- Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! UA-cam's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we will take an up close and personal in depth look at the first generation 1963 Buick Riviera. GM's first "personal luxury car". Designed for those looking for luxury and style with a thirst for performance. With dramatic styling for 1963 and arguably one of the nicest looking interior's from the 60s, the Riviera was definitely ahead of it's time. Design cues can even be seen with the last generation (8th gen) riviera from 1995-1999. Potent 401 cu/in (6.6) and automatic transmission, a timeless classic! During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW: In this channel you will find in depth reviews/tour of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. Basically, this gives the viewer the chance to view the most detailed 1st person look you can get without going to an actual dealer yourself! Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect in my presentations. I treat every vehicle with the same respect whether a 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS or the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. I film all types of vehicles from past, present, and future while broadening the knowledge of the automotive enthusiast. You will see everything from vintage, brand new, exotic, mainstream, old, etc. I am very proud of this channel and have built it up from amateur videos years ago to what you see today. I wanted to share my love for the automotive world with the rest of the world. Be sure to explore the massive video variety, have fun and enjoy The Driver's Seat of UA-cam!

I fell in love with the Rivera when I was like 13 and I'm 63 now. I think they were the prettiest car ever made.
i agree. youve got a few years on me. but this car...wow...
Kyle, Power Steering and brakes were standard equipment on all first gen Riviera's. The 63 only came with the Dynaflow Transmission. There was no 3 speed auto option in 63. The 64 used the new to GM ST400 transmission. And, in 1965 that same transmission offered the unique "Switch Pitch" feature.
Correct about the transmission.
. He also said A/C was standard but it was optional at extra cost in those days. Even in Cadillac.
Why dont auto makers make interiors like that anymore. journalists say audi and mercedes have high quality interiors but this is just on another level
You ask why?
The question is very complex and requires detail. It is not because automakers just decided to use cheap plastic that made them do it.
The American car market was opened up to cheap German, Japanese and Korean cars and in turn were give special tax trade agreements that enabled them to sell cars in America far cheaper than American cars.
And then on top of that government regulations then forced manufacturers in America to produce products with very very strict conditions and would punish those that did not conform while at the same time cheap imported cars did not have to meet have of those regulations making them able to produce cars far cheaper again.
Auto makers today would be punished by environment regulations if most of their cars used leather interiors because they would argue having to many cows is bad for the environment.
Mercedes interiors are definitely bad, audi, average
Yes, the cars from the 60s and 50s were like steel rolling sculptures. You could tell the make & model from a 1/4 mile away. What a contrast to today's "modern" generic blob beans and trucksters.
Great video - '63-'65 Riviera was the best of the breed and one of the greatest vehicles GM ever produced. I love the lines of this car, the rough rumble of the Nailhead V8 and the jet-age styling cues. For a long time, GM was incapable of putting together a decent interior, but in the early 60s that was not the case at all. The inside of this car is just as gorgeous as the outside, maybe even moreso...
This was Buick's best style moment ever. Still knocks my socks off.
I owned a ‘63 . It was my wedding car. It was beautiful and so was she. It had 6 ash trays and 6 lighters! I’ve had at least 30 cars since, but this gem will always be my favorite.
When i become successful in life and make enough money, my dream is to buy an old school buick rivera, this car looks so awesome, Buick was at the top back in the days, true 1960s luxury
I always have liked The Buick Riviera- the years 1963 -1965
In Germany there's a television series (it plays in 1968) where one of the characters is driving such a Buick Riviera. Such a great car, thanks for uploading!
These really are gorgeous cars. Everytime I think of what 60s Buick I want, I always seem to lean towards Wildcat convertibles but the first gen Rivieras really are about as perfect as you can get.
my absolute favorite car....the best design GM has ever made.... thanxs bill mitchell
Had one for a few years from 1977 to 1980 wish I still had it.
1963/1964 Buick Riviera is my favorite classic car.
These were beautiful cars designed by Bill Mitchell who was also a Corvette designer. The headlamp bezels were chromed metal on these and weighed about 10 lbs., the HVAC vents were also chromed metal and as you saw real wood was also used. Today you would have to buy a Rolls Royce or a Bentley to get such quality touches.
The story goes that Bill Mitchell was impressed by a Rolls-Royce he saw in London and thought if he could combine the looks of a 'Roller' with the style of a Ferrari he'd be on to a winner. He was spot on!
