    I have an 07 Lucerne and people tell me it’s an “old mans car” haha. That may be so, but I’m young and love my couch on wheels. It’s been reliable too. 320,000 km on original engine and tranny yet she’s still running strong!

    The Buick Lucerne (Super) was one of the last great American cars equipped with a modern V8 engine. Not the best gas mileage, yet far better than models which preceded it. Until I purchased the 2010 Lucerne Super, the last V8 I had got 15 mpg on highway, assuming driving at 55 mph with cruise on. Very few drives at that speed anymore, 65 mph signs (even work zones!) means 75 mph for many & some will still pass so fast it feels like we're going backwards.🤣
    Love the ride of this car, missed a deal on a year newer (2011) V6 model, with audio system style of the 90's, maybe it was for the best. Time will tell.
    Only the Lucerne Super had all of these amenities, although priced high when new. Built in same factory as Cadillac DTS equipped basically the same, although the Buick always played second fiddle by then. I believe had GM pushed the Lucerne more (& lowered price), would had sold for a few more years. There was room for both to co-exist, as the target market for each were different. The Cadillac DTS was marketed towards those with successful careers & retired ones afterwards living on more income than Social Security. On the other hand, the Lucerne Super was more for the rising (or up & on the move) ones, those earning $45-50K at the time & by payoff would (hopefully) be looking at the Cadillac.
    The demise of the Lucerne had nothing (zero!) to do with it's (more than decent) quality, rather price. By 2010-11, the Super was in the upper $40K range, entering entry level Lexus/Mercedes territory. No more needs to be said in this regard. 2011 would be the year this fine auto was last produced (or sold) and with it, the last great Buick quietly went away. Note that it more than survived the 2005 gas price hikes, rather was on the move, the 2008 financial crises caused sales to dip fast (actually this would apply to many vehicles). Why GM didn't throw in the towel sooner, hoping for the comeback that never arrived. In 2019 it's successor, the LaCrosse (mid-sized, not full as the Lucerne) also exited the North American market. Leaving us with smaller, cramped 4 cylinder models with V6 upgrades & lots of issues, especially with the Regal, even at low mileage.
    It's my hope Buick, an American legend, will once again come alive with an equally great car!💖

    While my dad didnt have this super trim, he had 2 CXL's and it was a great car. Nicely equipped, reliable, well built, great on gas, comfortable, it was just an all around great car. My dad boss had a Super though, really cool car. This is honestly GMs extremely late response to the ford taurus SHO

    • @Shintsu2
      @Shintsu2 8 років тому

      +Frank Magana Late response to the SHO? The Grand Prix GTP existed back in the '90s and was the then current and superior response to the SHO. Starting in '97 the GTP had the 240 HP supercharged Series II 3800 and trounced the V8 SHO which was plagued with all the typical Ford reliability issues they had in those terrible old Tauruses. When GM made the Lucerne Super, Ford was making the It's-Not-Just-A-Rebadged-Five-Hundred Taurus and none of those were even slightly performance oriented.

    • @Shintsu2
      @Shintsu2 8 років тому

      Those old V8 bubble SHO's were awful. I don't think I ever saw one that was in great condition cosmetically or mechanically. The older Yamaha V6 based ones seemed more solid, but I never had great luck with anything Ford and certainly not from the '90s. I do distinctly remember the transmission having a plastic piece in it though that always broke. On top of that, those bubble Tauruses really were awful looking. I'm glad I don't ever see them anymore...

    These are such nice cars. So comfortable to drive, good pick up and they look so well-mannered and polite (personification) I like the new Buicks: Regal, LaCrosse et al, but I wish they kept or re-vamped the Lucerne though.

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 10 років тому

      Lewis O No, everyone wants good cars now. This was not a good car. This was a technologically backward, inefficient, low quality boat on 4 wheels.
      I mean look at that interior...it looks like someone designed it in 5 minutes during a coffee break, it uses horribly low quality materials, it just looks cheap, nasty and disposable. Mechanically this car is no match for a equivalent BMW from the early 90's. And all that shiny chrome on the exterior doesn't change the fact that it's a bad car.
      Poorly designed, engineered and put together. The only good thing about it was its very low price and a big engine.

    • @casmatori
      @casmatori 10 років тому

      derbigpr500 This IS a good car. Great engine, interior, nice looking and there's nothing "inefficient" about it. I'd buy this over any 2008 Mercedes or BMW any day. At least with a Buick, you'd know it would still work in 20 years. With a BMW or Mercedes it would have either rotted away or something else would have went wrong like the transmission would need replacing. I've learned that, never buy German unless you wanna be "Fockered" with.

