Just a disclaimer guys: I have no idea why I kept calling this song "Bedtime Stories" instead of "Bedtime Story" lolol. So, sorry about that! Hope you're able to forgive me 😂 Also, I just learned that Bjork wrote this song and now all the dots are connecting haha!
The album was called Bedtime Stories and the song Bedtime Story :)
@@Marc-zi5cq Yes, I think that's what I kept getting confused!
No worries boo!
Song produced by Madonna and Nellee Hooper 👍
It's quite an anomaly - it's one of the two songs on the album (Bedtime Stories) that aren't R&B or Hip-Hop, the preceding track "Sanctuary" is very very very beautiful, both tracks when taken into a larger context seem like ONE long song
it really reminds me of Bjork's debut album Debut - both lyrically and sonically.
Can you please react to Bjork's music as well? Maybe Bachelorette
this song is a very special part of Madonna’s discography. It is listed as one of the most expensive music videos of all time with a cost of $5 million ($8.49 million in 2020 dollars). It features surrealistic and new age imagery, with influences from artists such as Remedios Varo, Frida Kahlo and Leonora Carrington. The video received acclaim from critics and is permanently displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. React to Batuka next please!
Wow! I loved this video a lot just from the artistic, abstract perspective! It's about movement, it's about duplicity, and it's about the creations of the unconscious mind, and I think those concepts were incredibly and elegantly captured in this music video! Definitely a fave of mine visually from Madonna!
She's dreaming! She represented her dreams with images of Surrealism art. She was inspired here by many surrealist artist, for example, Remedios Varo. Amazing video. It's in constant ehibition at the MoMA in New York.
Its actually the director’s vision and Madonna respects that as much as she admired Bjork and all the painters that she collects. But Madonna still brought the vision to life with her amazing acting skills.
This video from 1995 was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York as a part of their heritage. It was the very first music video to be acquired by a museum as a work of art.
The video shows Madonna entering her unconscious through a lucid dream state of mind, and it's inspired by surrealist painters Dorothea Tanning, Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington. Actually some scenes are direct representations of their paintings (for example "A Little Night Music" by Dorothea Tanning or "The Lovers" by Remedios Varo).
It also shows elements from Sufism (the mystical side of Islam) through the whirling dancers called "dervishes". They say that when they twirl they have access to their unconscious and communicate with God.
So, you said you never saw her with dark hair? React to "The Power of Goodbye" or "Rain" ❤
All of this 👆🏼💕
Tried finding it in 2018 and couldn’t find it 🥺
@@garycambridge5513 well, museums only display a very tiny percentage of the works in their heritage catalog
"Nothing Really Matters" also with very dark hair. "I'll Remember" too.
Hi, Ayanna, I think it’s important to know that this song was written to Madonna by Björk. And once we are talking about surrealism and Björk, react to Björk’s “All is Full of Love”. Love your reaction as usual.
Hi James! I think I will react to that song! I'm definitely going to research surrealism and educate myself better on the art form as it's quite unique and beautiful in its own regard! Thanks for the love! Hope you're having a nice day!! 💕
@@AYANNACYMONE oh you’re welcome. And there’s something else. This song is a dream. Madonna is put on that sleeping machine in the beginning and all this is happening in her mind. This video is just amazing!
Bjorks lyrics were referring to Madonna’s need to always be constricted by her discipline and schedule and need to always be “plugged in.” Bjork was imploring madonna to let go and “get unconscious.”
Madonnas response to the lyrics was to create and atmosphere where she was “plugging in.” In essence, like being constricted by a matrix like reality, before the matrix movie was around.
All the symbolism was Madonna just referencing her favorite artists in a way that connected to the concept, like frida khalo.
I watched this one reactor who compared this video with The Matrix movies.
Björk was a collaborator in writing this song along Nellee Hooper, and Marius De Vries. It’s not solely Björk’s song, and she did not come up with the concept for for the song either. Obviously You can hear Björk’s fingerprints all over it, she helped to create a great track that Madonna & Hooper produced.
Actually, Bjork didnt have to think about Madonna when she wrote it. Madonna is fully aware of Bjork philosophy and Madonna being a scholar of oriental philosophy as Recognized by Harvard knows that Bjork will pen something she relates to.
Victoria Did she take credit? If not, then its false. Madonna respects poetry. She hired Bjork for a reason. M is too secure of herself. She just wanted to promote a new kind of music and lyrics that is consistent to her preachings.