And the seats! Personal 'bucket' couches at every corner, compared to rolling church pews in more recent cars.
My son has one, and I love to go with him because everyone is watching us, stop us to ask about the car, we are a show on wheels. A neighbor retired and sold everything, but he wanted someone to appreciate the car and sold it to 4 t. because my son liked the car a lot. One day a man stopped us in a beautiful Ferrari and told him that if he sold because he would like because it was the first car to drive. Same year 1963
This beauty is now 60 years old, wow!
I have found my dream car
Wow - this has got to be one of my favorite car interiors of all time. Dat shifter...
WOW. That interior is absolutely gorgeous.
I love these vintage cars and I can't think of a better resource of reviews about them than Kyle's channel...The variety is extra-ordinary and I can't think of anybody else doing such an amazing job of delivering informative videos about cars...And I do reviews myself. Roadtests but still.
Keep up the great video-work, Kyle ! Greetings from germany
Dang, the speed of those power windows is impressive.
i love that car so much! the 1080p makes it so enjoyable to watch, thanks kyle!
Old cars is exactly what keeps me subscribed to saabkyle04.
Very unique looking car's love them and this one is Amazing inside and outside!
Oh my!!! Such a beauty!! Understated, sensational angles, no ridiculous tailfins. This now takes the mantle as my favorite 60's American luxury coupe ( It used to be the 67 Olds Toronado ).
gorgeous car, my mom used to own a 1999 Riviera...and I've been a fan of the series ever since
so much classic style, thanks for uploading.
What a beautiful vehicle! Great vid as always Kyle!
VERY impressive vehicle for 1963. Sometimes I think it's Buick, and not Cadillac, that is really the crown jewel of the GM lineup.
Kyle, great video, a timeless beauty. Now that was a Buick! I remember these cars when I was a kid.. Makes me long for the good old days.
Wow, such a nice car. Much better than most cars from 1963. The interior is just gorgeous, and the sound of that V8 is just amazing.. Beautiful car, you're very lucky to be able to sit in it. Look at the radio! Wow, I'm in love
Kyle... Great video!, you always do a super job of explaining the details of the cars etc. Excellant work!
Beautiful old Rivi! I can't wait to see yours now, and that Pontiac GTO!! Streetside Classics has some beautiful cars I'm really glad you're filming there now!
The 1963 Buick Riviera was so futuristic looking, that it was used in a 1964 "Outer Limits" t.v. show,
that was supposed to take place in 1990! A timeless classic, that still 'turns heads' today!
Thanks for the video! I've been waiting for a review of this car. the '63 Riviera is my dream car, and is in my opinion the greatest American car ever built. This one is in very impressive condition. They just don't build them like that anymore; you'd never see half of those features on modern-day cars or competitors from the 60's.
What a beauty.
Nice and detailed video. Congrats, Kyle.
He can review and post what ever cars, trucks, and what ever else he likes.
If ya don't like it then don't want it... simple as that!.
Keep up the great work Kyle...
OMG! This Riviera is sooo beautiful man! I like this one. I'm a big fan of Buick Rivieras! :)
Great video Kyle, gotta love the classics!
Gorgeous car, '64 was my alltime favorite.
I think this is one of the best looking cars ever built.
Just noticed the dent in the passenger side front fender. Glad nobody has tried to "fix" it. This vehicle is a virtual time machine and should be left well enough alone. Great review Kyle!!
Oh my god. One of my dream cars shows up on the front page of UA-cam. Yeah, I'm not getting any work done for a while.
learn to appreciate more than just what the mainstream considers "beautiful", you philistine.
Kyle, great vid, and good music choice for the car! seems to fit somehow.
This car is a work of art
Buick, Buick, Buick...Where did the Glory Days go?
To heaven because buick lost all of its creativity and started to rebadge crappy opels and make crappy crossovers
please Kyle, we want more old cars :) i totally like the way when you explain the specifications and etc. i wan't to know more about car history, and you seem to enjoy it. that's the best p
A/C was not standard but was an ad on option from the factory the passenger side door does also have a rear handle the car reviewed must have had it's broken off...
Proud caretaker of my great grandfather's 63 buick Riviera
I would definitely drive this old school ride. This vehicle is better than some cars on the road today.
These older cars are classics. The quality is awesome.
OMG! This Centurys is sooo beautiful man! I like this one. I'm a big fan of Buick Centurys ! :)
You kinda over did this one mate, but I am very very very thankful for all your videos! :) You should be proud of yourself mate....
