So just doing a bit of playtesting and changes to B7M1 after releasing v0.1.0 of the rebalance to our Discord for public testing, and I was just having too much fun. With the new backdrop, it looks stunning and the rebalanced combat is very intense. But because it was so awesome I kept getting distracted and then I got cocky and ended up with a capital turbolaser to the face 😆 The mission still needs a bit of work, you may notice the ISD Devastator taking QUITE the beating from the Protector, when it should be the other way around. The VSD has a bit too much firepower right now, so needs a nerf. My graphics are on maximum settings, including Ray Tracing.
@@adriankoch964 I'm running a near top end system, Core i9, 4080 GPU. However this engine is still not optimized fully for modern systems, though we did massively improve it a couple years ago, its still a single threaded engine so can never fully utilize the cores on modern processors.
aside from getting blasted in the face by turbolaser fire, that was the best mission i've seen to date. the tension of the battle all over the place and i love it. though my only things is that message chat saying Zaarin's fleet arrived even though the Vader's fleet arrived first.
Angel, Your choice of a background for this battle is brilliant! The deep burgandy gas giant below, contrasted with the green-blue of the nebulae...! Captivating! I love how you set up the gas giant so that its upper atmosphere gets brighter as one pans the system's star onto the screen. Just top notch, multifaceted and all-inclusive planning on your part. I am continuously impressed by what your hard work achieves. Thank you!
Thank you! I can't take credit for the design of the gas giant itself, I only requested it from a community member (Jagged Fell III) and fellow team member (Ilios). But it was a perfect upgrade for what was already, in my opinion, a pretty good backdrop :)
Low Key, I appreciate the traitor imperials being coded as yellow. It was always weird to hear Heroic new craft alert music... and it was bad guys I needed to slaughter. This is a great QoL improvement
Man this mission somehow just keeps getting better. It was wonderfully intense and stunning in low orbit of this gas giant, pulling what in the original Tie Fighter was three full missions into a single crazy intense mission with every twist and turn making it feel yet more desperate. And now with that stunning skybox making it REALLY look like the traitors were trying to hide just above its atmosphere and were trapped, pinned against it... Desperately hanging on by your fingernails has never looked so good...
If you want to know how I made it. I made a highly detailed gas planet in Blender and then set the sun at a very low angle (7° below straight horizontal) and placed the camera right above the surface, and took an Equarectanglar image of it and a straight down image. Then ilios cropped and edited the images to not show a seam and he added the increased horizon glow too
Just watching you chase down those X-Wings gave me a newfound respect for them. They may look slow in movie scenes, but they really are a nimble craft. I think you've captured the chaos of a "real" Star Wars battle perfectly. From the constant turbolaser blasts to the frenetic silhouettes of familiar Rebel craft zipping in and out of the explosions, this feels like the most accurate interpretation of what a scene from the movies would actually look like.
Angel, you and the other modders are doing god's work by remastering such a timeless masterpiece of a game! We all highly appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that you guys are putting in this project! Even old Palpy would have been pleased with the results..."Good, goood!"
This is beautiful and incredible and I can’t wait to play it. The only thing that takes away from this pretty significantly for me is the fact that the turbolaser explosion sound is just a constant background noise. I know it’s probably been part of XWA forever but it just drowns out the speech and other more important relevant sounds, including the soundtrack, which I think is one of the best things about the games. Have you ever experimented with removing those sounds? Or cutting the volume of them by 90%. Or cutting the frequency of them. I think it would really make your excellent voice work and the rest of the play shine without that distraction. You’re the best, Angel, and as someone who remembers playing the original in the mid 90s as a kid, it’s awesome to get to relive it now. Thanks for working on this!!
@@lucas77025-v Thank you! I agree there's a lot of background sound going on and audio balancing is something I want to look at but it's a low priority thing currently.
3:30: Can't believe that didn't track well. 6:32: What, how?! Even with better shields and firepower, it still is hard to maximise efficient killcounts against the enemy capital ships. Darn, didn't end up seeing the inevitable betrayal, although it is worth noting that Zaarin hasn't done an immediate backstab.
Those poor standard TIEs at the beginning. They stood absolutely no chance against a wing of TIE Advanced. Rather like the later name for them, the TIE Avenger.
@@Daimo83 Ah I see, I thought you meant the audio. The limitation here is the explosions are contained in high res images in the DAT files (and there are several variants). Those take up almost 1GB of space. So yes I guess we could make a new one with double or triple the frames, but it will also considerably increase their DAT file size too :D
Perhaps so, but you may find many disagree with you on that one. Personally, I found Squadrons rather average and not as in-depth as these older games go. Not bad, not great. The only thing really going for it (for me) is that Squadrons is visually superior in terms of graphical fidelity and modern system support and probably more accessible to the average gamer, but overall the experience is much more 'on rails' and a more shallow experience as a result (as far as Single Player goes).. However the game was marketed more as a multiplayer experience (like X-Wing vs TIE Fighter) with a tacked on single player campaign. Modding like this is most definitely not possible in Squadrons like it is with XWA.
I Played both, Tie fighter is less constrained. Is more brainly.Also. Thanks Ugly. Unanimity is a vice and you are the one who do not allowed that to happen.
@@Padtedesco Sorry what I am being blamed for now? The fact that I find an old game like X-wing vs Tie Fighter lacklustre is just my opinion. Am I allowed to have one?

I disagree. The heroic music applied to traitor new craft always had it's charm - it created a kind of an element of confusion on an emotional level.

Very nice.
Just have to say I love the Advanced redesign. While I miss the classic Vader fighter look, the more dagger-like wings just make it look more lethal.
