Feels like yesterday, I was 16 at the time in 1995 and once it was aired on MTV, I taped it on a vhs cassette. Just like dream the 90s. The coolness of Madonna!
This 40-minute event was held on the night of March 18, 1995. Madonna hosted this pajama party-themed to promote her Bedtime Stories album and the live airing on MTV of her Bedtime Story music video. She rented the Grand Ballroom of Webster Hall in East Village NYC to accommodate 1,500 invited guests mostly DJs, MTV video jockeys, music entertainment writers, some Madonna super fans, some ‘90s celebrities including Björk and Babyface who attended the party. DJ Junior Vasquez cued the dance floor music. Refreshments were served. Although the highlight of the night was Madonna reading a children’s book with a moral lesson, and the airing of the BS mv-the guests were in a dance party mood and became raucous when Madonna read the children’s book to complete the bedside story theme of the event. But the remarkable thing was Madonna’s motherly like patience and stern wit with this crowd. Eight years later beginning in 2003 she would publish 7 children’s picture books, all with moral lessons and spiritual wisdom she learned as a devotee of Kabbalah. Three of these books topped the New York Best Seller List, and the first six books by 2007 sold over 3million copies. She donated all the profits from her children’s books to the Spirituality For Kids Foundation, an education and outreach arm of the Kabbalah Center. ❤your reaction and for covering this video.
Thank you! ❤️❤️ And thank you for sharing this background info on the event! Love that she went on to publish children's books a few years later - Seems like a perfect fit for her. ❤️
She always connected so well with Kurt Loder , he was instinctively tuned in to her vibe and didn’t ask stupid questions so Madonna was more open with him than other interviewers. She had such a great time here it was infectious.
And that bedtime stories party 🥳🎉 was so exciting to watch ⌚ Madonna really knows how to have a great time and everyone around are having a great time as well just to be in her company dancing 💃 and having a good time
I saw this live when it aired .. my heart fell to the floor as I watched the audience become interrupting, disrespectful & rude. you could see how anger was trying to creep in each time she gave the audience that mama glare. she handled it with class. I feel like after that, her fans knew not to take her for granted
Was always great when she talked to Kurt Loder. On MTV he was usually the "grown-up" in the room and she seemed to enjoy teasing him about it. I remember watching this with my roommate and we were like "oooo, Mama's gettin mad!" 😮 She read the story AND she read the crowd!
This was such a fun way to premiere a new music video. I was 16 and remember watching this the night it aired and being blown away! Loved M’s look and her playful attitude and the confirming of her starring role in Evita. 😍 ‘You go girl!’ then M saying; ‘I will go if you don’t shut up!’ was classic M 😂 Thank you again, ladies! Love re-watching this stuff with you guys. ❤️❤️
i really loved Madonnas whole look at that time she was so beautiful and still is very beautiful she was definitely giving Marylin Monroe vibes back in the 1990s 😊😊😊
Thank you for reacting to the Pajama Party!!!! You were very classy with the crowd being so rude when Madonna was reading the story. I remember seeing this when it came out and I was a senior in high school and I was so mad at the crowd....hahaha... but being in a room with Madonna, like her concerts, I cannot control my reactions...hehehehe😁
Sad. If Madonna read me a bedtime story, I would be listening intently. As a bug myself, I feel that I have been judged before many knew me. Good lesson that few adhere to, I'm sad to say. Great reaction ladies!
This was so fun, except for the awkward part of rude people. lol. Thank you for doing this! if you wouldn’t mind, maybe make a note that when you get to the Ray Of Light era, there’s another Kurt Loder MTV production where they go behind the scenes with her in the studio. It’s really a revealing look into her creative process. Cheers you guys! ❤
I love watching you gals! I am so glad you appreciate the artistic side of Madonna. I have loved her since like a virgin and have every album she has done since then. Thank you for taking this journey!!!
You are absolutely right in saying that the story she read relates to how the media and society treated her. For years, even when she was promoting other stuff, journalists would ask her a lot of sexist questions, specially focusing her sexual aspect. I don’t think they’d do it if it were a man, you know? Anyway, I know there’s still a month before international women’s day, and I dunno how far ahead you plan your content, but I’d like to suggest you react to her 2016 Billboard Woman of The Year speech for this special occasion. And yes, Kleenex required for this one 😅
We've actually seen the Woman of the Year speech (not as a reaction), but we've thought about watching it again as a review/discussion. There's so much to talk about in that amazing speech (and Kleenex was definitely needed). Great suggestion for a International Women's Day video - Thank you! ❤️❤️
Even though I particularly couldn't get into the album(I only liked 3 songs on it) I loved watching this back then. To me, it just proved that Madonna still owned the world and MTV despite the backlash she received from Erotica. Everyone gathered around their tv and watched this back then.
