Ron Tyson, so handsome and was perfect replacement for the great Eddie Kendricks, but Melvin Franklin in the background gives me chills his voice is so amazing.
Like kiddies in a school yard....."so and so was better than so and so ." Things and life changes, so you carry on. Temps have always been and still are the greatest. You can't be one if you can't sing.
Legendary quintet micro-managed - and rightly so - by its surviving original member, Otis Williams, seen herein on the Arsenio Hall Show in '92 when the lineup was Melvin 'Blue' Franklin, bass, Otis Williams, baritone, Ali-Ollie Woodson, tenor-falsetto lead voice, Richard Street, tenor, and Ron Tyson, falsetto lead vocals. Today only Otis and Ron are still around from this lineup and still singing together. Blue Franklin was 52 when he died in 1995 from congestive heart failure complicated by diabetes, Ali-Ollie Woodson was 59 when he died from leukemia in 2010, and Richard Street dead at 70 in 2013 from pulmonary embolism. Such tragedy for such multi-talented performers. I saw the Temptations live from the very beginnings of their career when they were billed near the bottom of the weekly lineup at the Apollo Theater in the very early 1960's when Al Bryant was lead vocalist before David Ruffin came in 2 years later.
So very true, Paul I thought never got the credit that he deserved. And Melvin had a voice that most likely we will never hear again. And they could still dance so good! May they all R. I. P.. Thanks for the video.
@@sarahgillespie7783 youre right. Paul never got the credit he deserved. He came up with the name..taught them the dance moves..and was the lead singer in the beginning. He pretty much the founder of the group. All the credit always goes to Otis Williams and he was just a background singer..he didn't have a distinctive voice that set him apart from the rest. Melvin, Eddie, Paul and David all had their own style. Bass..Falsetto, Baritone..Otis was just..there in the background. He got wayyy too much credit. The other 4 should get the credit. Especially Paul for pretty much getting them a deal with motown.
(The Temps Turned It Out) What A Great Iconic Performance. (Rip. Melvin, Richard, & Ollie) "Job Well Done. And A Special Shout Out To "Otis" & "Ron", Still Putting On Great Shows Now With Newest Members "Terry" & "Willie". (I Just Saw Their Show Here In Vegas A Month Ago). It Was Awesome Still. "Congrats My Brothers". (Catch Their Show In Your Town If You Can).
I can’t believe I only saw them a year ago with the four Tops and it was brilliant. I know most of the guys the originals were not there, but the guys who were there had been there for years and years. They were with the four Tops, and it was the best best concert in my life. I’m 67 years old and I grew up with them and I will treasure that concert and love everyone of them and nothing else will ever compare. I feel honored that I was able to see them close up after listening to them for years and years and years. Thank you so much. There will never be groups like them ever again. God bless Motown and every group that ever came from them.
Arsenio and Boys II Men were helping the Tempts to celebrate their anniversary that year.... for so many years in the business.....The professionalism, the precision, the excitement they gave each show, the tight harmonies, the showmanship, the crowd interaction and connection, the outfits.. standards the Tempts set and others followed and adapted to themselves... unlike today.. none of that exists in any of today's artists..
I gotta say, I think that was my favorite line up since the classic 5. WHAT a great combo of voices and talent! I hope you're looking down and smiling on all of this, Melvin, cuz you never gave anything short of all you could right up until the end.

As usual, a great performance. But they are missing the whole late 60s/early 70s psychedelic era led by Dennis Edwards with production/writing by Norman Whitfield. RIP Dennis & Norman.
What up with all this naysaying shit, this is the 3rd best Temptation line-up and that's saying a lot. This quintet produced some really quality music along with being as classy as could be imagined.I have nothing but love, respect, and admiration for this line-up, they carried the banner well.
He was phenomenal! It's sad that he had battled some demons, and I think it made his health deteriorate. I used to see he and Charlie Wilson in L.A., during a very rough period for both of them. RIP.
my father never battled from demons.. he was just simply ill for years and couldn’t fight off the cancer anymore... always appreciate the support and love from his fans though, so thank you!
Give us a break. Anytime Richard sang any song it was a stellar performance. Ali Woodson was just a cheap replacement for Dennis Edwards. Dennis Edwards believed in sharing the stage with his fellow performers which he viewed as family not stealing every song he could get but the song stealing had to be approved by Otis.
@@porshaalexander3517 how dare you describe him as a “cheap replacement” the temps didn’t have a hit for YEARS until my dad ALI WOODSON came along and took them to the #1 CHARTS with TREAT HER LIKE A LADY AND MANY OTHERS.. it’s okay to prefer a singer for another, but to call someone a “cheap replacement” is just plain rude & disrespectful and I will ALWAYS stand up for my father’s greatness and how he revolved the temptations... much love to you though
@@aliahwoodson Your dad was probably the best lead singer the Temptations ever had. He could match the style of all of the Temptations hits to a T. No matter if it was a David Ruffin or Dennis Edwards lead song. He could have probably even killed Eddie Kendrick’s lead songs. But he was definitely a major part of the Temptations, being that sang there last major hit.

Richard took over singing my girl when Paul williams left he was singing lead on that song for a long time before Ali Ollie Woodson joined. Even though Richard street is a good singer I think Ollie voice sounds better with David Ruffin songs

@Cordell Tothesecondpower, I'm sure I've seen at least 30% of the Temptation's state-side performances during the 60's -80's as they are my generation, and I've gotta Agree with you!! Woodson did David much better then David! LOL That man could not only SANG but he could also dance his A-- Off!! To me Woodson, Paul Williams, and Kendricks were the Best Ever lead vocalists, and No-bo-dy could even touch Otis in Bass range! :-)
Cordell tothesecondpower needs to say no to drugs. To say Ollie was better than david is like saying fake cheese is better than real cheese. David Ruffin is a legend, PERIOD.... The same cannot be said about Ollie Woodson. He is the 4th best lead singer they ever had. 1.David, 2.Eddie, 3.Dennis, and then Ollie.
David, Melvin, Otis, Paul,Eddie were the magic 5. The voices complimented each other. All the temptations that followed were great! But the magic was not there
It was because Paul Williams had sing lead on My Girl after David Ruffin had left and after Paul had left, Richard Street had took over leading the song for a long time until his departure, which passed on to Ollie Woodson singing the song later on.
I agree with you there. I will say that Ali is my favorite of the lead singers. He did an amazing job singing those classic, but Dave as you said was the man!!
@@stevendajuan4915 I agree with Ali having a great range, but did you listen the range David had. He could get up to Eddie's range on some songs. Davis was the best, then came Ali and Dennis in that order. But anyone who knows about group singing would know that without a good middleman your leads can't do all that the temps do. And that middleman was Otis. That's what make the Temptations' sound. Checkout Boyz to Men trying to do the temptations' sound. It falls short.
