  • Get better at Radio Communication now! This video explains basic VFR radio communications and how to talk on the radio as a Private Pilot. Basic aviation radio communications is one of the hardest parts of getting your private pilots license, but I walk you through the basic building blocks of making good radio communications. I explain what you need to include in your radio calls to make good read backs as well as how to contact the different ATC agencies. I discuss communicating with clearance delivery, ground control, tower, approach, departure, and center controllers. These basic radio calls are vital to your success if you want to become a private Pilot. Don’t watch ATC live audio videos, watch this instead! For more details, check out section 4 of the AIM! Very well done; if I may: at 8:21 never say ¨Ready for takeoff¨, but ¨Ready for DEPARTURE¨. ¨Takeoff¨ is only used when cleared by ATC, or by you when you are cleared by ATC.

Hi, This is by far the best video training on ATC comms that I have seen so far. I have the link saved so I can watch and rewatch long enough to make it 2nd nature. ATC communications is the most difficult. It is not rocket science, but, you want to do it right and look ( be heard) like a profesional. Thank you so much for the time dedicated to produce it. It helps A LOT!!, specially now for me that I am starting planning and navigation to controlled airports here in Texas. Thank you indeed.

By far a video on practicing radio calls is very important. Anytime you have to speak and others are listening to your response it is very intimidating!!! I am a PIT and I hear radio calls when I am out and hope I don't make the same mistake I hear others do. Prior to 9/11, student pilots could still visit Kansas City Center and listen in on the line. It made them more human. I don't know if they've opened that up again. The ATC training simulations were fun to watch as instructors threw in scenarios including spacing for Air Force One.