@@Parker-930 there’s so many interviews of bjork talking about creating this concept for Madonna and what it meant to her but ok
This is from one of her best album imo. I hope you react to more videos from this album.
Secret and Take a Bow are stunning both as songs and as videos. Then obviously Bad Girl and Rain from Erotica is definitely worth checking out. Gorgeous songs and videos, trust me ;)
Oh, I definitely will! I really feel like I'm seeing a different side to Madonna as an artist in this video. I've praised Madonna from the beginning on how beautifully shot her music videos are and how incredible she is at telling a story visually, but this video is next level imo! It legitimately felt like I watching a full-fledged movie during this music video ahaha!
@@AYANNACYMONE I agree she created such a vibe with this. Bad Girl is imo her most ambitious video and really like a 6 minute mini movie. Please consider reacting to it. I'm sure you will enjoy both song and video. Great channel you got here :)
I agree, this album is probably my favorite Madonna album. I believe it is often overlooked In terms of being her best work.
What it is so iconic about this video it was made ahead of Game of Thrones once again Madonna Ciccone ahead of everybody.
The lavish music video was inspired by the works of female surrealist painters, Madonna explained to Aperture magazine, "like Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo. There’s that one shot where my hands are up in the air and stars are spinning around me. And me flying through the hallway with my hair trailing behind me, the birds flying out of my open robe - all of those images were an homage to female surrealist painters; there’s a little bit of Frida Kahlo in there, too." Beyond being the inspiration behind true art-pop (ahem) housed at the Museum of Modern Art, Bedtime Story is like a mystical tease of what would be Madonna’s several year-long reawakening as an enlightened Kabbalah-tronica disciple on Ray Of Light…and beyond.
Bedtime Stories was nominated for a Grammy but lost to Joni Mitchell but I'm not sure.
You are a smart girl, i always love how you analyize videos and how much thought you give in your reaction videos. Very enoyable. I hope you react to Madonna's Bad Girl video soon as it's so complex in its storyline, goes perfect with the lyrics though and is one of her most ambitios videos ever. I'd love to hear your take on it. :)
Thank you for another Madonna reaction, been awhile 💗 💫
🤍 of course! Thank YOU for watching!! 😊
This was another New Look for Madonna who always kept changing her Style (Sonically & Visually) The Surrealism/ Avante- Garde direction is def influenced by Bjork.
As many have stated this great song was written by Bjork and Produced by Nelle Hooper who I believe was dating Bjork at the time as well as Helping Bjork on her 1995 album Post ( Hyperballad is 🤯🤯🙌)
The calibre of artistry in this video is beyond. There are so many artistic references in it. This video is displayed in museum of modern art for its groundbreaking artistry. Great reaction btw.
Dark hair ray of light videos!! The first time is weird but after watching it a couple of time you start to find it really cool and less weird!!!😅😂
Great video!! Thanks!!😊
This video is basically a dreamscape inspired by various surrealist painters that Madonna likes (mostly female) and also Russian surrealist films by Andrei Tarkovsky and a film called The Color of Pomegrantes (which was also recently referenced in a Lady Gaga video). I remember you mentioning you're studying film? Definitely check some of those out if you haven't! Also, this was the director Mark Romanek's second video with Madonna - "Rain" is the first and it's STUNNING.
I will definitely check those out! Thanks for the recommendations! And yes, you're correct! I have a Bachelor's degree in Digital Video Production!
It's in a dream state.
Oh my oh my, bedtime story.. You should definitely check out her live performance if this one at the Brits 95 award show.. The only time she has ever performed this track live. Just give our queen some hair-extensions a Versace dress and a wind machine and you have yourself an absolutely iconic television moment.
You saw her with dark hair in the Like A Prayer video. Great song, amazing video by a musical genius.
You know, I guess you're right! I think I meant like dark black hair like she has in this video! It's quite different from her signature blonde look!
@@AYANNACYMONE She usually dons her dark hair when she is doing something she considers serious.
@@AYANNACYMONE True and that just reminded me you haven't seen Frozen by her yet which is considered one of her best songs ever. Huge hit in 1998. You should put that on the list as well ;) Black Hair and almost gothic Madonna
Madonna is the Queen of Pop 👑
The men whirling, called Sufi Whirling, is a reference to Sufism, which is a branch of Islam.
Finally!!!!!
Queen
Yaas!
