Busteni is the main trailhead point for hiking to the top of the Bucegi massif - like up to that cross you saw at the top of the mountains. You made it to the waterfall, which is a good ways up the mountain. On my first visit to Romania, I hiked up to the cross from Busteni while the rest of my group went to Brasov. I believe that Cantacuzino was also the name of the Romanian Orthodox monk who made a trip to the Holy Land in the middle ages and founded the town of Sinaia, which is a little ways down the hill from Busteni. He named the town Sinaia because a prominent mountain seen from there reminded him of Mount Sinai.
I came to Romania for the first time in March 2023 and did not have very good expectations. However. What a beautiful country and some brilliant food… I could live on Sarmale and Papernasi…
We hope you can get there soon! It is so wonderful. My entire family is from Germany, and I just got there a few years ago and it was amazing :) so fun connecting with your roots! Thank you for watching!
Cantacuzino castle is built in the Neoromanian style ,romanias original architectural style which is a combination of Italian and Byzantine/Turkish styles + decorative elements from Romanian folklore
Thanks for pointing out that important difference, Stefan. The Eastern Orthodox Church is quite different from Roman Catholicism, in its basic understanding and approach to God and spirituality, and in so much else. While the western half of Eastern Europe, like Poland, tends to be Catholic, the eastern half of the Balkans, like Romania, is Orthodox.
Five Below wishes they had coffee like 5 to go. You should have been able to see bears in that open field. That looked like perfect conditions. So happy we toured around Cantacuzino Castle. It's an incredible site!
Such a beautiful country! Love the waterfalls but not the bear worries! Coffee is so expensive in the US just a few days ago I had a small cappuccino in Nashville $6.
Omg. If you are in Busteni, you really REALLY need to take the cable up to the mountain and go to Caraiman cross. It's easy hike (no bears, as it's plateau) and the view is INSANE. Do not miss it if u're still there.
We are seriously sooo sad we didn't get to do this, it was our plan to go but somehow time got away from us. But this gives us a very good excuse to go back ;) thanks for the recommendation!!
Castel Cantacuzino, very nice place, this year me and my fiance will do our wedding there. We rented the castel fom 14:00 till the next day in the weekend, just us the staff and the guests. We are so excited.
Hi, nice video. If you are still in Romania and have time, you must visit Fundata & Fundata Resort, Sibiu, Brasov and Oradea as well before leaving our Country. Thanks for visiting and Enjoy!
Entering the Castle's park was free, some years ago, but I suppose they decided to cash in the notoriety from the series. And you guys didn't actually reach the waterfall "Urlatoarea" that is at the end of that trail. You actually lost the trail, by the looks of it. At least you enjoyed the view, as it was :)
The Monastery is orthodox which is the dominant branch of Christianity in Romania. When the original christian church split in 1054 (i think, I m not sure exactely over the year but research the Great schism or split, not sure how to call it in English), it split into the Catholic Church in the Western Roman Empire and Orthodox in the Eastern or Bizantine Empire (the Eastern remanants of the Roman empire). Other mainly orthodox countries that you may have heared of are Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria, Belaruss, Greece and Serbia I believe. Mainly Greece and Russia havr the 2 types of orthodoxy that some people follow, the more influencial countries so to say but no many want to get away from the Russian orthodoxy ways for obvious reasons (the Russians celebrate Christmas on 7th of January while Romanians, Bulgarians and Greeks celebrate it with the Western Catholic world on the 24th of December, we still celebrate Easter with them but it s in talks to change and lots of people want that). However not all Romanians are Orthodox, there are Catholics, some protestant churches and even muslims, at least those are the official recognised cults. Edited to add the correct year of the schism.
@@JacobandJennyTravel the patriarchs from each country have to agree on changing the date for Easter. Russia will obviously not agree but the others can agree to change it if it s enough will from the leadership of those churches and from the followers. In Romania there is even some petition you can sign to show support for that measure. Even non believers want to change the date due to practical and political reasons. The orthodox churches dont have one leader like the Catholic church, it s all country based so tehnically Romania or Greece for example can change the date without Russia having a say into it for example. The Ukrainians already started celebrating Christmas in December since the war started as a statement of getting further away from the Russian culture and church. There are similar reasons for why the other countries would like to change the Easter s date plus the fact lots of Romanian emigrants work in Catholic countries and cannot celebrate Easter with all of us since they dont get their free days in the same period.
@@andreeas.2362 in fact, if we are talking about Easter, the Ierusalim patriarchate has the final decision. The mistery of the Easter fire in Christ's tomb is too important for Orthodox churches!
Many non-European countries practice some form of Orthodox Christianity (as far as Ethiopia or the southern Indian state of Kerala). Georgia in the Caucasus is one of the most Orthodox countries.
By the time you leave Romania you'll be 10 kilos fatter. Food is so, so good. The Monastery was built there because a monk I've met many years ago had a vision. You should have seen how modest were the beggings. Anyway, if you're still there, go up on the plateau and see the Caraiman Cross. The view from there is stunning and the cross I think is about 35 meters high.
