    The fact that he's self-taught and has no classical training still blows my mind.

      he does have classical training

    • @nerea4327
      @nerea4327 7 місяців тому +9

      @@Pattyjonson Nope. It’s a common misconception. He tried piano classes when he was 6, but he quit because he didn’t like being told how to play. He taught himself and played piano recitals at school. He got As in music class, so he got a scholarship to take classical guitar lessons for 2 years. He then discovered rock and bought an electric guitar after seeing a video of Hendrix. Hell, in some early interviews he said couldn’t even read music. He learned everything by himself and with Muse.

      It's insane! I have no clue how to train the ear to replica this!
      I have classical training on violin and still can't remember all of Brandenburg #3 or Concerto in E minor, but I like it low. Air on the G string is still my favourite....

    • @tutsybassista

      I believe it's cuz of his teacher picking on the position of his middle finger; probably the same finger that hangs when he's doing a crazy guitar solo.

      What's up with this Blockades shit? This performance was in 2001, I believe. You didn't also notice that they were playing early Psycho since 1999 before landing on Drones in 2015? It's still not exactly the same, but it's quite popular in all music.

      You're right. Sadly Matt doesn't have classical music education but I'm one of the people who do have music school graduated and first, his style doesn't go with chopin, because he has beethoven style of playing, so it is his heavy representation and this etude well, chopin was always about perfection and Matt here doesn't even cares what keys he's hitting xD

      @@EveReznor I’m sorry I’m a year late but wow, does people really have a playing style? Do we born with it? It sounds really interesting to me and if you could explain it to me it would be nice.
