I absolutely loved your tour with him. He seems like a genuine guy. Someone who has a love for cacti and succulents. He is a plethora of knowledge as well!
Rob Roy is a very passionate man in his hobby. He is very generous in sharing his knowledge as well. Thank you for watching the videos and leaving your thoughts as well. 🙂 Cheers! 🌵☕️
Learned a lot from this video! Thank you! Also... I can't be the only one who burst into laughter at 9:04 ??? I think he's trying to tell you something xD ...
This was so interesting. It proves how resilient cacti are! They will find a way to grow no matter what! Thank you both for sharing all this knowledge! 🌵🌵🌵😀
WOW we LOVED Part two :-D Rob Roy is AMAZING and it was so wonderful to hear about his propagation tips :-D I had never heard of the hot needle method before WOW :-D I have had a few of my cacti pup out from the growing top after they have been damaged by mealy bugs or spider mites etc, and WOW at the slicing method haha :-D and the variegated cacti and the seeds, I have learned loads WOW :-D thanks so much Ana for sharing your INCREDIBLE visit to Rob Roy and a BIG thank you to Rob Roy for sharing his collection and propagation tips too :-D I wish we lived closer to visit haha XXXXX
When he first said “hot nail” I thought he was talking figuratively. Hahaha. Then I realized later on that he meant what he said when he took out that blow torch and nail! Lol. 🤣 I’m glad he did not make me do any slicing or I would have passed out from all the shock. Haha. Thanks, Lyn. I’m glad you like the video. ☺️
Great video Ana, Rob certainly knows his stuff. I don’t think I could bring myself to shoving a hot nail into one of my cactus though lol, and you looked a little scared doing it 😂 Great that you’ve got the cactus you hot nailed though so we can see how it produces offsets, keep us updated with that please 😊 Great haul too, love the Copiapoa and Echinopsis. Thank you for sharing Ana and thank you to Rob for sharing his knowledge and awesome collection of plants. 👍🏻🌵☀️
Daz, I was cringing inside as I drove the nail in. And I could actually hear the sizzle and smell the burning cactus! 😮 Not for the faint of heart. But I saw how successful he was doing it and that is the fast way to multiply his cactus especially for sale. He says a clump of golden barrel sells for a higher price too because it is not common. Thanks for commenting as always. 😉☕️
It certainly seems to work and as you say it’s really the only way to get a cactus to offset that doesn’t offset naturally. I might give it a go myself if the future if I find a cheap golden barrel in a nursery, definitely not doing it to any in my collection lol. You did great though Ana, and these two videos from Rob’s place have been awesome. 😉 ☕️ 🌵🌼
Hala! Katakot! 😬 Very unconventional method of propagation but it makes so much sense especially if you want fast results. well done, Ana. Rob was so generous in sharing his expertise. Thank you for sharing! 🙏❤️
When I was a kid it was pretty common knowledge to propagate cactus easily you drill a hole at the grow point. Not shocking for me since I did it as a kid :P
Whoa!! I got hot flashes and excited when I saw "Hot Nailing a Cactus", LOL!!! But I get it now! What a procedure! AMAZING! I know you enjoyed that visit! Thanks for taking me along. So nice to see you ( and Rob) again!
Wow! I learned a lot from these 2 videos from Rob's! I love the golden barrel cactus. I have picked it up more than once to buy in the past week and put it down. Lol. It will be my next purchase. Thanks for sharing.
What an awesome video, Anna. 👏👏👏 Rob Roy is such a cool guy and his plants are just stunning. Wow....I didn't know about the bisecting method on those agaves. So intriguing. If only I'm a local, my name would've been the first in the appointment book. 😅😅 Nice haul too, Anna. Well done, Ana and husband on a great video. 🙏🙏👏👏👏👏
The Prickly Pair, his techniques are not for the faint of heart. Lol! I am also eager to see how my golden barrel turns out. Thank you for stopping by! ☺️☕️
That was so fun to watch. You got to play with fire and propagate haha! 😅🔥 I would like to see a close up of all the different propagating techniques he was discussing if you try them sometime.🌵🐞💚
That’s So..... Cool.... it really makes sense to me by killing the growing point and not killing the entire plant. It’s just like by cutting the upper portion ( growing point) of a single columnar type of cactus. Then eventually it will produce another baby plants on the side of the mother plant. ❤️
This was very cool and instructional. He has some unique methods of propagating. I will have to try some of those methods one of these days. I have seen that Sunburst opuntia, but I could not afford to get one. It is rather striking looking. You had a great haul, and what an awesome tour.
Thanks Kelly. It takes courage to do his propagation methods. Lol! 😄 Incidentally, I saw a lot of Sunburst opuntia at Home Depot in my area yesterday. But I wanted one like what Rob has, half variegated and half normal. 😉
@@CactusCaffeine That is exactly where I saw the Sunburst Opuntia too. It was the first time I had ever seen it, and then I saw it on your video. It was a larger plant with a big price. I wish I could've purchased it. I like the all variegated look. I love almost all plants that have variegation though.
Mr. Robocact, allow me to call you so, your multiplication methods are ingenious, out of your own experience. I thought that the barrel was in trouble, but you convinced me. Warmest greetings from Khartoum, Sudan.
wonderful. is there a video demonstration on how to bisect the agaves like the ones he mentioned ? wanna try it but would really appreciate if I could get more from some who has had the experience.
Oh my gosh Ana!!!! W O W again. I freakin loved this!!!! Rob seems like an incredible person to hang out with. Such great info and I CANT wait to see how your golden barrel does!! Very cool video!! Thank you for sharing!!!!! 🌵❤️
Hola! I really love his place hopefully if i ever make it back to the States i can drop a visit 🌵 Really nice of Rob and awesome gift love the plant 🌿 haul! Can't wait to see the updates 🌞
CrazyCactusCollector, I was fascinated as well with his plants and his knowledge. I’m excited to see the flowers from my new haul, hopefully next spring! Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. ☺️🌵☕️
I don’t have the courage to do them yet but I do want to try at least the hot nailing when I find some cheap barrel cactus for sale. Thank you Judy! 🙂☕️
Wow I’ve never seen those types of propagating methods. Did you keep that golden barrel cactus? I would love to see an update video on it if it does end up growing new parts!
Slicing an agave seems more tricky than slicing a cactus because the knife may slip off-center, if I'm not wrong. Do you take the Agave out of the soil and cut it from the root up? Otherwise, how would you do it?
I did not get to see how Rob does it but he did tell me to just slice the whole plant right in the middle through the meristem and down to the roots. 🙂 It is easier said than done. Hahaha.
He said just slice with a sharp knife exactly in half down the meristem all the way through the roots. It takes courage! Lol. 😉 Thank you and nice to see you again here. ☕️☕️
Hello! A bit late but I happen to have a question. How deep was the golden barrel nailed? I wanted to try doing that to mine so it could produce pups but I'm scared to start.
The nail went in about 1/3 of the cactus. I’m happy to say this golden barrel is now producing tiny pups. Fingers crossed that they all grow well. ☺️🌵☕️
Oh yeah. Oo nga pala. Hindi ko pa nagawan ng update yun. Sige, I will list it down as a video line up. Pero I will tell you know, it has small pups forming na on top. 😃👍🏼
Rob conducts lectures to organizations and plant clubs. Feel free to share this video so more people can learn from him. 🙂🌵☕️