Great review as usual. Classic car. Even more classic are the 1971-73 boattail Rivieras. See if you can get your hands on one for another great review !
Thanks for the nice over view of a great car, I remember a friend of mine back in High School had one of these, in Black, gorgeous. Last time I saw it run we were having a little road race and when we hit the final 2 mile straight section he blew by me when I was maxed out at a 118 mph in my 68 Dodge Monaco like I was standing still, to watch him disappear in a cloud of blue smoke when he blew the engine a half mile out in front of me, those were the days. :^)
I am really liking that dashboard very stylish...
The song you turned on was great!
my dad had a 1965 riviera grand sport, this brought back a lot of memories, if you come across one , it will be aweson if you could do a review, i know the engine and interior have a lots of diferences
The horns were amazing!
You’re right!
amazing vehicle
Beautiful car and they are getting harder to find. Great review!
I believe it is because subscriber's videos show up based on the date they are uploaded, and when you upload them early and then wait a few days to list them, they show up but they're ranked near the bottom of the list of new subscribers' videos because of the date.
The small holes in the rear bumper I believe are for the bumper jack if I remember correctly. My 63 Rivera I owned in 1972 had the brown leather seats both front and rear, power everything including power wind wings.
Wow, amazing car!
My dad has one of them I love it there ware to see and there fast
always love the the buick riiera they had class and style.old school....
Sweet, well equipped.
What a beautiful machine
I liked the one's with the hide away headlights better. I remember when these cars were brand new., I didn't drive yet, but remember them well.
Beautiful car! Last year for the Dynaflow transmission!
I deffinitly have driven around when he's not home lol. I love that car!
He owns two local dealerships here in B.C. (Canada)
Landmark Auto
A friend of mine has an almost identical Riviera. It's the same exterior colour but the interior is also green.
The dual door handle was on the deluxe interior models only.
Amazing interior!
Very cool and Amazing.
can u please do a reveiw of a 1972 riviera boat tail?
happy 50th anniversary to this beautiful car
I do like the interior of the car so much.
I had a 63 and the interior was very well done, but my favorite was the 1965 which in my opinion was a much better car in many ways.
My great grandfather bought a 63 riviera brand new back in 1963 and could be this cars twin although this one is in a bit nicer shape but even since he passed in 98 we still have it and it's going to be mine one day
Reminds of of the 'Andec' in Driver Parallel Line.
Interesting car, great overview.
That is a beautiful car
..."old ugly american car"
This old car is still better than anything France makes today. Mechanically and cosmetically.
you are aware Bugatti is French?
Im 17 and my Dad has one. It's silver with blue interior. Unfortunately he's giving it to my little brother, but he gave me a 76 Cadillac Eldorado like in your other video! Love watching your vids! Do a 71 Riv!!!
Beautiful car ! ...
Beautiful Buick :)
Beautiful Car...
It's funny how old power windows are so ridiculously fast
I own and drive a totally decked out '63 Riv !!!! (on my xbox360 Midnight Club L.A. !)
But seriously ... I DO have a '99 Riv which is highly admired like this one !!!!
Beautiful car.
I am not a huge nerd when it comes to cars, but I found out about this one, because Leonard Nimoy had several Buicks, I guess. Great taste 😍
I would see this car parked never moved before. And when I looked at the license plate it says it expired in like 1964 :( this makes me sad because I want that car but I don't know who owns it. That car is still there to this day.
Very cool venicle
It doesn't have an temperature gauge, only two indicator lamp (lo/hi temp) is present?
Kyle, you should buy one of theses, and another 95 model
Seeing all those classic cars in the garage at this dealer reminds me of the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI. Even though those cars are for sale with this being a dealer, it might as well also be a museum! There are some interesting cars there that you don't see every day, and I can't believe how quick that window rolled down on this one! And I don't mean to nitpick, but do you know what the squeaking noise is about coming from the engine?
for its age this has got to be one of the best looking cars ive seen, besides the vintage auction cars. most older cars are rusted and the carpet/seats may be ripped ect. but this one seems to be in pretty good shape
How does the indicators work ?
I was 10 years old when this Buick was built. If you look at the door @00:56 you will notice two door handles. One for the driver and one at the rear for the passenger in the back seat. It's details like this that you don't see anymore. I know I'm an old fart but I prefer the style of years ago to the "bubble" cars of today.