What a lovely surprise ladies. Thank you for reviewing this. As usual, your comments were extremely insightful. I haven’t seen this in quite some time. I had forgotten how awful the audience was 😆 This was definitely the time of… It’s Madonna’s world, and we’re just living in it. See you very soon, I hope. Time for You’ll See! 😁 Have a great day! ♥️
Hi Brenda and Emily. I'm really glad you reacted to the video premiere dance party! 🕺 💃 I had the chance to attend this event because my friend invited me along as his guest. They didn't even show all the fun dancing, Madonna did on stage to get the crowd going. She was very interactive with a big smile. The crowd was also very loud and dancing non-stop, which contributed to the excitement of the evening. Thanks also for continuing to post reactions. 💯
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️ And wow!! What an exciting experience that must've been for you!!! Can't even imagine being there in person and seeing Madonna interacting with the crowd like that. Such an amazing memory! ❤️🎉
If you like remixes, Madonna's "Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones" is a good place to start. It was released in 2022 and it includes Junior Vasquez's remixes from this album and among many, many others. It's a great compilation album to dance to. Madonna has also reissued all of the remix EPs on streaming platforms for the Bedtime Stories album.
Brenda again your reaction and analysis of Kurt Loader and Madonna is spot on. I used to love it when he interviewed her. You can tell she found comfort in him and he was not going to ask her dumb exploitive questions. I love her interview with him in Spain while shooting Take a Bow. Kurt Loader is ICONIC and it was a big loss to MTV when he left and when they decided to leave music basically. Thanks for a fantastic video.
Love this!! MTV have done some amazing launches and I really miss looking out for their Madonna Weekend’s❤ Really wished Madonna had toured the Bedtime Stories album as so many songs on the album that I would have loved to have seen live!! But… Madonna had waited and worked so hard to get the Evita role… well deserved! That book was so sweet and I wonder if that’s why she ensured that when she wrote her Children’s books such as The English Roses, that they all delivered an amazing message.
Speaking of the female painters she mentioned,Madonna collects all and at one point, was one of the top 100 art collectors in the U.S., her art collection is said to be worth $100million.
I remember all the big new york radio stations were giving away tickets to this .i had my phone on speed dial the whole week before. Sadly enough i had to watch it on mtv.such a great era
Yay, loved the reaction, as per usual, of course. My Dad used to make up stories every single night for me. And I'd always be in them as the main character hahahaha In them, I had this big bus that I'd drive around filled with these weird creatures and the adventures were amazing. A lot more violent than you'd expect though but all in fun lol Oh i miss him so much. XxX
what a rowdy bunch who didnt know when to be quiet, when Madonna actually really seemed to care about this story. You can tell how she was joking in the beginning but began to get annoyed as time went on with them screaming while she was reading.
i think i didn't watched the whole video of the party till now. I feel a bit uncomfortable seeing Madonna waiting people to shut up when they were supossed to be quiet, but it seems it's impossible to control people. All the party and reading that tale as a bedtime story was a wonderful and original idea. I'm glad that you are enjoying all these things that Madonna made in the past, kisses.
Ahh please don’t leave this BTS album without reaction to Love tried to Wellcome me and Forbidden love at least. She doesn’t sing then on any tour and we are sure you’ll love them!
When we finish our journey through her singles and go back for a deeper dive into the albums, we'll definitely react to those. It may be a bit, but we'll get there. 😉❤️
After the Erotica era, this whole album, the pajama party and reading a bedtime story were just genius. Don't judge a bug until you know her! Just wow! There is so much more about Madonna than just being that superstar or whatever. She's art! A real artist! With always referring to artworks and artists in her work, she learned me some art history, while I was going to art school myself. Even on our academy they showed 'Truth or dare' and 'SEX', so we could talk and question it being art or not. Such exciting times to be a Madonna fan.
I think it is rather gut wrenching to watch her in such a vulnerable position. While the mostly friendly audience didn’t seem to irk her much, I feel it was the one guy heard telling her to expose her breasts (in far more aggressive language) who got to her. What strength it must have taken at that stage in her career to not respond to that! It truly made me feel quite saddened, and it is most definitely not something a man would be able to do today without being seriously admonished for it. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy you reacting to this as much as to her performances as it’s a bit of a mixed bag as a presentation, but it’s testament to your charisma and charm that I found myself beaming and feeling uplifted as I always do watching and listening to you both share your perspectives and feelings! ❤
Great reviews . You both completely get her videos and reasoning behind things that she does or has done in her career .When do you watch Madonna in concert ? I remember you both saying u had tickets .
Madonna making Brenda cry is almost as good as Miss Spider's Tea Party itself.
❤️❤️
Kurt Loader was one of Madonna’s fave interviewers. She felt comfortable around him.
the Making of Take A Bow is very worth watching too. She was funny there and also Kurt Loader was interviewing her, who she likes and respected.
Brenda, you have such a pure, open heart. What a gift, always keep that.
Aww, you're so sweet - Thank you. Sending so much love your way! ❤️❤️
Madonna was fun back then and she still is fun. The coolest superstar ever!
Her look for this period of time was pure Jean Harlow.❤
Always dripping in Versace as well, loved this period fashion wise.😊
“You go guuurrl” “I will go if you don’t shut up!” Queen!!!
Perfect! ❤️❤️

She definitely handled it very well (and it must've been frustrating, since she was trying to share something so personal through this story). ❤️❤️

Hadn't seen this in so long. Loved watching it with you two. Another great reaction video 👏
Aww, thank you! ❤️❤️
Junior was THE dj back in the 90s until him and Madonna had a falling out 🤷♂️ too bad, his remixes were amazing!
If Madonna Calls…I’m Not Here
