At this stage guys it is an inspection of big end bearings and conrods for excess movement, but to get to access them the gearbox must but pulled out is access to stupid bolts on second sump guard. Working on it.
Did you have wobble on the crankshaft pulley? I have the same on my mk7 2.4 tdi. Had a horrid high pitch squeal which new serpentine belt and idler pulley cured. Squeal was masking the tapping sound. Mine goes quiet once the engine has warmed up. Most research online says it's deffinatley the timing chain warn and slapping. But I'm worried that I have quite alot of wobble on the crankshaft pulley. Could that just be a coincidence that the pulley is worn and needs replacing too?
Pray I never ever hear that noise in my car. That is the sound of 'serious money being thrown into the pit of sorrow'. Whether you fix it it, or throw it, you're going to lose serious money.

Take top engine cover and check if anything is worn out or loose. Sounds like camshaft or burned out valve.
ben barrett yeah lol I just revved it on limiter for few minutes it cleans all jets out and black smoke and everything and mine was making this noise when first got it did that and it hasn't done it again I do it once a week to clean all black smoke and everything out

Yes tested injectors and they are fine, so looking downstair now.

Blocked no. one injector mate but by the time I got to it the rust in the roof killed it.

This has the Durashift Automatic gearbox so it is controlled by electronics

Just rev it on limiter for 2 minutes not constant but on n off the limiter and it will sort its self out lmao mine did

I heard a 56 plate Transit that sounded much worse. I've not seen it for ages now as it's probably been scrapped