Thanks for taking me along. So nice to see you ( and Rob) again!
Tim, LOL on the hot flashes. Maybe it’s the effect of Smb? 😉 I enjoyed my trip a lot. Everything was spontaneous. Thank you and “kampay”! ☕️🍺
What an interesting guy & methods !
True! Definitely Robroy is not your traditional gardener. 😉
Thanks kabayan for sharing
Rick Domingo, walang anuman kabayan. I was so excited to learn his tricks, too. Salamat po at pinanood niyo ulit Ang video ko. ☺️☕️

@@CactusCaffeine Hi Ana, I won't have done it before but now yes with what I've learnt from Rob Roy.
Amazing !
Indeed! Thank you. ☺️ Have a great week! ☕️

That was so fun to watch. You got to play with fire and propagate haha! 😅🔥 I would like to see a close up of all the different propagating techniques he was discussing if you try them sometime.🌵🐞💚
Virescent, I still have to gather courage to do it to my own plants! 🤣

It’s just like by cutting the upper portion ( growing point) of a single columnar type of cactus. Then eventually it will produce another baby plants on the side of the mother plant. ❤️
Rick Domingo, right! And according to him, if the top portion is not worth saving or will not grow, like with barrels, he uses this method. 🙂
This was very cool and instructional. He has some unique methods of propagating. I will have to try some of those methods one of these days. I have seen that Sunburst opuntia, but I could not afford to get one. It is rather striking looking. You had a great haul, and what an awesome tour.

Thank you! His teachings are all based on experience, too. It was a pleasure to meet him. ☺️🌵☕️
When the video opened up with him saying “drive a hot nail into their head” I got genuinely scared 😂

What a great video Anna I totally enjoyed this I don't have very many Cactus so I'm not sure if I would try it let me know if you do
I don’t have the courage to do them yet but I do want to try at least the hot nailing when I find some cheap barrel cactus for sale. Thank you Judy! 🙂☕️
Wow interesting stuff, I don't think I am brave enough to try hot nailing lol xx
Can you update the golden barrel and thanks Rob for educating us with your knowledge
Nuki Timbuleng, I will. Thank you! 🙂🌵☕️
Wow I’ve never seen those types of propagating methods. Did you keep that golden barrel cactus? I would love to see an update video on it if it does end up growing new parts!
Yes, I brought the little golden barrel home with me. I hope it does what it is supposed to do. Will keep you posted. 🙂👍🏼
We need an update on that nailed golden barrel please
The hot nailing process was intense. Naturally I would of thought that would kill the cacti!
Raiden Uchiha, me too! I was cringing while doing it. Lol! 😄 But it all makes sense
@@CactusCaffeine please do give us a update on that cacti that was hot nailed in the near future. I'm eager to see how it's coping 😣

I did have an update on the golden barrel. Here is the link. 🙂

do that same thing to a zucchini plant and you can get multiple runners and more squash
Can you hot nail any cactus? And how long should you put the hot nail in it???
how did he cut the agaves in 1/2?
He said just slice with a sharp knife exactly in half down the meristem all the way through the roots. It takes courage! Lol. 😉 Thank you and nice to see you again here. ☕️☕️

Mary Bayer, I believe you can do the hot nailing on mammillaria as well as most of them are round shape.
Thanks so much. The video was awesome.
Hey! Will golden barrel pups take root in soil?
Definitely! 🙂
take a short cut and just graft them