This is not a video. This is art
Hi Ayanna! It's all about things that are just so strange, that you cannot explain them by ordinary language - the experiences of the unconscious realm - so you have to resort to (strange) visuals to convey them somehow
really nice video
Nice reaction, next one is frozen
It's all a dream and it's all inspired by female surrealist painters she owns
Loved your reaction. The spinning guys with the hats: They are known in the West as Whirling Dervishes. They are one branch of a mystical Islamic sect called Sufism. Sufism is based on experiencing god directly through meditative practices. The Dervishes are found mostly in Turkey, and their spinning puts them into a trance-like meditative state. Many mainstream Sunni Muslims hate Sufis, calling them blasphemers and non-Muslim, so they are a persecuted sect in many Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia (Turkey being an exception and, surprisingly, Iran). Anyway, I hope this increases your enjoyment of the video.
Madonna sleeping in a kinda lab research facility for dream research.
What was the outcome of this study?
I've always wondered about pt.2
😍😍😍😍👏👏👏👏
would you ever do a reaction to Lana Del Rey's Young and Beautiful video?
It was a dream lol. Obviously
This came out in 1994/1995 so both as a song and video, it was so avant garde and ahead of its time. It really was any other video at the time and cost a fortune to make with the technology they had back then. Madonna in Wonderland. Piece of art imo. The song still sounds fresh 25 years later.
I love all of Madonna’s songs!!! I love her!!!
The imagery is inspired by paintings.
2:15 You see these men dancing. The whirling dance of meditation, Dervishes are devoted followers of Islamic Sufism.
Common in North Africa, Turkey, the Balkans, Iran, Pakistan, India, Afghanistn and Tajikistan.
Madonna has always been an avid, serious art collector. This video is inspired by female surrealist painters amongst other things.
You're scared by art? Haha. Romanek is an awesome director, very visual and surreal. One of my fave M songs and possibly my fave M music video.
I love that we finally have the official music video in HD
Bedtime Story is from her best album Bedtime Stories, at least for me :)
Woow 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This song and video still slaps to this day! She's friggin amazing.
I’ve just realized that when Madonna gives birth to the bunch of doves that could be her statement about females are who give birth to humans (this is Nature), in opposition to what christianity says about a dove (as the holy spirit) giving life to a human called jesus (this is “culture”, man-made, something that was created by humans, artificial)
Anyway, also Madonna said it in this masterpiece (song): we have “to forget what we have ever learned” (this includes PREJUDICES) in order to be open and ready to build “new knowledge” (as a united society) and in this way we will be able to create respectful, balanced and LOVING social relationships where UNDERSTANDING (through paying attention to the feelings instead of the words) is the central axis of these new social relationships (just as Madonna said, LOVE is UNDERSTANDING)
LMAOOO why are you scared omg anyways ilysm you’re the best music reactor
hehe just jokes! you're too sweet! 💕💕

Actually people in Turkey do that twirling dance thing that those men did in this video. I think it's called Sufi Whirling. It is a form of meditation.
She's telling a bed story and dreaming. Yes I think you have seen her with dark hair, it was in her "Human Nature " music video a while back, you commented on corn rolls in her hair and she had dark hair (smile)
“Unidentifiable things” sums it up perfectly 😅
She didn't get it, she wasn't ready for it... 🙄🤷🏻♂️
It's funny how kids nowadays only have references not from art but tv shows
She has black hair in “frozen” n “the power of goodbye “ video 🤭🥰
A dream, you can go anywhere, any places where it's just weird and unidentified...let's get uncunscious honey!! This video was shown at the the Museum of Modern Art in New York because of its artistic beauty. Madonna again in such an artistic place.
You talked over the line, "inside we're all still wet". I was waiting for your reaction to that!!!!!
This song was written by Bjork.
This video was state of art CGI when released and also was the most expensive video ever at the time of release in 1995 (over $5 million budget). It became the first ever pop music video to be part of MOMA New York Art Collection. After this video release Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson hired the same video director (Mark Romanek) and did "Scream" (that remains the most expensive music video ever).
About the song. There was a video remix for the Junior Vasquez single mix (the version she did live at Brit Awards 1995) that was much more clubby and that version played more at radios (at least in Europe) comparing to the original version from this video.
Listen to the lyrics... ugh
The graphics will always blow me away whenever I watch this music video
Such a beautiful work of art
Yes! Her best video ❤️❤️❤️
You gained another subscription. I love to see how popular is becoming to react to Madonna's stuff. As a fan I feel so happy to watch this reactions. Thank you for this, you're great.
1994
This was Madonna foreshadowing her transition into electronic pop, her following album Ray Of Light brought it into American mainstream music