    • @casmatori
      @casmatori 10 років тому

      The only new Mercedes-Benz I'd even consider would be the AMGs. The ML and GL would probably be the ones I'd go for to tell you the truth :D But sadly, hubby won't allow it...
      But I can't complain though, we just got a new Infiniti QX-80 and that's wam bam thank you ma'am amazing. I hadn't even considered the new Escalade, a neighbor of mine has a 2012 and she gets along with it okay. Although she got bumped into during the ice storm we had here and tore the rear fender up a little.

    @Saabkyle04 My grandfather currently has one of these cars (a 2011 Lucerne CXL with the V6). They ride nice and the V6 has adequate power, but my only complaint is that the pillars on either side of the car (in the front) are a little too large and can make for frequent blind spots. Other than that, this car floats down the road, and seems to do even better on the highway. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I once heard that the Lucerne also came with the Corvette's ride leveling system, too. If true, that's a pretty cool feature for a large Buick!

      No the Lucerne was a bit smaller than the LaCrosse and it was a bit cheaper as well. The Regal replaced the Lucerne in 2011, and then the LaCrosse was redesigned in 2010.

    • @12345656370
      @12345656370 10 років тому +4

      fanowner12 Absolutely not. The Lucerne did replace the park Avenue. The first generation Lacrosse was much smaller. similar to the Regal. The Lucerne was dropped, the Lacrosse got bigger, and the regal was reintroduced. The Lucerne was offered with a v8. It was not a mid size car. Listen to the video at 4:50 to 5:10.

    • @autonathan
      @autonathan 10 років тому +3

      fanowner12 The Lucerne replaced the Park Avenue as the flagship sedan in Buick's lineup. I believe your confusion lies in the fact that the LaCrosse is currently Buick's flagship since they discontinued the Lucerne in the 2011 model year.

    Too bad it doesn’t have the indestructible 3.8 v6. Also the emblem in the steering wheel is not centered, that would bug the heck out of me, it is symbolic of the lack of quality from GM after 2006. Nice video from you per the usual. You always do an amazing and thorough job. You’re like a car encyclopedia.

      stroock6394 How so???

    • @stroock6394
      @stroock6394 7 років тому +5

      despite 10 years of progress between the two, the LS has: more power and torque from a smaller, more fuel efficient, more reliable engine, better performance numbers, RWD not FWD, a better drag coefficient, more gears (5 vs 4), a bigger fuel tank despite the car having smaller dimensions, and this is of course a subjective matter but i think the LS is much better looking

    • @hakeemsd70m
      @hakeemsd70m 7 років тому

      stroock6394 Nothing wrong with FWD V8s in a luxury car. GM has been doing it since the 1966 Olds Tornado which was FWD V8 with a 3spd trans.

      I hate this car if it has the Northstar, but love it if it has the 3800! I bought a 3800 Lucerne 2 days ago and love it, but I agree. The LS 400 is better in every way. This is just way cheaper and you still get crazy comfort.

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 10 років тому

      You do. It's called Dacia. It's the daddy for this Buick in terms of quality.

    • @alexfoley7023
      @alexfoley7023 10 років тому

      Unfortunately no one really buys any Dacia cars here in Britain. They are unreliable, cheap, flimsy, underpowered and unrefined if you go above 40mph in them. This is why we stick to our Audis, BMWs, Mercedes', Vauxhalls, Renaults and Peugeots.

    • @SirBioSnake
      @SirBioSnake 10 років тому

      Alex Foley Dacia actually sells a huge amount of cars in the UK it already outsells the likes of Chevrolet and Alfa Romeo and in the last quarter of 2013 it outsold Volvo. It even has 1.5% of the market which is very impressive for its first year. Also you call them unreliable and then say people stick to Renaults which is where pretty much all of their running gear is taken from and Mercedes Benz also buys 1.5 diesels from Renault so a Dacia Duster diesel has the same engine (admittedly tuned slightly differently) as lower spec A-class and CLA Mercs.

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 10 років тому

      SirBioSnake
      When you buy a Dacia you basically buy a one generation older Renault. New Dacia Sandero is like a Clio III for example. Which is not a bad thing at all, since you're getting something that was tested already and proved to be good. And yes, you're right about the diesels. When you buy a Mercedes A class, you get the exact same engine and gearbox that's in a Renault. Which is again a proof of the quality. Mercedes would never put a Renault engine in their cars if they didn't think it was good enough, and they obviously thought it was so good that there's no point in developing their own engine, but rather use the Renault engine.
