well that was an awesome experience. Seeing animals in their natural habitat is amazing. But also scary. Glad you two are enjoying Romania. Stay safe as always. 💗
@@JacobandJennyTravel oh Jenny, while on FaceTime today with Wyatt, he actually called me grandma. It sounded like a 20 months old “Grandma”, but I will take it. Woohoo! I’m on cloud nine. In about 3 1/2 weeks we will be down there, I’m so excited. 😀💗
Hello again, nice video. Soon Transfăgărășan will be closed so hurry to visit it There you will see lot of beautiful bears. By the way, feeding them is prohibited by the law so be careful.
I'm always paranoid about meeting a bear on trails but they are beautiful, gorgeous creatures, so glad u saw some! There's a lot of bears in that region and ofc all over in the mountain areas, that venture close or even into civilization, there were instances of a bear walking on some streets right in Brasov old town and in Busteni, Sinaia, Predeal they are very common. I bought bear spray for hikes cause I'm anxious but generally it should be fine. Oh btw there is a big bear sanctuary in Zarnesti, biggest in Europe, they look after some bears rescued from bad situations and they have daily tours, in case u want to go there(I was also the one that suggested going to Magura and Pestera villages that are right on the hills between Bran and Zarnesti). Hope the weather gets better again.
Wow that is so wild!! If we saw a bear walking down the street we would lose our minds haha!! Bear spray is always a smart idea. Thanks so much for watching :)
Nice video guys, I am happy you like my home town Brasov, I left Brasov for Michigan 25yrs ago, btw on the top of mountain Tampa, just behind the big BRASOV sign there was a little cabin/restaurant that has burned in 1977. That big BRASOV sign was installed latter, 2004 I believe. Also, behind the Tampa mountain that side of the City is called Cartierul Racadau, and years ago the bears used to come from the woods at night and look thru the garbage cans, not sure if today they still do that. Enjoy your trip!
So glad you guys got to see a family and, the most important, that you went with a tourguide❤❤ a lot of tourists just venture on their own or they get out of their cars when they spot them on the road, trying to get the best shots which is extremely dangerous. There were instances where people were attacked and ofc they were blaming the authorities afterwards for letting the bears roam around freely, which is ridiculous to me.
So awesome you finally got to see bears! Do they bait that area so the bears come around or is it just a common area where a lot of bears are? The ending when you were walking in the dark had a Blair witch project movie feel to it.
We were soooo happy we finally got to see some! It feels like it too forever haha! They said they occasionally put some food down, but they only put down a very small percentage of their diet so that the bears still have to find food on their own and don't become dependent on humans🙌🏼 and this area has 60% of the brown bear population in all of Europe! So crazy! Thanks for watching friend :)
So happy that you got to see the bears! I was in Romania last summer and was also so fortunate to see bears near Zarnesti. The guide told us that there is approximately 8000 bears in Romania now and the population is growing. 8000!!
Bears would never interact with a group of people in which you guys were. You were totally safe walking in a large group. When you're alone or 1-2 people, the story is different, but definitely you were never in danger.
Bears are unlikely to attack people as it's a populated area, so the bears are used to people and are also used to getting food from people, so they're not going to attack at random. Just don't assume they're pets and don't go try to pet them, they're still wild animals and may interpret your gesture as an attack, especially the mother bears with cubs, just don't even get near them because mother bears are extremely protective and aggressive when they have cubs with them.
You can see tons of bears, including large males as well as moms with cubs, on the side of the street while driving on the Transfagarasan, on the side of the mountain towards the dam (Vidraru). The best time is late in the afternoon, and you might be staring into a large bear's face with just the car window in between. It's illegal to feed them, but people do it anyways - so for some extra experiences have some apple slices with you. Be safe, stay in the car - don't forget they're wild animals. Good luck! 😄
We actually have been to Colorado a few different times and it is such a beautiful place! We went to Castle Rock and Rocky Mountain National Park. But somehow the bears stayed away from us there as well😂
Gosh, the amount of graffiti is a bit disheartening. Would be interested in knowing if it’s locals, tourists or what. Just the whole mindset of defacing property, or “marking your territory” or just showing off that you know how to spell your name here in the US and in various places around the world is an exploration in cultural identities. There are some cities and countries where it is not prevalent at all. Anyway, cool adventure again! I was thinking the bears must be able to smell humans in the viewing hideaway, especially since people are always there. It seems there’s some degree of respect between bears and humans. Sort of like raccoons here in SoCal. We know they are there, they obviously know and take advantage of our presence but they are seldom seen and interactions are usually brief and not awful. I’ve found myself standing or walking within a foot or two on a few occasions and I was just like “oh, hello” and went on with my business. One on my patio just hung out for 5 minutes a few feet from me eating something (couldn’t tell what, it was dusk). Glad you saw bears in the wild!
Mainly it's just kids trying their artistic side, but we have some graffiti teams that produce real art works. I forgot their names but you can search on google to find some of the works.
Yes whenever we see graffiti anywhere is such a bummer. Our guide did say the bears could definitely smell humans, but the smell was probably always there since there’s been so many humans in the hut! But we had to be very careful to make sure they couldn’t see us. It was quite the adventure! That is such a funny story, I guess most animals will just mind their business as long as you mind yours! 🙌🏼
